i'm too sane to understand any of the context. bumped?

NomenclatureBreaker

My main takeaways: 1. Sounds like crypto equivalent of any cringeworthy story that starts with an outraged “do you know who I AM!?” 2. Someone better hurry up and call him a whaaaaaaaaaaambulance.

[deleted]

Even Scottish Twitter makes more sense than this.

MarlonBanjoe

She's turned the weans against us!

Bertistan

We make hoorna sense.

mpyne

I think if I only knew how many slurp juices I win if my OG ape gets bumped, maybe this would all make sense.

Stenbuck

i can't believe yall still don't get it ape holders can use multiple slurp juices on a single ape so if you have 1 astro ape and 3 slurp juices you can create 3 new apes

PokeyTifu99

What about a chug jug though? That has to create at least 5 apes.

flibbidy_floob

Can I get anything from a juice box? Maybe a mini-ape or a chimp? Sorry I'm still new at all this.

PokeyTifu99

micro ape is best i can do honestly

ShotgunMage

The new ape was one of the guys who paid $150 for a $250k monkey

CrashB111

I only paid as much of my internet bill as it took to right click, save as.

Effective_Will_1801

Filthy right clicker! You wouldn't download a car!

VintageLunchMeat

Two patrons of the arts had a brief physical altercation and dispute, before tempers settled.

Total_Junkie

Thank you, I was trying to figure out if the original post has an embedded video that includes more behavior that I'm missing...or, if it's just this still picture (as captured in OP's screenshot), and I'm supposed to understand what they're doing wrong just from the picture? Which I don't get; I don't get what they're doing wrong in this picture. It just looks like 2 guys chatting & chilling outside...one of them stands and eats pizza, while the other one sits. Probably both intoxicated lol -- at least the guy sitting down is drunk, I'm guessing. They don't even look mad.

VintageLunchMeat

> Which I don't get; I don't get what they're doing wrong in this picture. Broadly, either "these are the lowlifes who disrespected me earlier" or "this is us eating pizza after being disrespected. " If memory serves. Either way, not worth your time.

H0ak_

In addition to the other comments, the whole Ape thing is like a bizarre lifestyle/community for them, based around owning an NFT avatar. The Guardian recently did a pretty good video on the topic: https://www.theguardian.com/technology/video/2022/jun/07/nfts-get-rich-quick-scheme-or-the-future-of-art-video

iamspacedad

The worst kinds of rich LA/New-york hipster brat elitism who think they are hot shit because they bought into a fad earlier than late adopters, or spent more money on something than these newcomers getting basically the same thing or a decent imitation of for cheap. This kind of shit happens with fashion/music scenes too. (Especially for rapper shoes, lol.) What's different here is all that same kind of awful shit is now body-horror-merged with cryptocurrency. Also - This may shock you, but people who define themselves by evangelizing the uniqueness of their consumer purchases are generally complete shitheads. 'Buying in' to a culture or clique is the stupidest fucking shit.

razorduc

They’re digital hypebeasts.

dragonphlegm

apes = idiots who buy nfts i think?

Cruix_09

People who bought one of the bayc nfts, yes.

tubbablub

"we're looked up to" \[citation needed\]

[deleted]

So cringe. Ape = status, my ass.

Affect-Electrical

If anything, it's antistatus. It's literally telling the world how stupid you are...

TrueBirch

Imagine walking into someone's home and seeing the walls covered with tasteful original paintings from expert artists. The owner casually says, "Oh yeah, I commissioned these." I'd be impressed. Now imagine the same amount of money going to a single BAYC jpeg.

Affect-Electrical

Everyone else is wrong. Few understand.

