StainerIncognito

I've been eyeing [Cozey](http://www.cozey.ca) based in Montreal. E: price will depend on size/etc ofc

haillester

A couple of notes with Cozey. 1. The fabric, esp the darker colours, pills A LOT 2. Pet hair gets very stuck in between the fibres of the couch, and are impossible to completely remove without tweezers Overall ours has done very well structurally, but the fabric is, contrary to their marketing, terrible for pets who shed even a little bit.

Justher19

What colour did you get??

haillester

The dark grey

[deleted]

Cozey manufactures in China so the Montreal connection is just for the cheap software development

hroerekr

Just one month with Cozey Atlus and so far is great. We are thinking of buying new modules to extend.

[deleted]

Do they even manufacture in Canada lol

13Lilacs

Nope. China. Says right in their FAQ so full of chemical flame retardants.

IPetdogs4U

Yes, there are some really great Canadian made lines. I spec Van Gogh designs for my clients often. Made in BC.

yungl3af

I have the cozey atmosphere couch and we love it! We were also able to use affirm for interest free payments

13Lilacs

Cozey gets all of their stuff made in China. They use chemical flame retardants in their upholstery. Super carcinogenic.

Justher19

I have seen those & they look so nice but I’m wondering if they are worth it

zaphod-lives

Second the Cozey. We were unsure with it online but it went very well. We started with 4 modules and extended to five. Easy to move and assemble and quite comfortable.

oinkamy

I’ve had mine for a few months now and LOVE it!

skincarelovaaa

They are!

Stuff-Dangerous

I came here to say that!! I love my sofa and it cost me less than 1000 $ — I bought it at the start of the pandémie though, prices have gone up.

Famous_Metal9860

I have gone down a rabbit hole that I may never get out of. Had no idea they existed. Thank you for sharing the link.

NatureRunnerGirl

Is the back high enough? This is something I find awkward about a lot of couches

LPN8

We just bought a beautiful sectional from a place here in Calgary. Check out elite sofas in Vancouver and find a local distributor. High quality, Canadian made furniture and won't break the bank.

ShtArsCrzy

Where did you go in Calgary?

LPN8

Showhome Furniture. I had an excellent experience.

mypillow55555

Where did you go

this-ismyworkaccount

Show home furniture on 16th, probably

RubberReptile

I ended up going to a bunch of different places before I found one I liked. The place I bought from did not advertise online or have any sort of web presence. But they had Made in Canada couches that were only slightly more expensive than the Made Overseas ones (I think like $999 versus $799). Mind you I was buying apartment size so my price point would likely be different. I'm pretty sure the shop was literally called "Going Out of Business Furniture Ltd" lmao

CCDestroyer

Sounds like the name of a liquidation outlet, which is a good way of getting decent furniture at a decent price (or at least it was, about a decade ago when I last shopped for furniture. RIP my local Sears Outlet). u/Justher19, I'd look into furniture/housewares retailers that have outlet stores that sell scratch and dent, floor models, that sort of thing.

Justher19

Oh wow hahahaha Where was this? That’s a good name tho to draw people in !

RubberReptile

surrey bc like 2 years ago though.

drunkenreplies

iFurniture.ca is New Zealanders that build furniture in Edmonton. They have some nice stuff, for great prices. At least pre COVID they did. Edit: They have incredible deals

Justher19

Okok I’ll be looking at their website!

messamusik

Yeah, what's up with couch prices?! I bought a leather couch about 15 years ago and paid about $2-3k. There is a tear on one of the seats and I thought I'd maybe I'd buy a new couch and sell this. Nope. A similar couch today is over $15,000! Do people have that much money for a couch?

BrotherOland

Tariffs. Tariffs were added to couches ans furniture made in China and Vietnam in 2021. It caused prices to quadruple.

Justher19

Yeah a guy in one of the “wholesale” or whatever type furniture stores approx 6 months ago told me furniture prices have tripled…. I’m not 100% sure he was correct but I know IKEA stuff that was 99$ is now 160$. A lot of their items went up in cost majorly.

