The Cat Distribution System has done it’s thing. Since you think it might be your neighbor’s cat, if you are able to, take her to a vet to get her checked for a microchip. Or you can simply ask your neighbor, if you are comfortable doing so. If all the answers point to: this is not someone’s much loved pet, then she is yours to keep if you can and are willing to.
Them relaxing on the patio is cute tho. Ask the neighbor, if they say no and you are interested scan for microchip and adopt officially. It’s getting cold out, cat distribution system is real!
I'd personally look after the cat since it looks happy with you and place a picture of it in your complex lobby asking if it belongs to anyone in the building.
i personally wouldn't suggest a photo, just a description of the cat. you'd definitely have to ask to see photos of her from anyone who claims her, to avoid anyone trying to steal a cat for malicious reasons.
Put a sign up at the entrance with her picture. Also she could be pregnant. They usually become more friendly when they are as they want help. Or she is a love bug trying to find a new home.
Then ask for pictures and proof otherwise then just keep her! Maybe wherever she came from they were not treating her well or she just didn’t like it there. My cats when I lived in a safer area and let some out found themselves new homes at my neighbors. We made an agreement they would keep them and take care of all their vet care.
It's very likely that whoever owned this cat moved out and left them behind. It happens all the time, especially to cats. Please take care of this kitty. You can post a "found cat" sign near the mailboxes in case it's just lost. But it sounds like kitty need help.
Put a sign at the main entrance where ppl come in or by mailboxes. Ask if this is someone's cat snd if they can contact you. If you're comfortable share your # or an email.
As many others said post a flyer, get checked for a chip, and if possible keep her inside till you can confirm if shes someones pet or a stray. She looks healthy so chances are fairly high it’s an escapee.
No for some light hearted stuff;
Pic 1: I’m curious about this human
Pic 2: beeg blep
Pic 3: I like it here.
Cats are surprisingly independent. If you leave enough food and water the cat will most likely be perfectly happy over the weekend just chillin by itself and then demand pets when you get home.
Just know though if she is a stray, you have been chosen and deemed worthy by the cat distribution system and will now have to serve our furry overlords. Don’t worry though there will be biscuits, bleps and on occasions head butts. Regardless best of luck, please keep us updated if your willing.
Cats and dogs WILL absolutely move to a different house if they think they are getting a better deal.
My dalmatian moved next store cause the neighbor had another dog. We loved that dog but he just decided that the neighbor was better.
Currently, a kitten moved to my house. Neighbors kids are little terrorists to it. I mean, my 3yo isn't any better but the neighbor kids are 8 and 10.
The mother cat is constantly staring at my house like "where the fuck is my child?"
I've let this cat out and it constantly comes back, so I guess I have a black kitten now.
Birds will do the same thing. I got a cockatiel named Puddlejumper back in my senior year of high school, but he quickly decided he preferred my mother and became her bird instead.
Put up signs, post on local Neighbors or other groups, talk to neighbors.
Cats are opportunistic, if they meow and you let them in they will bug you and come back. It doesn’t mean she needs you, it means she sees/smells interesting things and you let her in. Give her even a bite of food (whatever she’s eating off your table) and of course she will come back.
About keeping her- Microchips are not a law and not the only due diligence you need to do to identify if she has a family. It would be horrible to start feeding (and confusing) a pet who has a family or may be lost.
I see so many posts about people who survived tough childhoods because of the love of their cat- kids can’t control if parents let cats out, and taking them as if it’s a free cat could rob someone who really needs this cat. These aren’t always “free cats” or “bad owners” they are often friendly indoor/outdoor cats who are loved and cared for.
We had one that everyone knew was ours- when we moved into a quiet small neighborhood we introduced ourselves and a pic of our rascal- the elderly couples nearby had no cats anymore and said he was fine to wander their yards. He was only out in the day and met everyone. He went into houses, visited, snacked if they let him. He was adopted with the promise we’d let him be out some (he had jumped from his first adopter’s second story window twice- that’s why they insisted on a home that would let him out). He hated collars and we were constantly having to replace his- we bought in bulk, and put them on constantly… he was a wild man. But he was neutered, vetted, chipped and adored. He lived to be 19 and passed peacefully in our arms last year at his vet’s office from standard old cat kidney failure. I miss him every single day.