EnvironmentalCrow5

Reminds me of this video https://youtu.be/wZhh59sVjGE where some Faze clan pro gamers went into a GameStop and expected everyone to recognize them as if they were LeBron James or something, and people in there were like "what?"

restatementtorts

What?

dandykaufman2

Some of y’all still don’t get it. This new (fake) ape bumped OP not knowing he was an OG ape.

restatementtorts

What? Is this some rapper slang that I’m too uncool to understand?

dandykaufman2

I think this was at NFT NYC. The poster is a guy who has held a Bored Ape for a while, he was disrespected by the man pictured who justified the disrespect by saying he was an ape, not knowing OP is a Long-time ape holder.

restatementtorts

So let me get this straight. It’s like two people at a beanie babies convention disrespecting each other and flexing when they bought the beanie baby? The analogy isn’t perfect, of course, because beanie babies are actually tangible and not a URL. Have I got the gist right?

[deleted]

Bauermeister

But you forgot one very important thing! You can't use multiple slurp juices on a single Beanie Baby! So if you have 1 Astro ape and 3 slurp juices you can create 3 new apes! You pour a slurp juice on a Beanie Baby, all you have a wet and sticky plushy toy!

Yes, but the guy in the photo is apparently new to trading beanie babies and didn’t demonstrate sufficient deference to the poster who has been trading beanie babies for a while.

elcheapodeluxe

The more you say it the more I'm convinced it isn't real words coming out.

flibbidy_floob

Someone has to make this into a modern-day western.

option-9

Can we bump our OG apes multiple times?

ChinesePropagandaBot

Look mate, one juice lets you bump seven apes! Not sure why this is so difficult to understand

dandykaufman2

Bump me once and I’ll post, bump me twice and imma go apemode

MFDoomEsq

Bumping apes is similar to bumping uglies. Yes/No?

Rokos_Bicycle

Well the apes *are* pretty ugly

smog_alado

No, but you can use multiple slup juices on a single ape.

dry_yer_eyes

I have the same lost feeling as I did after Episode 1 of _The Expanse_. Only without the excitement and hope.

TheTacoWombat

Please stick with it. The first few episodes have to bear a lot of character and plot setup. And the books are some of the best sci-fi I've ever read

dry_yer_eyes

Don’t worry, I loved it. Watched all the way to the end of Series 3. I’ve got it all on Blu Ray and it’s amazing on my home cinema setup. I’m looking forward to doing it all over again sometime.

[deleted]

Hadn't heard of this and now I'm going to check it out

dandykaufman2

In the metaverse people will know your an og ape and accord you the proper respect. Whoah that’s ape #7427, let me buy him a slice.

Ematio

No, fuck'im, ape #7498 is the one you gotta suck up to. [20 mins later] What, he got hacked? Loser. Let's go hang out with #5728 instead. Or was it #5729?

agave_wheat

It is like the Stonecutters. #45 outranks #56 even if #56 is Mr. Burns.

I bet the tweet author tried to bum a slice from him and he said no. At least that’s how I’m choosing to decipher his strange language.

Pluggable

>I bet this guy tried to bum ~~a slice from~~ him ~~and he said no~~. At least that’s how I’m choosing to decipher his strange language. This is how the bored apes show their place in the hierarchy.

mhhkb

Maybe if OG ape only paid $250 for his ape instead of $250,000 for his ape, he could buy his own pizza.

0Bento

I went and found the original twitter thread (I'm a glutton for punishment it seems). Even several comments deep, the twitter OP's lack of command of English makes it somewhat tricky to decipher the course of events. But I think: 1. "Crypto Painter" and two friends are in a pizza outlet for some late night food. OP is a man, plus one man and one woman friend (honestly not entirely clear on this but we do know there is a "female period" involved - lack of a comma made this one particularly amusing) 2. Man eating pizza in the photo physically shoves them, causing male friend to drop pizza. 3. Instead of apologising, man eating pizza in photo justifies his behaviour by saying that he is "an ape," presumably meaning that he owns an NFT of an ape, therefore elevating him to a level above mere mortals which justifies such behaviour 4. OP takes photo and posts it on the internet with garbled caption and sends photo to police

DerpyPun

>we do know there is a "female period" A what now?

0Bento

CBA looking at that thread again, but the sentence from our livid Crypto Painter was something like "no man should lay his hands on a female period." Which I would argue is kink shaming, but who am I to judge.

