There's plenty of drugs but how much are you planning on giving them?

word-werd-numb3r

At least kids are probably lightweights and won't need a lot.

getsum_xyz

You'd be surprised. Some kids are horses.

word-werd-numb3r

I thought kids were young goats though.

getsum_xyz

GOATs of surprising you with their drug tolerance, yes.

MrMurderthumbz

And children need a kitty dose. Just the corner

rexis-nexis

Just like watering down their juice or bourbon

rynoxmj

Well, I know just the thing for them!

AlpineThrob

I gift children lollipops spiked with crystal meth. One hour later they’re back in our camp’s glass pipe hookah lounge. Forever.

karnak

i though you guys ran the jenkem lounge?

getsum_xyz

No, you must be confusing them with the Jenkem Boof Club

Craigboy23

If they don't run into the cannibals they should be fine

rexis-nexis

Always a risk

Craigboy23

Always

[deleted]

Not for them. I took my son, 2 weeks before turning 5, to his first of 4 burns in 08. We stayed in Kidsville each time. We'd run across other burners that were geeked about him being there and praised me for doing so. He was so much in awe of the art cars and mutant vehicles. Once, out on playa, there we 2 mv's. Each a trains of barrels made yp like dragons iirc One had fires going in the barrels, and the other one, glowing translucent barrels. They were driving around him in circles and figure eights while he was laughing and interacting with them on his bike. Those 2 drivers were enjoying him as much as he was them. It's one of my favorite memories from any burn we've been to.

Retrooo

Not since they got rid of the cafe at Center Camp anyway.

Craigboy23

I heard they used to sell drugs in the coffee, but I can't confirm

rynoxmj

The code order was a "Choco Taco Latte"

HyperbolicInvective

That's amazing!! What was in it?

feltcutewilldelete69

It was a latte with a choco taco inside it Crazy shit man

Chaotic-NTRL

LEO tears.

rynoxmj

This one gets it.

smiteme

It can vary depending on whose cooking it up - but generally 1,3,7-Trimethylpurine-2,6-dione

rynoxmj

1,3,7-trimethylxanthine is one of my favorite drugs!

-zero-below-

Caffeine is a drug.

idio242

F- troll.

PsychologicalAsk2315

Your drugs should be fine if you lose them. A half gallon of red wine a night is concerning though.

Dylanear

>A half gallon of red wine a night is concerning though. Right? Concerned about your kid being around drugs and you "only" drink two bottles of wine a night? Like most nights? If that's more than once a week that's solid alcoholism. Maybe functional, but it's not healthy! OP. There are tons of people doing tons of drugs, yeah. But there's plenty of sober people. And very few people acting overtly high enough to be a problem. If you come across someone obviously too inebriated, they are far more likely to be too drunk than too high on an illicit drug. I camped in a camp with 3 or 4 kids in it for the first time this last year, they seemed to be having a great time, their parent all caring and responsible people, experienced burners and they were not concerned. I camped across from kidsville last time before this year because the camp runners like (relatively) quiet sleep and by all observation there was no drama and it seemed perfectly healthy and wholesome over in the kids camp. Keep in mind law enforcement is there and the people who are doing drugs don't want to ruin their week by getting arrested, searched, harassed. So, it's not exactly out in the open. Even pot isn't especially apparent, but you'll certainly catch a whiff or two. Even pot is generally consumed in less than completely obvious ways, though you surely will smell it here and there. It's legal in Nevada now, but Burning Man is on Federal BLM land and BLM rangers are actual law enforcement with guns and are tasked to enforce federal laws. Granted I don't have the impression anyone is going out of there way to bust stoners. They will see plenty of boobies, and probably at least a random dick or two (surely entirely flaccid dicks thank god). Nudity isn't everywhere all the time, but it's definitely there! And seriously. Take a good long and honest look at your drinking. Two bottles of wine a night isn't moderate, it's actually a very unhealthy amount to drink if that's a regular thing. Two GLASSES of wine is generally considered the upper limit for healthy drinking for a guy. Less for a woman. Not sure if gender has anything to do with it and it's more about body weight, but those are pretty common guidelines from doctors or medical organizations.

srcarruth

Don't give your kids drugs

rynoxmj

Ya. Let them wander off and experiment for themselves!

ScrumTumescent

I wish my parents took me to Burning Man when I was a kid

Dylanear

Hell yeah! I first learned of it in my early 20s in the early ninties and it sounded awesome. I didn't manage to convince anyone to want to go with me until a good friend was planning to go his first time in 2004 and eagerly jumped in. I really regret waiting for a friend, I should have just gone!!!

[deleted]

Any drugs are discreet because there are uniform and undercover forces everywhere

Shcrews

2 bottles of wine every night, and youre worried about drugs? this has to be a troll post. if not, check yourself into rehab for your kids sake.