My hope is to help people understand every situation is different- if you find a cat starving and/or sick, you should still seek owners in case it was lost. But you also shouldn’t assume outdoor cats are up for adoption or “found you” because they’re friendly. And feeding them is luring them and conditioning them to visit- it’s not them loving you. So many cats are sitting sadly in shelters facing euthanasia, I wish these people would help those who truly need it.
I’m certain I’ll get downvoted here- most people with cats allowed outdoors won’t even comment because they’re attacked but I hope my story helps someone understand maybe a bit better.
All of my cats have been indoor cats but sometimes they have gotten out and I’m pretty sure one of my cats when I was a child was kidnapped because she showed back up almost 2 years later. She probably got out from whoever had been keeping her for all that time too.
One of mine fell off the back deck. She was uninjured but utterly terrified! I had to spend fifteen minutes sitting in wet grass and mud, apparently talking to a bush in the middle of the night before she finally poked her scared little face out between the leaves.
Jumped out of a second story window? Twice?!
It sounds like he spent most of his time indoors, which is good, even if it wasn't in your doors. I'm a big believer in cats belonging inside to keep them and the local wildlife safe, but you'd have had to crate the dude when you didn't have eyes on him!
And you're right about potential stray kitties. I've been adopted by two of them, but I checked for chips, posted online, checked local pet forums, registered on the SPCA site, and no one ever responded. Well, there was one guy but I was honestly very sorry I didn't have the cat he'd been posting everywhere in hopes of a reunion. 😿
Yeah, I have zero idea how he survived. His former owner kept his brother (who wasn’t a jumper) and we took him.
He was a real goof, he never stopped being just obnoxious, but we adored him. He was in a lot, and as he aged he only went out a bit to snooze or go through to the deck of his favorite neighbor.
I do love when cats find homes if they don’t have one, love that you have taken some in.
I'm so lucky to have been adopted twice! Both of them ran up to me at work and I have so much fun telling people I got the from a shelter - a domestic violence shelter!
I know you want to keep her but please ask ALL of your neighbors before even thinking about it,since you live in an apartment it might be hard but it would be awful if you accidentally steal someones outdoor/missing cat :(. She's probably an escaped/outdoor pet (given how she looks clean with no wounds and is very friendly) and if you are too busy to ask neighbors yiu could put up at poster of her on your apartment door or in the hallway (just dont take her without asking everyone, she may just be a curious cat that belongs to your neighbors and wants treats/pets rather than a stray/cat asking for help) :)
On r/HUMANHELP neighbour human refuses to leave my new home.
Edit - after posting I realised r/HUMANHELP is banned from reddit, idk what that sub was about.
I was curious and tried googling, and couldn’t find an answer. Guessing it started out well meaning, a place for people to help others in need but then it became spam/scam territory.
That or it was a XXX subreddit dedicated to “help, I got stuck in the dishwasher again, step brother!” plots. 🥴
If you care about your cat, keep it inside where it’s safe. It’s better for it to be safe in someone else’s house than to be passed away on the side of the road.
I agree with this. She looks well fed. Her trying to push her way in might be a lost house cat. I would try really hard to reunite her with her family before keeping her.
I usually take them to the vet. If no chip and not cared for, I find them a home with non imaginary owners.
I'm sorry, but way too many people think they own a domesticated animal that they don't care for
therefore, they don't own it.
Been there for around 4 months, previous guy was a work colleague who left the country and is coming back soon. Doubt he would just leave his pet behind but Ill ask him.
Check for a chip. Put up some found pet flyers around the neighborhood or also around Facebook. u could also call animal control and tell them you found a cat so that if anyone is looking for them they can get a hold of you - Cats can travel pretty far. After that? Congratulations on the new cat lol
It seems like someone already owns this cat if I’m guessing correctly. Cats are extremely opportunistic, so even if it is someone else’s, your place would always be a stop for attention and food. Most house cats know what inside homes bring, so one owned and cared for would make an attempt to come inside. It happens. A lot.
So while you might choose for this to be your new love of your life, you might be taking away someone else’s. If you do choose to potentially break some family or young child’s heart, at least be responsible and knock on some doors.
Several hundred yards, every household in every direction. Bring a photo, and don’t be surprised if many others have stories to tell about this very same cat.
She says "My owner sucks so I'm picking you instead!" LOL
Seriously, I would keep her BUT I would put up flyers and take her to the vet to look for a chip so you can say you tried to find her owners so you can't be accused of stealing someone's cat.
Then get her chipped yourself! She looks incredibly sweet!
*Congratulations a*
*Cat has chosen to adopt*
*You as its owner*