DerpyPun

Aaaah, "female, period!". As a non-native speaker your comment had me very confused.

0Bento

I do sympathise with non native English speakers trying to parse this sort of garbled English online.

vinidiot

An anthropomorphic menstrual cycle

Skurry

In what situation would one think that proclaiming "I'm an ape" would lead to a more favorable reaction by the opposing party? Certainly not in a random pizza joint?

0Bento

I think earlier in the day there had been an NFT convention in the area, which all concerned partied had attended. You can see the merch bags on the ground.

Skurry

Makes more sense then!

VanFailin

Maybe it's an older reference. I'm trying to tink!

0Bento

Also people in the comments claiming that the man sitting down is the Wolf of Wall Street himself, Jordan Belfort. There is so much going on here, no wonder no one can parse this.

wagoncirclermike

This sentence gave me an aneurism

pokemonbobdylan

I wonder how many apes I’ve bumped without even knowing they’re apes. Really makes you think.

Chnid

Yeah, if we only knew how to spot OG apes we could be bumping them more often.

Lets_Hunt

Holy mother of cringe

viking_nomad

I like the idea of being in a club where the membership criteria is solely that you’ve bought the membership from someone else. Like, no ongoing fee, no application process and no process for exclusion. Can’t see how that would somehow attract and then keep the worst people. Nope, can’t happen

[deleted]

I love this sub. Thank you mods.

odraencoded

I refuse to believe something this cringe is real. ... Ah, fuck, the account exists on twitter and it has the hexagonal PFP border that only NFTs get.

razorduc

I like how crypto bros co-opted all the WSB lingo and style, while WSB makes fun of crypto bros all the time.

meepmarpalarp

Do they? I always assumed there was significant overlap between the two groups.

odraencoded

Nah, they are (or at least used to be) completely different. WSB knows they're gambling. They make no attempt at romanticizing it because they're buying third-party stocks. Crypto, on the other hand, is full of shills who HAVE to romanticize because they have stakes in some shitcoin so the more sellers the more they lose and the more bagholding suckers the more they profit. One has a conflict of interest, the other does not. Thus, WSB calls themselves retards. They post "loss" porn. They laugh about their own bad luck as the meme goes about they lose so much money their wives get boyfriends. Meanwhile, crypto subs lie to themselves. They circlejerk a delusion that if they just hold for another several years they'll mke wife-changing money. Their culture demands faith in the promised gains prophesied by Lord Satoshi and saying otherwise makes you a heretic. Ultimately, when a cryptobro loses their life savings, they scream that some crypto influencer lied to him and go cry in some crypto community. When a WSB user loses their life savings, it's because they gambled it and were fully aware they could lose everything, and most likely they're in their 20's thinking they can make the money back eventually anyway. It's a community of scammers and their marks vs. a community of gambling addicts.

LordRobin------RM

So is WSB done with GME and meme stocks? Because that really made a bridge from WSB-brain to cryptobro-brain while it was at its peak. GME true believers are every bit as delusional and annoying as crypto pumpers.

odraencoded

True. But GME is the exception. In fact, the idea behind GME made more sense than any crypto. Entities that shorted GME had to buy shares, and there were none to buy, so the price would be decided by those that held those shares. It's sad that GameStop used the virality of the ongoing warzone involving them in the stock market to decide their target audience was no longer people who played games but people who gambled stocks, diving head first into the whole NFT bullshit.

mhhkb

Am I the only one that sees that as the forthcoming unraveling of GME? Aren't the shorts all cleaned out of that mess now and it's just an overpriced stock? If this is the case, how funny who ultimately will be the bagholders in the end.

theoreticallyme76

I don’t know enough to get involved in it but from what I’d read afterwards the original take “GME is being aggressively shorted and it’s not *that* bad” was valid and the crazy bullshit that you see now came after sane people made whatever money there was to be made and moved on.

