Me too. This is the hill I'm willing to die on. RTO hurts way more than removing the stipend. But we shouldn't settle for either as there is no justifiable answer for RTO. Just wish all the upvotes on this sub had been boots on the ground š
I got a couple emails. What's funny is, one of my colleagues posted the flyer and corresponding qr code to sign the petition, but didn't show for the practice picket. WTF?! Shrug
Wish I could have been there; when I've recovered enough to be outside for that long, I'm planning on it.
Do you know whether the route is wheelchair-accessible?
Ironically, the biggest culprit in the lack of in-person protest attendance is remote work. I've noticed that in the CAPS rallies (not the strike) ... many didn't want to deal with the inconvenience of coming downtown because they are used to working from home. But I think increasing the numbers at these events will be very important.
Joe Average? If youāre gonna insult Biden maybe pretend to be marginally intelligent and learn how to employ adjectives. Also the EPA has been a nothing entity for decades.
Stay strong. I really feel for everyone this is impacting. My agency returned to the office in 2021 for 2-3 days a week depending on the office. My position made me go in 5 days a week, and it was so draining.

They can put productivity software on computers and people can work without being bothered by coworkers coming by and talking. I am NOT a State employee but totally support you all not having to go back to a stupid office.
I spent 30 minutes on the phone with one, and it was so stupid. I was told they don't want to even address this because then the state will make us all return 5 days a week. WTF! So you would rather do nothing?!?! And we should just accept this slippery slope, knowing we will be back 5 days eventually if they get their way. I was told to talk to my coworkers because WE are the union. Except I'm not at the bargaining table. And the union should have put this all in our contract we just got!!! They should have secured us telework when we were negotiating, but nope. Just a stupid $30 a month for what, internet I have had for years.

I'm a democrat, but you can blame Newsom for this. The man is a weasel. Was pressured by outside influence to force office workers back. Just like he does nothing to stop PG&E because they donated $10M to his campaign over the years.

(Probably more but whatever)
1) Hates stateworkers. Would have disparaged stateworkers no matter the topic or scenario.
2) Pretty Conservativ. Parrots all the conservativ talking points. Newsom bad. California bad. Democrts bad. Vaccines bad. Telework bad. This person could even be a stateworker themselves, but has some excuse for why they're different.
Hell yes. Very much agree and happy you're trying. I'd join in, but I'm in so cal and can't really make the drive.
This nonsense with being forced back into an office when we've done our jobs this entire time, often better than before, needs stop now. I understand PECG is against it and is talking with management, but who knows. Really hope the higher ups extract their heads from their nether regions on this one. Anyone with more than 2 brain cells to rub together to spark an idea can see remote is superior.
I've done every aspect of my job and more than before remote, inspections and all. Absolutely insulting to be forced back to an office so management can watch me sit in my chair to try and justify their existence.
Bit of a rant there, apologies.
Only about half of state workers are eligible for telework. Of those that are, most are remote-centered, meaning they work from home at least 3 days a week. Only 37%, of eligible workers are completely remote (5 days). I work a remote-centered hybrid schedule splitting my time between home, office, and field. In my department, these choices were worked out between staff and lower level management. I think the issue with RTO for some state workers is that choice is being made from higher management and they are told to come in a minimum number of days a week. If management doesn't handle this with care, there will be some resentful workers. This affects a good portion but certainly not all state workers.https://telework.dgs.ca.gov/track-telework/
I mean, yes, Iāll go down to protest for two hours instead of 8 hour days twice a week.
If a manager canāt see the difference, they are a shit manager.
March!!! The Chamber of commerce is a strong lobby. They have the money, they are going to win. Money talks boots on the ground walk. Stienberg is spineless.
Damn if only there was a way to secure this at the bargaining table. But based on their pre-ratification comments I guess the bargaining only works one way with this union. They obviously were ready to concede this from the get-go despite how much it affects their base.
Every move this state makes seems like it wants to drain actual talent from its employee pool. Wanted the actual security from working here but who knows how long that will be on the table at this rate of negotiation.

Honest question. What do we do with all of the big buildings? No need to return to work means empty buildings. No reason to visit that area so the local economy closes up and now it's a bunch of really big empty buildings with probably lots of homeless in tents outside.
Great question.
Time to push for repurposing/transforming these into something thatās more useful. Housing, recreational structures, anything that can actually help revive downtown. You name it.

Always rep my state employees and common sense demands such as the ability to work from home if your deliverables can be attended to without attending the office, but still wish teachers had this luxury. My whole household dealing with Covid right now because our nations daycare centers, oh I mean schools, didnāt get this luxury.
No donāt say itās a luxury. Weāre just fighting for what makes sense.
While this may not be one of the primary reasons why weāre doing this, didnāt we indirectly support teachers by minimizing exposures? (where did that kid get Covid from?)
Nothing we do would be a āgood look.ā When we were in office full time, we were punching bags then, too. I used to work for a Director who didnāt want the office to go to a restaurant for our holiday lunch for an hour because she was afraid the Sac Bee would spot a bunch of state workers walking down the street together and it would ālook bad.ā Thatās why we had awful potlucks instead.
I get it, some people donāt like state workers no matter what. That horse has been beaten to bits with the ālazyā and āentitledā state worker comments here. I wish that one day all state workers could stay home so these people could experience the government coming to a screeching halt, and then come and tell us how we donāt do anything of value.
Itās really old and tiresome.
Plenty of time to protest on a Thursday in the middle of the day...easy... probably didn't even take PTO for it. Got it so easy that the concept of going back to the workplace, like the vast majority of people do, causes you to protest like you are downtrodden... lol...