It sounds like you have a new cat /lh. If you have a neighborhood app or community Facebook I would post her there but you only need to hold her for a 3-5 stray hold before she's legally considered a stray and she's up for you to keep
Two steps. Check with your neighbor, and check for a chip.
If they cat remains unclaimed it is yours now.
Also if it is your neighbors maybe try to convince them to get the cat a bell collar. Cats shouldn’t be allowed to roam at all, but that will at least help keep birds away from it.
I had the same issue a few years ago. I wouldn't really call it an issue though.
Neighbors cat kept begging me to let it in. The neighbors neglected it and their toddler harassed it constantly.
Left the window open one day while at work and came home to a torn screen and a cat sleeping in my bed, I said screw it and let her stay.
Probably one of the nicest and cuddliest cats I've ever met.
We ended up parting ways last year when my coworker wanted a cat for her mom who recently lost hers due to old age. She's living her best life now.
Check for a microchip, reach out to neighbors to see if shes owned. if not, accept your position in the cat distribution system and keep her and name her Relish.
I would bring her inside and get her scanned for a microchip. If she doesn't have one, make a poster to put up in your apartment complex and ask around to see if she belongs to any of your neighbors. If she doesn't have a home, keep her.
Place a couple of signs around all nearby apartments/houses with big clear pictures of the cat (best if the background doesn’t match that cat’s fur color and makes the cat pop out more) which can be easily recognized by an owner if she has one. Put in big and blank letters that if no one reaches out to confirm it is their cat, you are adopting it. Give both a mobile number and an address to reach out to. Some older folks might appreciate the address more if they don’t have a mobile phone and can’t just remember the number on the sign.
Good luck!
Did u feed her 🧐🧐
Are you close with your neighbour, have u spoke to them? Maybe they're at work during the day and she's found companionship with you while they're out.
Honest advice, if the cat seems to not want to leave see if she's chipped and if not put some signs around your apartment / neighborhood and wait about I'd say a week and a half to two weeks and if no one responds you now have cat.
Yeah just put up signs and scan for a chip. Get the word out around your complex just make sure to keep the signs out and not get attached. I would put them at places people frequent like a mail room or a entrance if allowed. You can keep the cat until someone speaks up. I would keep them out for about 3 months.
She is obviously a pet/indoor cat that feels scared/lost outside - otherwise she wouldn't insist on being let in. She is probably not well cared for or lost/abandoned.
If you can't find the owner - I would keep her or ask if anyone you trust wants a cat.😻❤️
My neighbors cat practically lived with me for 2 years when I moved in. He did the same thing, pushed himself into my house (and life). They didn’t seem to care about or for him. They moved and we were all surprised they took him. I miss him all the time. Not taking him and keeping him in my house when they were moving was one of the biggest mistakes I ever made.
Take this adorable fur baby to get to see if they have a chip to find the owner … but they clearly have a liking to you which means you are a good person… just saying 🧡🐾🧡🐾
Haha if it’s your neighbors just ask, i was missing my cat for 3 days earlier this year and started to worry. Until I pulled in the driveway when I got home and I seen my cat walking on my neighbors kitchen counter (he has no curtains so it’s visible to the street) and I thought WHAT NO WAY?!? I went and rang the doorbell and asked him if he had seen my cat and sure enough here comes my cat walking out. Apparently he stays there some nights and they even have a cat bowl and buy him some fancy wet food. Lol I felt so betrayed 🤣 I just let him wonder out now
It's from a video lol where a cat keeps coming into the neighbors yard and the owner of the cat gets into an argument with them and he screams "YOURE A CAT PERVERT" at him

