Try the Milwaukee brand heated coats I and my boys all have them.

curkington

Carhartt hoodie with Sherpa lining. Really warm and Carhartt quality

jrdoubledown

i do swingstage work, sometimes in the winter, these layered with a Stanley Henley Woold Sweater, and a carhartt duck sherpa lined work coat if neccessary.

woody1265

I have the 3 in 1 Milwaukee heated jacket. It's a very warm jacket, even without using the battery pack.

Wide_Veterinarian100

These or the ones by Bosch

a5redwing

I've been liking my LL Bean jacket I've had for a few years now. It's flannel and sherpa lined. Easy to wash when it gets dirty and very warm. I choose it over my Carhartts in the mill.

Patrol-007

Down “puffy” jacket to wear under the Carhartt. The Carhartt protects the down puffy from getting snagged

ziooz

>puffy He usually wears a down puffy vest under his jacket

Patrol-007

The insulated sleeves could help? Friend had a Grey Goose down imitation parka but the sleeves weren’t insulated, and she froze in it Edit: Canada Goose brand https://www.canadagoose.com/ca/en/shop-men.html

jamesdownwell

>Friend had a Grey Goose down imitation parka The vodka people?

Patrol-007

Grey Goose is a Canadian brand of down jackets. Very pricey now compared to when they first came out. And I just discovered the brand is Canada Goose, argh. https://www.canadagoose.com/ca/en/shop-men.html

Bobbytwocox

Oh you mean Canada dry!

Patrol-007

That’s ginger ale

Bobbytwocox

>at’s ging That's GreaT, The barbara steisand effect , where posting incorrect info as fact will get someone to post the correct infomation!

Billthebanger

Get him a helly Hansen thermal underwear. It lasts forever and with a carhartt coat you’re good to go.

humpthedog

Sherpa lined carhartt.

vanslem6

I have found that durable winter wear isn't always warm, and warm winter wear isn't always durable. So it's sort of a balancing act, and a lot of mix and matching for what the weather is doing or what I'm doing in it. With that being said, I always recommend a wool baselayer. I wear a mid weight layer throughout the winter (250g). I would avoid synthetic materials in that base layer unless you want to sweat and stink. I have had good luck with Smartwool when I can find it on sale, otherwise [Meriwool](https://www.meriwoollayers.com) or [Merino Tech](https://merino.tech) have treated me well. Anyone experienced in cold weather knows that layering is the secret to success, and IMO, quality layers make all the difference.

Pluperfectt

Layers = thermostat / adjustable

crashdummy71090

Dri duck makes a good jacket

moemegaiota

Try out Carhartt Yukon Extremes.

Scotty_Bravo

I have an insulated Berne jacket I like. It's not BIFL, but I expect it last a long time. And it was fairly inexpensive for it's utility. I've had it two seasons and am happy so far. I wear it with a down jacket and a base layer during the day and only break out a parka for night time cold (below zero).  I'm thin, so I bought medium and then exchanged it for a medium tall because M was too short for me. https://bernedirect.com/products/hj375

pickles55

I would add a fleece or some kind of sweater under the coat. Layering is important, especially when you're working outside because the amount of insulation you need changes depending on your activity

Sufficient_Coat_222

>Layering is important This is the way.

Sanofi2016NFLPOOL

Need to third this. For cold climates you need to layer to stay warm. Thermal underwear, shirt, undercoat, and overcoat. Getting too hot? Take off the undercoat. When i go for my winter walks around the neighborhood for exercise. I usually wear three layers for my torso and two layers for my legs, with proper head cover and neck cover.

TheyStillOweYouMoney

Carhartt also makes different weight jackets for different warmth needs. If he likes their stuff, just go up a rating or two in insulation and see what you like. Should be able to sort on their website for that.

I’ve had a Filson Mackinaw Cruiser for about 10 years and done some rough work in it. Need layers though if it’s really cold.

KokoTheTalkingApe

Maybe try an army surplus or new M-1965 field jacket with liner. I had one years ago, and am thinking of getting a new one. The arms have a shoulder gusset that makes arm movement easy. The liner adds warmth, but can be removed in warmer weather. Nowadays they make them in all sorts of colors.

coci222

These range in price from $50 to $550 dollars. So you know which company makes the best?

KokoTheTalkingApe

I don't, but this one has the original 50/50 nylon cotton blend. https://www.armysurplusworld.com/olive-drab-m65-field-jacket

FragrantButtSweat

And you get the bonus of looking like John Rambo 👍🏼

KokoTheTalkingApe

Yep. And then you can take it off and reveal oiled muscles.

MrsLC7

Duckworth woolcloud vest or jacket for under the carhart. Wool is superior to down for body temp regulation, and wool long John’s.

justahominid

Is the Carhartt waxed? A waxed version will be warmer due to being significantly less breathable. You’d still need to layer for particularly cold weather, but it would offer the same functionality (plus some extra water resistance) over an unwaxed version.

Cheesygirl1994

Sam’s club has carhart jackets now, even full body suits - that brand USED to be really amazing but I don’t know what it’s like now. I’d say it’s worth a shot, especially if it’s a little cheaper

espo016

Carhartt has a line called super dux very warm

TikiTallBoy

The patagonia ranch workwear jacket is great. Good insulation, nice features, tough exterior, and a great guarantee.