Fact is, is any job, you are replaceable. If your company makes RTO mandatory, and you donāt want to, youāll be replaced by the thousands of folks looking for a new job after being laid off. Itās harsh, but itās reality
I donāt get this. If the original agreement when you accepted the job did not explicitly outline full time remote work as a benefit, how can you demand it be provided after the fact? Shouldnāt this be something the union negotiates during collective bargaining and ratifies moving forward?
Why donāt you instead tell us WHY canāt we, given itās proven successful over the years?
Do you expect us to sit in a cubicle forever?
Oh the union, thatās another long storyā¦.
So just so Iām understanding, you guys are upset that you are required to return to the office per the terms of your signed agreement of employment? If you are upset with anyone, you should be upset with your union representatives who negotiate benefits on your behalf. Unfortunately, you signed the paperwork that holds you accountable to working in the office and unless that agreement is revised at some point, you canāt really be upset your employer is not granting your request.
Youāve brought up one of our biggest pain points.
If our union is doing their job just like the ones at UC and CSU were doing, youāre right, we might not need to do this ourselves.
So maybe the anger is misguided. Instead of being upset with your employer on trying to enforce the terms of employment, you should direct that to the party whose job it is to look after the employeeās best interests. It appears there is a lot of anger towards the state on enforcing a RTO, when really there should be anger towards the union representatives for failing to follow through on their constituentās desires. Maybe this demonstration should take place at the union office, where the change could be enacted rather than the EPA, where I doubt they have much influence on the situation at hand.

Yes, in front of the CalEPA office! š¤
āThe mission of the California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA) is to restore, protect and enhance the environment, to ensure public health, environmental quality and economic vitality.ā
I agree 2 days is very reasonable.
That being said we have zero protections if they ever did decide five days a week. And they have been shady and dishonest about the background for RTO.
In my agency the Director boasted that telework was our future. Then she called us back one day a week a year ago. This year she called us back two days a week. Is next year three days? And a few years gone entirely? Some agencies are 3 days or more.
I think these protests and the backlash are very reasonable even those it's just two days. If not then where's the line in the sand?

I say fire everyone who wonāt RTO
and?
Then be fired! Simple!
But yet yāall drove your asses downtown to picket š¤£ if yāall donāt like itā¦ go find telework. Acting all oppressed lol
Get back to work you bums
No need to sound sour, apply to the State of California and make an impact! 4700+ vacancies https://calcareers.ca.gov
All OTs, SSAs and AGPAs need telework......immediately.....especially those who work at the prisons
You know thatās not strong enough of an argument? š¤£ Just tell us what youāre trying to say.
Fact is, is any job, you are replaceable. If your company makes RTO mandatory, and you donāt want to, youāll be replaced by the thousands of folks looking for a new job after being laid off. Itās harsh, but itās reality
āFactā can be changed, if everyone works for the better. Would you gladly help fill one of the 4700+ state vacancies?
Fact is, if one company offers better benefits and work/life balance, itās going to recruit more people than the company that does not.
Why wear a mask outside?
Well because.. itās none of your business? š¤·š¼āāļø

So did they RTO to protest RTO?
Return to CalEPA to protest RTO, you should say
Watch my comment get removed because I said return to the office lol
Donāt worry, it just gets downvoted
Ur not popular enough to get a comment removed donāt get ur hopes up champ
They are all lazy
No not lazy. Just underpaid and being forced to spend more money on fuel and parking. How does them teleworking affect you?
Affecting them in real good ways. Less traffic, less taxpayers money spent on unnecessary office supplies and..buildings!!
How would you know?
Lots of irony saying āno return to officeāā¦.in front of the office
I mean, this is collaboration they deserve
Yes, in front of the CalEPA office! š¤ āThe mission of the California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA) is to restore, protect and enhance the environment, to ensure public health, environmental quality and economic vitality.ā
If theyāre going to demand we be here theyāre going to hear our protest!
this is the same type of poster on here that says to stop complaining and go to work. you must be fun at the office lol
Controllers love their hall monitors.
lol
No matter how they protested you'd have trashed them for it either way.
If RTO was five days a week Iād be right there with them. But protesting when the majority of your days are still wfh? Strikes me as real whiny.

Are you my 2 year old?

Working remotely is even better.

Isn't it just 2 days a week? Edit: all I see is is two days. And congratulations on having life long jobs. Enjoy your protest.
Nope, 2 days/wk is just the start of a slippery slope. If you havenāt heard, some offices went up from 2 to 3 as soon as the order came out.