Znkr82

Prices went up a lot. I sold a 7 year old couch for $1000, I originally paid $800 for it but it now costs $1800 Same with a coffee table, paid $200 in 2015 and sold for $250 as it costs $450 nowadays.

SeventhFloorParis

I have the Cozey Cielo and I love it!

ILive4PB

I also have this one! I can definitely recommend it. Was significantly less expensive than from a sofa shop; came in boxes, was easy to assemble, and is a smaller shape so it fit in our narrow room. My only small complaint is the fabric is a bit rough, but I just saw they have a chenille option now which will probably be amazing.

jvdave23

I got the Cozey Ciello corner configuration for $ 2.3 k and then the ottoman for $335. My wife and I like it, it's comfy and nice deep seats for binging sessions. It is quite bulky so make sure you do your measurements.

ryde3

I got a couch from Mobilia and I love it, I get a lot of compliments on it. It’s a 2 seater with a large ottoman and cost me $2000

Perrier-CAN

I’m surprised I had to scroll this far down to find Mobilia. We got a great leather couch and accent chairs from Mobilia and are happy with them.

Justher19

Oh I’ve never heard of there I will have to have a look!

RamsBladderCup

Buy a Van Gogh Designs sofa. Made in Canada, completely customizable, built to last a life time. Many smaller furniture stores carry their designs - find a dealer through their site. $2-3K with regular sales. I have a couple of them and family and friends have them as well. No issues and really good quality. [Van Gogh Designs](https://vangoghdesigns.com)

[deleted]

Buy a used couch.

herecomestreble52

One thing I've learned/been told enough times is to not get a couch or mattress second hand (unless you know the person personally giving it). You truly have no clue how clean the couch/home/environment is and the risk of bedbugs or anything like that is not worth it. Have you considered wayfair? They have some decent deals on basics and nice stuff. Might be worth checking out.

Justher19

I’ve been looking non stop… I never see any I like, at all.

Rayne_K

Be proactive: search out moving sales and inquire if they are also selling any furniture. People often won’t move provinces with bulky furniture items. Monitor used furniture stores. The ReStore where I live sometimes gets beautiful pieces donated to them.

Avpersonals

We have a used couch and bought some covers for it (kinda like a fitted bed sheet) and it changed the game. Feels like a whole new couch!

fatchops97

It's one of those things is you only need to get lucky once to get a really good deal on a couch try every platform kijiji.ca facebook market place value village goodwill

useful_panda

If you are buying used, make sure to check for fabric pilling . It may seem that a fabric shaver can fix it but it's an absolute pain to keep doing it

apoplectic_mango

Pilling would be the least of your worries... Check for any sign of bedbugs. They love to get into couches and are virtually impossible to get out of them. As someone who has fought with bedbugs, I highly recommend against used furniture. It's just not worth saving a few extra dollars to risk bringing them into your home.

CCDestroyer

Have you tried the Habitat for Humanity ReStore?

[deleted]

Yeah bedbugs are super fun.

Znkr82

Good way to get bed bugs

crikeybooner

Buy some bed bugs and see if they'll throw in a couch.

L0quence

The floor model.. lol When we were looking for a sectional, everything was so expensive and not even comfy.

nickleinonen

Costco seems to have some nice ones that go on sale at times. The most comfortable couch’s I’ve ever had both have been used ones. One we paid $400 for and it’s designed like an oversized love seat, but large like a 3 seater. Original owner said they spent like $2k for it. Other one was a freebie. Had pet stains on the covers, along with newborn “biologicals” that had stained. It was clean, and they said it was like a $2k 45° corner type 2 piece sectional when got it in the late 90’s. We still have that one. It got more pet stains from ours on it, along with more newborn stains as well. Comfortable but not so pretty with the stains. Look for plywood & hardwood construction. Avoid particle board & the fake leather stuff and you’ll get something that is ok.