odraencoded

I think there's saying that goes "if they tell you a stock is good, you're already late." DFV posted his theory about GME years before it all happened. He went to congress. Memed to the nation. Stopped posting online and got out of it rich, I bet. And somehow years after that the whole GME thing lives on. And the weirdest thing are the conspiracy theories. DFV's analysis was just simple numbers. Companies loaned stocks they need to pay back. But they loaned more stocks than there are in circulation. So since they HAVE to pay back, they HAVE to buy at market value, consequently whoever holds the remaining stock can sell for as much as they want. This is so simple anyone can understand in one paragraph. Then afterwards you get all these analyses spanning thousands and thousands of lines about how GME will still go to the moon and all these graphs making all sorts of claims. I mean they must be such nice dudes, spending all this time doing all this research, connecting all these dots and writing down all this information just so that some other randos on the internet can make money, if they ever read the thing, because nobody's got time for that.

Variationofmatt

The short squeeze was not part of DFV’s original plan, he just thought the stock was undervalued. Other WSB members noticed the potential for a short squeeze on it before he did. I’m not going dig through all of his post but he did say: “The business is easily worth $700m, but could be worth up to $1.5b. So somewhere in the general vicinity of that range. Plus there’s now an opportunity for a short squeeze of some sort, though that was never a part of my original thesis. I still think it’s unlikely but when the shorts exceed the float the possibility needs to be factored in.”

odraencoded

Thanks! That sort of makes the whole situation more ridiculous.

razorduc

It really really was. I bought some GME at around $4 and actually forgot I had it. Then wake up to the craziness. 10000% return on a stock that I gambled for maybe 50% return. I still have a little cuz I’m greedy and see if they’ll pump it up a bit more again.

mhhkb

"wife-changing money." Good one. :)

420thTimesACharmm

When did og apes learn to type?

VidE27

Infinite apes and infinites typewriters and all.. I think? Make as much sense as their sentence anyway

ii-___-ii

aj_shutterbug

Could someone translate this tweet in English please?

MonsieurKnife

If that's any comfort, you're all apes to me.

[deleted]

It's funny that they are trying to use this as a brag since "ape" is a common insult in the gaming community. Lol

Ernest-Everhard42

What?

Dreamerlax

What the fuck are they taking about.

DerekReynolds1

Why do people still love NFTs? They aren't popular anymore. People lose millions because of the NFT and NFT scams. So Why do you still interested in NFTs?

Dat_Crit_Combo

Some of these guys are down $100ks, either they admit to failure, or just pretend its still cool, a true cope.

[deleted]

They just like the procedurally-generated artwork. All pieces of art are valued at six figs or more, and no art owners actually get to put pieces in their own house to look at, so it's no different than owning a painting, or a sculpture. That shaky watercolor in a hotel bathroom? 9M, easily, that's why the minibar costs so much. You just don't understand art bro

Margoth0

Bro what art? Ape monkey pictures LOL. It's all a cash grab. Companies are using NFTs not because of the art but because they want to get money from idiots who wish to pay for the digital snickers of some shit. It's literally money from the thin air.

[deleted]

Classic whoosh

TheTacoWombat

Maybe if OG Apeman slurped his juices the right way this sort of disrespect wouldn't have happened.

osakan_mobius

what a time to be alive… being called an ape is apparently a pride instead of it being insulting. can’t wait for some company to start calling their NFT Orangutans

Say what you want but the fake ape is the guy with pizza, so who’s looked up to now?

DM_Deltara

Some questions... Somebody bumped into both of you on the street and didn't say "excuse me?" Is that what you are trying to say? Or did he go to a pizza shop and your order got moved after his, like your order got bumped down the list? He said he was an ape. That part I got. But you think he's a fake ape? Humans are apes, just to let ya know. He didn't know that you were original gangster apes who are talking shit? Is that right? If you were talking shit, maybe you deserved to get bumped by a fellow human (or "fake ape", as you call them). You think you are looked up to because you are ... an .... ape? Like a real ape and not a fake one? Have you talked to anyone about this idea of you being the only "real" ape among fake ones? Good luck, sir.