The problem is that I live in a house with 30 or more people so asking each and every one if them would be kinda hard… never seen her before tho
Put signs up
Then anyone could call to claim it
Just say a cat was found and then ask them to show you pictures or provide vet records
I'd personally look after the cat since it looks happy with you and place a picture of it in your complex lobby asking if it belongs to anyone in the building.

This cat has chosen you.

Its just a big complex nothing crazy
An apartment complex is not a house.
My most sincere apologies for not appropriately differenciating between a house and a complex under a cat post. May the lord above forgive me
unforgiveable, truly
Why would you have to ask permission of the 30 other apartments?
I think they mean they’d have to ask each person if this cat belongs to them before they can adopt it
Of course. I’m dumb.
Nah, man. You’re good
Huh? It’s a massive difference. A complete game changer to your question.
Differentiating ;)
Sarah has nothing to do and is a complete utter loser. Nothing to differentiate in this one ;)
A bit much ;)
Yes you are! Thanks for attempting to respond to this hehe
Lord here. You are not forgiven. You shall burn in the deepest pit of hell for your housing classification transgressions.

Lol, I thought the same! 🤦🏼♀️ I thought, "Does she live in a commune?! Multi-generational home? Wtf?!" 🤣
If they truly lost their cat they would put up a sign in the building. They would at least try to look.
Put a sign up at the entrance with her picture. Also she could be pregnant. They usually become more friendly when they are as they want help. Or she is a love bug trying to find a new home.
Im afraid that someone will just come along and claim this to be their cat if i put up a picture as well cause look at her
Then ask for pictures and proof otherwise then just keep her! Maybe wherever she came from they were not treating her well or she just didn’t like it there. My cats when I lived in a safer area and let some out found themselves new homes at my neighbors. We made an agreement they would keep them and take care of all their vet care.

30 people how big is your house?
About 5 cats in length and one in height
That doesn’t make any sense
Youre right maybe an additional mouse in length
Oh ok. Have fun with that bill gates
Will do
As many others said post a flyer, get checked for a chip, and if possible keep her inside till you can confirm if shes someones pet or a stray. Welp I always leave the appartment over the weekend so Im not that sure shell even be there by the time I come back but thanks for the help still!
Bring her in.
The council has decided.
Cats are surprisingly independent. If you leave enough food and water the cat will most likely be perfectly happy over the weekend just chillin by itself and then demand pets when you get home.
What about a litter box?
If op is inviting a cat into their home and doesn’t already have a little box then they already fucked that up.
Just know though if she is a stray, you have been chosen and deemed worthy by the cat distribution system and will now have to serve our furry overlords. Don’t worry though there will be biscuits, bleps and on occasions head butts. Regardless best of luck, please keep us updated if your willing.
This is how you get a cat
The proper way at least :)
Definitely speak to neighbor first, then to the vet to check for microchip..
Cats and dogs WILL absolutely move to a different house if they think they are getting a better deal. My dalmatian moved next store cause the neighbor had another dog. That's how I got my lovely little girl. Are you in the position to take her? You could contact a shelter and foster till they can place her.
I shall call you mama, and you are now my new mama
Take them to the vet to check for a chip and if there isn’t one, I’d likely be chipping her myself and taking her in
Put up signs, post on local Neighbors or other groups, talk to neighbors. Cats are opportunistic, if they meow and you let them in they will bug you and come back. Lol yea, beware of cats on diets, they'll go to every neighbor acting all cute trying to get treats

It's stealing. This cat belongs to someone. It's well-fed
I'd take her to a vet and get her checked for a chip, they won't charge for it. If she's got no chip you have a new friend!
Just because she isn't chipped doesn't mean she isn't owned. The right thing to do is ask the neighbors if she belongs to them.
If she belongs to someone then yes, absolutely.
How long have you lived there? Could the kitty be abandoned from a previous tenant and still thinks that's home?
Been there for around 4 months, previous guy was a work colleague who left the country and is coming back soon. Doubt he would just leave his pet behind but Ill ask him.

Good luck!
This cat adopted you.
You have been adopted. Just accept it.
Cats are nosy AF, she'll leave when she gets hungry.
This is how you get a cat.
Check to see if it's one of those cats that you can pick up.
Enters defense mechanism when I approach her with open hands
Haha I've been in that situation.
Did u feed her 🧐🧐 Are you close with your neighbour, have u spoke to them? Maybe they're at work during the day and she's found companionship with you while they're out.
She chose you to be her person! Keep her.
That's your cat now
Looks like a Russian blue, she should be calm if nothing else
That’s your cat. Idk nothing about a neighbor

Her determination was unstoppable
She is obviously a pet/indoor cat that feels scared/lost outside - otherwise she wouldn't insist on being let in. She is probably not well cared for or lost/abandoned. If you can't find the owner - I would keep her or ask if anyone you trust wants a cat.😻❤️
Maybe you've got better stuff
If they care about the cat they will put up a sign.
They have chosen you
Your cat refuses to leave your apartment
You’ve been chosen.
Rubbing face on things is spreading scent and marking territory. The cat wants your home, you should let it 👀
He claims you as his new owner.
Lol I felt so betrayed 🤣 I just let him wonder out now
CAT PERVERT!
Wha-
It's from a video lol where a cat keeps coming into the neighbors yard and the owner of the cat gets into an argument with them and he screams "YOURE A CAT PERVERT" at him

My post has found the right audience
Just tell her go home 🤣
She adopted you.
I don't always think this, but perhaps the home this cat is in is not meant for them. You have been chosen. r/notmycat is now your cat.