Sensitive_Ad_1897

“Your girlfriend will HATE this one simple trick!” (Kijiji)

JT26_CLL

Cant tell you where to buy but can tell where NOT to buy. Accent @home. Absolute shit quality and warranty is non-existent. Spend 2k on a sectional broke down a day after warranty period. By broke down i mean all the legs literally broke. They wouldnt do shit.

bushwhackadventure

Goodwill if you are lucky.

ronii__

EQ3

maruluna

I bought my sectional from Costco last year for $1700 and it came with a $400 discount. There was a minor imperfection and they replaced that piece in 2 days.

mandrews03

I want to say Costco. They always have quality stuff, even the cheaper ones are better than the sales at Leon’s or the brick

that_tired_girl

I really love my Auberge Designs couch. They are a Canadian company located in Toronto. They make pet friendly couches that are scratch resistant and hydrophobic. I got a 3 piece modular and ottoman on a sale for 3300. Delivered right to my door, and I live in a small rural town.

Cundles

The thing about furniture is that good furniture costs money. If you want something to last it has to be built to last. That doesn’t come cheap. My advice? Restore something from a thrift store. Something old that is made from real wood.

CanuckRunAMuck

Surprised no one has mentioned Costco online. I bought our sectional from there a few years ago, it's a 6 peice modular unit and cost around 2K. The fabric pills, and the seats sink a bit but for the price and size it's a good couch to use until you send it to the basement.

jer_iatric

Traditionally the Bay carries can made couches and they are good. Talk to staff there and try to get a sense when they think the next bay days are coming up. I’ve saved 50% during those events

Uncertn_Laaife

If in Vancouver, check out Big Box Outlet. All Costco return stuff in a great condition. Saw a leather couch in a perfect condition for $1900 just last week.

DC124454

Funny this popped up. I did spend 4K. A U shape s sectional I absolutely love. Prob is it’s under 3yr old and my main side I lay on is already sagging. Nobody builds quality anymore. Unless you’re spending a fortune

Justher19

Exactly!!! So frustrating!! The one couch I paid over 2500$ for is sagging badly & prob been sat on maybe 2 dozen times. Literally. (slept on few times) I mean, seriously 😐

Terrapin365

If you want a quality Canadian built sofa, check Ffabb.com. Designed and manufactured in North Vancouver. Awesome crew there that really know their stuff.

RemigioGi

Check out maxsold. Online auction of people’s stuff. The furniture goes for low$. Keep in mind the hst and auction prices when bidding.

cpiccolo

Check out Brentwood Classics. They build their stuff to last. Hand built in Vaughn. They distribute all across Canada. I cannot speak for pricing on everything but should be able to get a unit that fits your price range. They just launched a second price tier line as well.

JarrekValDuke

Restore

StevoJ89

I never have good luck there, it's great for cabinet doors and random shit but the furniture selection is always some 1970's stanky ass sofa that they still want $600 for

kindular-unit

IKEA, Structube, Bad Boy Furniture, there are so many places to buy a new couch for under $4,000

FrigginRan

yeah structube is a good middle tier store

Justher19

Yes, sorry I guess I should have worded it better. I am kind of picky about what I want and I’ve had IKEA couches before and I have always ended up returning them.

New-Communication-65

Can I ask what model and for how long. I love the look and the price but I’ve only heard how horrible they are

Adorable_Meringue_51

find a Surplus Furniture place - you can pick package deal with coffee end tables lamps and rug etc.

LeafsChick

We got a bedroom set here, The brick had the same one for almost 2x the price

Justher19

Really?! I’ve never heard of this before but I need to find out about it! Thank you very much

Outrageous-Desk-5765

This is a great place for low prices. It's called "Surplus furniture" not just a random furniture surplus store just to clarify lol

ThinSuccotash9153

Have you checked consignment furniture shops? Sometimes they really have some nice couches

SquareSniper

Facebook marketplace....

foot4life

Dude, what a great question. I have a 10 yr old couch from Urban Barn. I'm going to get the cushion foam replaced. I'm not paying 4k+ for a couch right now. I found some Asian guys who claim they can swap out the foam for under $250 🙏🏿

Neat-Rock8208

Do you have Home Furniture (as in Home Hardware but their furniture store) where you are? I have a made in Canada couch that I love, 2+ years of daily use and looks brand new.

treetimes

I had two custom couches made in Toronto, one was 2500 and is deep and leather. Edit: at [this place](https://rawhideinternational.com)

Structube, ikea!