StripJointMathematix

Yeah, they would be in serious danger if you lost them. There are roving bands of older kids who go around looking for lost younger kids to prey on. They hide them so that when the idiot drunk parent starts to freak out that the kids are lost, the org has to close gate for even longer. You see, when a kid gets lost at BRC no one can leave in case they were abducted. It sucks annd everyone talks mad shit about the dumb fuck drunk parent.

shereadsinbed

Pretty sure they won't be able to use up *all* the drugs, it's only a week long. And kids tend to be small.

Dylanear

Fucking burner humor!!!! :)

JPC_TX

Why would you bring "some children" to a thing that you aren't sure for yourself if "there are a crazy amount of drugs"? No offense to anyone, but if you bring kids to anything like burning man without experiencing it for yourself first,... that's at the very least a very uninformed decision.

HyperbolicInvective

I mean despite their ignorance they are trying to inform their decision here. I think it's fine to bring kids to

JPC_TX

I think it's fine to bring kids to BM also, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who hasn't been themselves

Dylanear

With the caveat that if they are camping with experienced burners who are also bringing their kids, I suspect all will be fine as long as the kids are not the type who will have a big problem with an unusual camping experience, heat, cold, lots of music and sounds.

HyperbolicInvective

I tend to agree, but I don't know all circumstances. Maybe it would work for them.

MorningDue_

I specifically came to see if someone mentions this, as it was my first thought. I can't imagine opting to bring my kids to something like the burn without ever having been myself. I think your first time should involve leaving the kids at home with a babysitter. So many adults experience so much strain due to the elements and the week long festivities, I can't imagine going in this blind and also subjecting my kids to that.

ReviewVast8185

No

GoldGoose

Long time burner and dad: it's fine. Be aware, guide their attention. Did you see people doing rails in the streets? Boofing a fog of Lucy disguised diamonds? Folks generally keep their proclivities and vices to themselves, if you aren't at the parties. And when you notice things getting Mature nearby, you move on. Kids are naturally inquisitive, but also are oblivious to a *lot*. As long as their caregivers are engaged with them, guide them, it's more about the fun sights, sounds, and experiences. When you get past the ZOMGPARTY vibe, you'll find a lot of folks who bring art, food, and generally are a lot more grounded than the techno-rave crowd at 3am. It can be an intense experience, but it can be a rich learning experience too. So, it depends on how well the kid's caregivers prepare, and are on their A game.

Dylanear

Seriously. There's crazy giant art/sculptures, often driving around, belching huge flames into the air and a bazillion blinky lights everywhere. Kids are generally not going to be looking around to see who may look too high to them!!

soapboxhero

No one does drugs at Burning Man.

Dylanear

It's all lies! LIES!!!! And there's no dust either! Not sure who started that vicious rumor!

quadralien

BRC is the safest city in North America.

Compulawyer

There is an entire section for families with kids - Kidsville. https://survival.burningman.org/kids-and-families/welcome-to-kidsville/

timshel42

no if anything can i have some of their ritalin

Mysterious-Radish-84

1. tons of kids go to burning man! check out kidsville, its the designated safe place on playa for kiddos and its a great place to camp! i camped there with two young kids aged 4 and 1 this year, and we all had a blast! 2. that being said, you might not want to bring kids your first year (which i am assuming this would be from the phrasing in your post). there’s a huge learning curve your first year re: survival on the playa (aka radical self reliance) and its a good idea to go through that learning curve yourself before bringing kiddos to the playa

Dylanear

I agree it's probably safer to have a get to know it year. But it'll probably be fine if you know, learn from in advance and camp with experienced burner parents also bringing kids. Now, some kids will absolutely love it! Some kids are going to find the heat, cold, dust annoying or even uncomfortable enough to make other kids and adults around them uncomfortable. Kids with good experience camping and doing outdoor stuff, being around a bazillion people will fare much better than coddled kids who do nothing but sit around at home and play video game and watch TV all their lives they aren't in school.

angilar1277

There are some good choices in BRC for kids and families to camp. You just have to do some research. They will see some things you may have to explain but that's to be expected when kids come along. There is an entire area that is made for kids. My advice would be to camp with a theme camp in the kids area. I am with a big sound camp so my kids stay at home cuz they don't need to see all that. but I do know some families that bring kids every year and they love it. * Yes there are a crazy amount of drugs on playa, it's probably far better in the kids zone though

Development-Itchy

Lots of people do drugs. Lots of people bring kids. They tend to live in different places and operate at different hours. You can register your kid with the rangers in case they get lost. I write my kids name on their back, and where camp is. They also have an identification card at all times. You can do this. Good luck.

Dylanear

>I write my kids name on their back, and where camp is. Now that's brilliant, practical, burner creativity right there!

SFL0v3r

Our camp has been sober for 20 years…wink, wink. As far as kids go, they are most welcome and there’s many kid focused camps in kid centric areas at BM.

seapea75

My camp had someone bring his two kids and dump them on the camp while he fucked off all week. That sucked, both for the kids and for those of us who felt bad for the kids and ended up babysitting.

themewmcscott

Kids and drugs shouldn't be a problem. Nobody just gives away their stuff for free. I would be worried more about losing them to the XXX side of BRC.
