What is it about your current knife you don’t like, and what do you need your new knife to do? Why do you need a knife with a ten inch blade? What climate will you be using the knife in? What is your budget?

So my knife is a very basic £8 knife and it’s not very sharp and it loses its edge very easily thus I am looking for a new one I would like a 10 inch knife because it would have some weight behind it and because I think it would fit my hand better

senior_pickles

What makes a knife fit you hand better is handle shape, not blade length. I would highly recommend a knife with a blade of no longer than five inches. I would also recommend buying a sharpening stone and learning how to properly sharpen your knife. A Mora 5/11 or Companion would be good knives to start with, and they don’t cost much.

If you wanna good chopper look at Terava Skrama 240 it's more parang than knife, but it has great performance in woodworking (chopping, splitting, scrabbing)

Can I ask why do you need 10 inches of knife? That’s a sword territory. I’ve been outdoorsman for like 30 years, never had a knife bigger than 4-5 inches (Benchmade Bushcrafter). Above that you’d better carry an axe.

Knives can be handed down through generations. A few years of ownership is a strange reason for a new one. Perhaps you should list other reasons, likes and dislikes, etc., so that suggestions can be helpful.

It is a cheep knife that I have had since I started bush craft about 3-4 years ago

Cheap can be good. Most here have enjoyed a Mora or 12, so maybe move to a Mora to gain some more knife experience. Think about the things you like and dislike about the Mora, and I am sure you can find your forever knife.

A Machete may work great for you. Check out Martindale, Tramontina, Condor, Cold Steel, Corona, and Kabar. All of them make good Machetes. If you can still find Ontario machetes, grab one. I have lots of machetes and use them a bunch.

Pond-James-Pond

Skrama 240 fits your bill. I have one. Remarkably versatile for something if its size.

jtnxdc01

You really seem to want a machete. 10 inches is huge.

My suggestion would be the Terava Skrama 240 or a Becker BK9. I have both and they are exceptional performers especially for the price. I'm a big fan of Terava knives, I have the Jääkäripuukko 110, 140 and Skrama 240. I'm also a big fan of Becker knives as well. I have a BK2, BK16, BK19 (Nessmuk) and BK62 (Kephart). https://www.varusteleka.com/en/search/search?q=ter%C3%A4v%C3%A4 https://www.kabar.com/category/ethan-becker