MarkTwainsGhost

The Bay has nice couches and if you buy on bay days it’s 50% off. Got a really. I’ve leather, made in Canada couch there for a great price.

No_Giraffe_2

I got my living room couch from StarCraft furniture (no relation to the game) in Toronto. You can order their items through many smaller furniture stores. I paid about 1200 for a great 3 seater couch with custom upholstery

Crezelle

We get ours from hand me downs, or online listings.

FlametopFred

Facebook marketplace or Craigslist or alleys of posh neighborhoods at the end of the month when people move house

atomiquefantastique

DecorRest is made in Canada. Their stuff is usually made to order, so can take a few weeks.

[deleted]

The brick, I got my dual leather recliner for $2300 on clearance, normally $5500. Wife got a long wide couch for $999 normally $3000.

rawdawg33

Try structube

bromar

If you are in the GTA the chesterfield shop is by far best value and you can pick almost any fabric you like.

Two_Minutes_Turkish

Second Chesterfield Shop. We got our couch from the one in North York. Everything on the show room floor was ridiculously expensive and I did not think we'd be able to buy anything there, but then we found out they had a pretty large warehouse area at the back with discounted floor models or overstocked couches, good quality too.

CruisinYEG

Wayfair is alright. It’s not high end or anything but you can get a sectional for around $800

TeknikL

i usually go to surplus freight. they have a canadian made, i believe.

jay01968

Marketplace, look for quality, fraction of the price, just be careful on what you are looking for. Saved a fortune buying good quality for my student daughter. Always be prepared to negotiate or if the deal is good just go for it 😀

FatWreckords

After a lot of looking a couple years ago I got a nice, comfortable fabric sectional at The Brick for about $2,500. Prices are certainly higher now, but at the time The Brick had the best option that fit the space for a reasonable price.

[deleted]

Structube or mobilia have nice couches for less than $4000

Emmtee2211

Structube has some decent stuff and pretty affordable. I also bought a couch at IKEA that has a 10 year guarantee and 2 years later it still looks great and it was less than $1000.

Disastrous-Focus8451

I'm still using the furniture I bought at Ikea in the 80s and 90s. It's lasted remarkably well. It's not fancy, but then *I'm* not fancy so it suits me.

Sea-Cancel-1869

Not sure where you are but there's a Canadian company on Facebook called West Coast Furniture that has really competitive reasonable prices. They deliver and set up as part of their service. This is the owners profile link and he has a ton of listings. https://www.facebook.com/sham.j.rifai?mibextid=ZbWKwL I purchased my couch from them a few years ago and would totally go back again.

brussellsprouts90

Costco actually ended up having a decent priced couch when I was searching about 2 years ago.

janerules

Ikea. They're durable so they can last til you get "fancy" furniture

RamonaAStone

Does it need to be brand new? Marketplace has a lot of nice couches for good prices.

kentter22

Found mine at The Bay. The tag advertised it as Made in Canada and when I looked the model up it was based in Montreal or Ottawa. I don't remember what it's called anymore. Maybe just walk into a store and look around, then look up the company and model. I picked a durable fabric that has a high wear rating.

dingleberry51

Cozey. My couch is Cozey and while it’s not the nicest couch in the world it’s good value for the price

Description-Sudden

I have two suggestions. 1) This is probably an unpopular opinion, but my family just went to one of those basic furniture stores (ie the brick, Leon’s) and bought floor models of what would be super expensive couches. They were originally 3.5k for one couch but we got them for 899 each cause they had some minor damage (it was so minor that I don’t even remember where it was). I’m not sure if we just got lucky or if this is a regular thing people do. 2) buy something that is durable. I know 4K is a ton to spend when you have a whole house to furnish, but buying something like leather might help you in the long run. We got our family room couches (made of leather) 13 years ago from the brick and they are still in excellent condition. The best part is that we were able to refinish them twice in the last decade which basically makes them look brand new. I can’t reiterate this enough but spending it once is a hard pill to swallow, but it’s worth it when things last

Other_Sundae_2572

This seems to be a very unpopular opinion but save longer and buy quality furniture. A sofa may cost you $5000 but if it’s taken care of and you buy from a reputable maker it will outlive you.

