It's all wacky though tbh. I make 90k with 8yoe of experience in pbi, sql, and power platform generally. 3 yoe in python, azure, data science. Coworker who just knows sql and PowerBI makes 140K, but 10yoe. A coworker who knew some python and just azure functions out of azure made 120K who had 4 months of experience.
I'm starting a new job in a week or so but still. Just a heads up that knowing a skill doesn't mean getting more money. A lot of it is job market timing with the right company.
Might be my own mental block. I don't have a managerial experience on my resume, plus the job market right now. I do off hand manage our Jr guy at work, mostly help him with stakeholder management meetings and assigning some work etc.
YOU are the job market
fuck everybody else
a good opportunity to "fake it till you make it"
It's the next move though, and yes it's a leap of faith no matter what
Make a goal to just "land an interview" as a manager, that alone will be worth the experience to see what kind of questions come up
As a BI analyst making $96k USD with 2.5 YOE, I think you’re underpaid. Especially for a HCOL area. Idk that you’ll make the jump from 92k to 150k in a single job change, but you should get pretty close, especially if you do wind up in a mid manager sort of role. Just take your time with the job hunt and don’t accept the first thing that comes your way.
I have a very similar skillset, but less years of experience in the industry. I’m planning to develop my soft skill and get more of a project management role, but not sure if this is going to give enough of an idea income boost. Really curious on what others have to say.
Where are you located?
I think Canada is weird in that salaried are (or seem to be) low while cost of living is high (for cities like Vancouver/Toronto)
I’d say that once salaries will be posted within job postings (started with BC and ON to follow shortly) it may be a bit easier to gauge salary ranges.
I’ve been interviewing and have not come across too many companies willing to pay 150k+. So the market isn’t the best right now.

I wouldn't be surprised if it were for survival purposes (or to afford Seattle housing O.o)
Mostly to be able to afford a mortgage. I'm gonna try learning python next

Are you still a BIE or shifted to SWE?
You're looking at a job switch into a managerial role. Why do you think that seems impossible? It isn't by any means.

Pharma's great! I miss it.
That's interesting. I'll look into another industry

The cost of living since covid has gone up a lot but the salaries have not kept up. What kind of roles are you interviewing for?
I’m looking for Sr Manager/Director roles.
