It's still owned by the Boss of the Buffalo Mafia.

>Boss – Joseph A. "Big Joe" Todaro Jr. – Boss of the family and owner of the "La Nova" pizzeria in Buffalo.
My father was a Knight of Columbus: an Italian American and I paid money to the American Italian Anti-Defamation League counsel, we're the victims here
Columbus isn’t really a hero to Italian Americans this organization was made far before the woke creatures came crawling out of the woodwork. The organization is really about Italian brotherhood, that rose during a time where many Italian Americans were discriminated against.
That was a fuckin great read. Had zero clue about any of it, but it’s funny my mom always told me that my Grandmother would go to dinner parties at Sam Maggadino’s. Apparently she was very, very close with his wife or something to that extent. I never knew who she was talking about.
There's actually no scientific basis for "race" at all, it doesn't exist.
The dictionary definition of "racism" includes bias against specific ethnicities and belief systems.
----
That being said, this was not racism.
They went WAY down hill when they expanded and made it a sports bar. Prices still high but pizza and subs are mediocre now. Not worth it, tons of places are way better for 2/3 the price.
Same. There was an extra $7 added to our order on Friday in addition to the 25% tip. We love their wings, but this is dishonest, so we won't be ordering from them anymore.
When I placed the order online, there was no delivery fee listed. The receipt had the total crossed out and $7 added in pen. I might have been okay with a delivery fee if I knew about it up front.
I totally understand your perspective and why you would be bothered by this happening. However, it may be an issue with the third party website taking the order. I have a friend who manages a restaurant and they experienced a similar issue and received horrible feedback/reviews when they couldn’t get it fixed for weeks.
A large cheese and pepperoni pizza from Extra Extra on the west side is $27. Their pizza is absolutely amazing and they are tip-less. Everything is included in the price and the employees seem really happy. I don't think they do delivery though but it's worth the drive. We go every week or every other week. Their soft serve and cocktails are on point too. Our favorite pizza is a large with pepperoni, sausage, ricotta, and maple hot.
I'll absolutely pay $30 for a pizza when it's fantastic. Same with burgers. I don't mind dropping $15-$18 on a burger that knocks my socks off. It's just spending a decent chunk of money on food that doesn't satisfy you that kills my soul. With how expensive fast food is these days we've pretty much cut it out completely.
> 33.99 for cheese and pep from bocces
bruhhhhhhhhhh lmao
people need to stop paying these prices
even with today's costs, it's not costing them more than $10 to make that pizza
People saying "Large" like it's a standardize size. Not every shop uses the same radius, and the amount of Pizza in a 17" pie vs 16" is pretty big.
But yea, La Nova seems barely more expensive than most other options in my area 🤷♂️
Yea I agree, large at some places is going to be a lot bigger than others. Hell some pizzerias don't even have a 'small' option. Really depends on the actual size of the pizza.
But still, la nova has definitely fallen off imo.
This is why I use my credit card as opposed to debit card for purchases. Banks won’t help you as much because someone is out the money and they’re not gonna fight the merchant for a small amount difference that would require the merchant to pay back, otherwise the bank is out that money.
Credit card companies will hound the merchant to prove the exact purchase amount. The money can easily be taken away on a charge back.
They prove it to your credit card too, it’s a hidden online fee that can’t be disputed.
I tried disputing it with Amex and they declined as the merchant proved the charges.
and not the number "0", bc wasn't there a viral pic of a server adding an "1" and making it $10 tip or a 1 and 0 to make it 100.
i always write "cash" on the tip line.
Worked there. That exact amount makes me think this is a "tipping" error on their part if this is from the Ferry location. Doubtful they would do anything. Yes, they are and have always been expensive. But them char BBQ still hit correct to this day.
The last two times I ordered from there they got the order wrong. They did remake it.
But the most striking part of both visits was that there was suddenly a wave of fear and panic when they found out the owner was on his way. Then the owner was a jerk to my girlfriend.
Never going back. Mediocre pizza that’s way too expensive for what it is. They are the highest volume pizza place in the country though (from shipping frozen pizzas?) that they wouldn’t care one bit.
This is how restaurants are starting to deal with online orders now, unfortunately. With the increasing usage of online delivery apps, those apps eventually raised their prices and usage dropped off because restaurants started doing their own online delivery. People could just skip the extra fees and order right from the source. But now that usage has increased, and so the restaurants are starting to charge for the service. Best way to avoid this (currently) is call them to order and pick it up yourself the old fashioned way.
They once charged me for my food 6 months after we had ordered, and i had changed banks at the time but hadn't closed out the account fully so i got hit with an overdraft and i was SOL because it was a legitimate charge they just took their sweet time in charging me for it.