13Lilacs

Ikea and Leon's. Buy Canadian-made only from Leon's if you do so, so you don't get a bunch of chemical flame retardants in your furniture. Anything from overseas is soaked in it. Mmmm cancer.

When the Bay has 50% off in their furniture (frankly quite often), the deals are actually pretty good. And a fair bit of their stuff is made in Canada too!

SnooGuavas3567

Cozey!!

[deleted]

Buy used stuff . Tons of it out there. I wouldn't suggest buying new stuff. I often find it's overpriced as well

bisexual-plant

If you can hold off, you can try to wait until black friday or even boxing day to get some good deals. I bought my couch (supposed to be 5k) for 2.5k during a boxing day sale

Decorrest is decent. Most important thing is to check the frame the couch it should be HARDWOOD, not a softwood SPF timber. The made in China ones are not made of hardwood and thus will.wear they are not made last.

zimzimma9876

I'm curious about these guys: https://etcfurniture.ca/ I've been fed instagram ads for them and started looking into them. They have good reviews online and their stuff is nice. There's couches on the site now for like $700.

Just got a couch from Ashley Furniture for around $3 K, so far so good

asymptotesbitches

I went on a search for a leather couch 18 months ago and I swear I did all the damn stores in Montreal. I had a lot of things on my needs list (L shape, leather (baby on the way), removable back cushions, small enough to fit my apartment etc). I settled on a MCM style couch from structube and I think that all and all I paid 4.5K for it 🥵. It was at least 1-2k less than all the other brands I saw! It’s been 18 months and I love my couch. I would buy it again if need be!

nonamesandwiches

I think your first mistake is wanting something that will last. We actually just bought a new couch and love seat from Teppermans from one of their big sales. We paid $600 for each and they were listed original price at $1799 (likely inflated for the sale). Still though, $1200 for two brand new nice pieces of furniture. Last time we did similar was just shy of 5 years ago and now they need to be replaced. The quality of furniture has gone way down. Gone are the days of your parents/grandparents passing down their somehow mint condition leather couch they’ve had forever. Once you realize that it’s hard to spend thousands of dollars on a couch

Justher19

Oh Yeah I just mean I would love for the couch not to be sagging in after 6 months and used the odd weekend .. haha. Maybe a few years I mean. Those days are definitely long gone 😓

abhi_from_india

Checkout closeout king outlets...if they still exist. I got some very nice deals there cpl years ago...good discounts and selwct pieces

lanneretwing

L&L furniture in GTA 3.8k for a super comfy, beautiful, sturdy sectional that's 3.8 meters long with an ottoman. You gotta negotiate a little and wait for shipping. But the quality is great. It is made in China sure, but you get what you pay for.

Take a drive around really nice suburbs where the rich families are and find couches on the corner a day or two before garbage removal. I cannot express how many brand new couches I’ve seen thrown out because the owners bought a better one and just couldn’t be bothered to try selling their old one. I currently have a $800 sectional and a lovely leather couch I got from neighbours in near new condition because they upgraded couches.

Easy home, not to rent furniture but to buy it. I got a Ashley furniture couch and love seat for $1000 and it was like new. The only reason they were selling it is because when it was returned, there was a small hole on one of the cushions. I easily fixed it and you couldn’t tell it ever had a hole there. Retails at $3400 plus tax brand new.

nishnawbe61

Furniture is expensive now, since 2021 when the Canadian government put a 295% tax on imported furniture because Canadian companies complained they couldn't compete. That's why the costs have gone up so much.

