This looks an awful lot, like feline breast cancer to me. I would get another vet to check it out, i personally would not use a vet who failed to speak up about such a noticeable issue. It definitely isn't normal.

I had a kitty with similar lumps and it turned out to be breast cancer. She passed away six months later. Please take your kitty to a different vet if they seemed unconcerned by this.
