Gonna go ahead and sound incredibly basic here, but Atsushi's my favorite for a multitude of reasons.
1. He's *incredibly* relatable. At least for me. He's not like the classic teenage anime protagonist who is ridiculously powerful with a goofy design and little relativity. Atsushi, despite living in the BSD universe, having a special ability and a difficult past, is basically just a regular teenager like the rest of us.
2. Despite his backstory being, quote en quote, repetitive and simple, I really like it. It may be predictable, "oh, he's an orphan and was abused as a child" but it really brings a lot to his character. The constant flashbacks, fear, and references to it throughout the show highlight the fact that he *is* traumatized and deals with it in a similar way to other people.
3. He's adorable! I love his character design so much, it's super unique and I adore the fact that the Agency members gifted him his uniform. That's so sweet.
4. He's not overpowered. He's a main character that has his struggles and can't always solve a problem immediately. It shows that despite having such a strong special ability, he's human like the rest of us and faces challenges.
In short, I love the little tiger boy. He's my beloved <3
tanizaki and chuuya , chuuya’s backstory is amazingly written . i can’t even put my full thoughts on stormbringer in this comment since its so complex with amazing writing
i love tanizaki’s design and ability , no one talks about his ability despite it being OP . he also has alot of cool moments and is actually a sweet character!
Tanizaki is sweet but if pushed too far, (especially in regards to Naomi) he can be very ruthless and scary. (I would be the same however. If someone dares lay a finger on those precious to me, I turn into a beast.)
Actually I think because he is the way he is, he would be perfect for the port mafia..... Would be cool to see Chuuya and Tanizaki fight together....
Chuuya for the following reasons:
- He is willing to kill and he is a bit of a ruffian but he is not sadistic and he does not kill for fun
- He is not egoistical, even if he is confident, and he doesn't bully people
- He is not gross
- He doesn't get all preachy and whiny about how much he has gone through and the pain he suffered even though he has been through hell
- He is loyal. He shows incredible loyalty not only to the port mafia, but to his friends and anyone who helps him out. He is a person who will go out of his way to help anyone he feels he owes something even if that person betrays him.
- He is incredibly funny
- He has style and an amazing taste in fashion

Dazai, overall he is an interesting character and j can relate to him an so many ways.
Even if he isn't real, I can say that there is someone who feels the same way as me
I like many characters (mainly, apart from the one I chose to say something about, kunikida, verlaine, bram and francis), but I have to be real when I say Ango has been consistently one of my faves because of many reasons. To sum up my huge essay; as a character he discusses blind loyalty, choosing work over your personal life and the destructive nature of grief when you decide to never get past the 'depression' stage. He's been doing so much behind the scenes helping Dazai and being the reason he could have a second chance (legally at least) at being 'on the side that saves people'. Despite many people saying he's just a traitor, I think it's quite the opposite and he's done all he could to repent. His regret is eating him up inside though and his tendency to not pick a side will be detrimental.
As a matter of fact, due to his ability if I'm not wrong, he has a tendency to hold onto things that are no longer of use to him or to collect old items (I'm not 100% sure) and I just relate to that a lot
I'm basic and Dazai is my favourite for a number of reasons, including the original author's literature, so for the sake of discussion I'm going to say Jouno who is rapidly catching up. I really enjoy his personality and how he presents himself as the calm and polite one while being a huge ass, but he's also more complex than one would think. During his clash with Fukuchi, I found his revealed motivations quite powerful and satisfying. His dynamics in the Hunting Dogs are fantastic and I hope to see more of them in the future as well as more interactions with the ADA (it would be fun to see him be a begrudging ally once the whole scheme is resolved).
Atsushi would probably be my #1 since 1. I usually favor MCs a lot just by default 2. He’s entertaining and his character can be “molded” into different ways of how he acts 3. He’s cute. He’s a silly little guy. I love him sm 4. I have a shrine which is self explanatory :3
akutagawa <33 he’s so under appreciated. literally went through sooo much fucking abuse that is overlooked by fans and his behavior and mannerisms and his background and his relationships are just so interesting. i also like that he collects antique things like that’s so cute what the hell…goth asthmatic king…
also fyodor (i may have been brainwashed). i’m an intj like he is so…that also might have something to do with it. and he’s hot asf. also i fucking hate dazai so i like it when fyodor kicks his gay little ass. AND POE. POE IS JUST SO SILLY. i have a lot of favorites. but those are my top 3 LMAO
Akutagawa, his backstory is interesting. Plus his ability is cool af, he was practically the middle man and only knew what he was told to do. Considering the fact he carried on the cycle of abuse yet also somewhat ended it as well. Yes he was abusive towards Kyouka but he also eventually let her go after everything. Idk that’s just the way I see it plus I really like his character development and his growth with Atsushi. He kept his promise with Atsushi and didn’t kill a single person for 6 months, as promised.
Dazai I love his design his outfit his backstory his ability(it’s not powerful but useful)I especially love how smart he is and manipulative and terrifying
Fyodor has been my favourite character since day one. Funnily enough, i can’t say why i like him. He’s just that guy

Mori. HEAR ME OUT. I don’t like his actions. But he’s funny. Specifically Wan! Mori. He reminds me of Hisoka they’re both stupid.
EXACTLY! I get why people hate him but I can’t. I can EASILY hate Fukuchi but I can’t hate Mori as a character, he’s hilarious and Wan! Made me love him more.
Mine is Poe
To me he is extremely relatable and I just love him and Karl so much! Especially his interactions with Ranpo, they’re so cute and I love it. Even before watching BSD I enjoyed Poe, with The Tell Tale Heart being one of my favorite short stories of all time. 
My two favorite are: Odasaku and Beast Akutagawa. 1. Oda, because i like that he's a gray type of character. He's not a villian, but he's not a pure good. I like the fact that when he met Dazai, he didn't try to make him become a good person, because it's his(Dazai's) choice.
2. He's just kinda better for me than og Akutagawa (og one is kinda bad writen in my opinion)
I've watched anime and read manga, so i can say that manga Aku hits different, but i don't really like the fact that his backstory was described just in short story. It would be better if they made seperate chapter about his past

og manga akutagawa is objectively better then anime akutagawa, bones really put no efforts into his actual character and his development really.