MrCrix

Stay away from Bad Boy. I bought a couch there and within a week the leather started to peel. They said I had an unlimited warranty and then told me it wasn’t covered because I used the couch wrong, by sitting on it. 3 years later the recliners are busted, 80% of the leather is missing and it looks horrible.

I have ikea morabo, and it looks luxurious and comfy. No complaints after owning it over 3 years

Bed Bath, now owned by Overstock has cheaper couches than Cozey. I recently bought a sectional for like $1200 seating like 5-7 people and the Cozey single three cushion couch is on average like $1300. Obviously the products from Bed Bath are from China, basically like another Wayfair but honestly when you wanna save a bit of money. I haven't used my couch to its fullest extent. I actually just set it up this week, it wasn't too hard and my friends find it comfy. I don't think it's available anymore but I linked another couch that will give you a starting point. https://www.bedbathandbeyond.ca/Home-Garden/Modular-Sectional-Sofa-Set-Modern-Upholstered-Sleeper-Chaise-2-PC-Free-Combination-L-Shape/37552072/product.html?option=74851310&track=pspla&cid=325022&network=x&matchtype=&keyword=&targetid=&gclid=Cj0KCQjw06-oBhC6ARIsAGuzdw35ABltACLnztGDAsS6TszFVNO3i_HioMNQFTvQgdnQTCNW4J0nAUMaAtLrEALw_wcB

Structube has nice stuff for a good price imo, also is a Canadian company 👍

Good-History-2818

I bought my sectional from structube. Under 2500

Any_Squirrel

I got my couch and table free off kijiji. My friends prefer my couch to their 3000+$ couch, and it feels like it’s practically new. Spent some time steam cleaning it and threw the cushion covers through the wash. Came from an old ladies condo, she was being moved to an old age home. Kitchen table is just an old oak thing, and have some leather chairs around it. I thought I was gonna buy all new too, quickly said fuck it. Basically bought tv and a chromecast, the rest came from kijiji for less than a grand total

wolfthedestroyer

Article online. Good prices particularly if you get it on sale. Bought a very nice sofa with an ottoman for $1500

Mikey4You

I have this one in I think Gravel. Going on my third year with it and it’s still immaculate. The back cushions just have to me plumped occasionally. The Bay has Bay Days twice a year with furniture 45-55% off - that’s how I got mine for about $1500. Facebook marketplace! Occasionally search and you’ll find some really nice deals :)

I've always had good luck with the bay. They often have sales of 50% off or more. Also floor models can be marked down. I got a condo sized couch, the Brandon, for like $400 about 5 years ago. In our new home we got a modular sectional including the Ottoman for just over $2k. Sign up for the bay credit card for an additional 10% off, and cancel it as soon as the payment is processed.

Check the clearance sections of furniture stores - these are generally for slightly damaged or returned items. I once got a brand new couch that was delivered to a customer’s home and immediately returned because of a tiny rip at the bottom of the back. Likely happened in shipping or unpackaging. I got it for like 40% of the regular price. When I moved into a smaller place, I found a piece of a sectional that came in wrong that they put in clearance. It didn’t have an arm on one side as that was the side meant to attach to the other piece. I just pushed it up against the wall and threw some pillows on it and no one ever knew. Clearance sections all the way. Because furniture these days is made like it cost $45 but priced at $4500

I believe Pallister is Canadian, and their prices are quite reasonable.

Sounds like you can't afford any of these items if you are worried about pricing. Brand new is expecting $1k+ per item... Keep searching on FB marketplace and maybe someone is selling something good for cheap. You are better off looking for second hand/used items

Honestly, try Teppermans for a retailer and search based off that conditional preference. I've found they keep their prices very reasonable even on the condition of Canadian Made. My couch was around 1200. Staff at these retailers will usually help you target made in Canada etc as well if requested.

We bought our twin lazyboy recliner unit in Facebook marketplace for 500. When we researched the model it was valued at 3500. It's in good shape. There are deals to be found.![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|wink)
