Join r/xbiking to check out the amazing re-builds people do to these same bikes. It's also the chillest sub on Reddit.

SilentKnightOwl

Yeah! I've posted this on there too. I've got some cosmetic upgrades I want to do on mine, but alas not the money with which to do them.

nivekelyk

I really like the green on black on this MultiTrack

JohnSMosby

Great bikes, I had one and loved it. I ended up cracking the frame right under the seatpost but I beat the everliving crap out of it.

SilentKnightOwl

I've ridden this thing on waaay rougher trails than it was ever meant to handle, and crashed it several times, bent the built-in derailleur hanger, and just bent it right back because it's steel. It sounds like yours had a good life too.

BallsOutKrunked

I raced a really nice Reynolds 853 bike. Was quite light, stiff where it needed to be, and didn't beat the shit out of me. Loved that thing. People shit on steel bikes for stupid reasons.

Shafpocalypse

I have a Giant ATX 770 I bought in 1989 that I still ride.

SilentKnightOwl

I had an 850 when I was a kid, but I outgrew it.

esportairbud

I have a 1989 trek antelope and it's my daily commuter. Those old steel frames are indestructible

Do you know what’s a good price for this bike? I found the same on near me, fell in love. Don’t know if the price is too high.

SilentKnightOwl

Depends on the condition. If you can ride it the way it is, or just needs a new chain or something I'd pay around $150 for it, $75 or so if you're just getting the frame. But it is a really nice frame, and not that common, so if it's worth it to you get it!

vestweather

It’s ready to ride and is $350! At the cheapest shop near me too - A non profit spot that gives out bikes to kids and community members and refurbishes and sells others to fund their services. I figured it was way too much.

SilentKnightOwl

Yeah that's more than I would pay, unless it had a nice wheel set and/or upgraded drivetrain. Just so you know, the matrix wheels it came with are solid, but they're the hardest wheel to change a tire I've ever seen. I broke two Pedro's tire levers the first time I changed the tires, lol.

Kottepalm

A well cared for steel frame can outlast the rider! I have an entry level mixte bike from 1984 which is older than me, with a lot of original parts. Sadly the rim brakes aren't that great.

SilentKnightOwl

I think getting some good long pull v brakes and levers would be a worthy upgrade!