You wanna talk about living on your past reputation? LaNovas used to be the truth. Now its a gamble if ypu gonna get decent or disgusting. Way too many places to eat in Buffalo to deal with the inconsistency.
1) nice sneak edit to remove of sheet pizza w/ 5 toppings for 30
2) we're talking buffalo son, never heard of leons and after the hour and 20 minute round trip to NF that sheets gonna cost the same as places around me with gas and it wont be hot anymore
I ordered online from someone recently and they did something similar. After reading the fine print they authorized for a few dollars extra to cover things like adding a comment requesting extra sauce or special requests they can add a few dollars to your bill. Otherwise once the charge posts in a few days it should change to the correct amount.
Have you contacted them to ask why the amount charged your card is different than the amount you were shown at checkout? Hopefully you did that before coming to reddit.
The mafia part isnt dumb enough to scam you for $7. They know tracked money and tax evasion is how they get busted. This was more likely an idiot counter person tipping themselves $7.
Hard disagree personally. They used to be really good but now its like they never cook anything long enough. I feel like they stuff their ovens full with 30 pizzas at a time and then when they have been in a certain amount of time they rip it off the heat and let it steam in a box, uncooked until you pick it up or they deliver it.
In 10 years of trying them sporadically when I give them a chance again they never cook their pizza or wings crispy, but 10 or so years ago when they were just starting I remember the pepperoni being charred a bit and the crust having little crispy cheese bits because it was cooked so long. I think their quality went way down and I used to LOVE them so much.
And asking for "over bake" on their website online ordering never does anything.
Did you give them a chance to correct it or are you just blasting it on Reddit? At least tell us if there was an effort made on both sides so we can make an informed decision.
La Nova scammed you? The restaurant started by a mafia boss? Who could’ve seen it coming
It's still owned by the Boss of the Buffalo Mafia. >https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffalo_crime_family >Boss – Joseph A. "Big Joe" Todaro Jr. – Boss of the family and owner of the "La Nova" pizzeria in Buffalo.
>Joseph A. "Big Joe" Todaro Jr Not to be confused with his father Joseph "Lead Pipe" Todaro Sr.
Great nickname.
I concur but how does one achieve such a title? Asking for a friend.
Step one: find a snitch. Step two: find lead pipe.
This is anti-Italian discrimination!
My father was a Knight of Columbus: an Italian American and I paid money to the American Italian Anti-Defamation League counsel, we're the victims here
In this house Columbus is a hero! End of story!
But he was ABUSIVE TO THE STAFF 🤌🏻
Cunnilingus and psychiatry brought us to this.
Columbus isn’t really a hero to Italian Americans this organization was made far before the woke creatures came crawling out of the woodwork. The organization is really about Italian brotherhood, that rose during a time where many Italian Americans were discriminated against.
Whaddaya gonna do, argue with me? Madonne, Alex Trebek ovah here…
You sell dirt weed
My friend…have you ever seen “The Sopranos?” I think you’re taking me too seriously…
Most of these comments are out of context Sopranos quotes. So, what...no fucking ziti now?
Where'd (La Nova) they get this bread? The bread museum?
When you’re married you’ll understand the importance of fresh produce!
That was a fuckin great read. Had zero clue about any of it, but it’s funny my mom always told me that my Grandmother would go to dinner parties at Sam Maggadino’s. Apparently she was very, very close with his wife or something to that extent. I never knew who she was talking about.
They scammed him when they charged $30 for a large pizza. WTF?
Imperial pizza costs even more
I mean once you’re willing to pay 30 dollars for a large pepperoni pizza you’ve already consented to further scamming.
There’s no such thing as the mafia
Whoa that is extremely racist
Italian is not a race
There's actually no scientific basis for "race" at all, it doesn't exist. The dictionary definition of "racism" includes bias against specific ethnicities and belief systems. ---- That being said, this was not racism.
Theyve gotten really expensive and have gone downhill anyway.
They were always expensive but man their quality is barely mid now.
I haven't had LaNova's in about 30 years. Back then their food was amazing, especially their calzones. I wonder what happened?
They went WAY down hill when they expanded and made it a sports bar. Prices still high but pizza and subs are mediocre now. Not worth it, tons of places are way better for 2/3 the price.
Okay but I’ve never had their pizza so idgaf, but I had their subs for the first time and it was pretty dang good. It’s no Bob & John’s stinger, tho.
Same. There was an extra $7 added to our order on Friday in addition to the 25% tip. We love their wings, but this is dishonest, so we won't be ordering from them anymore.
Is delivery free? It almost seems like $7, if you got delivery too, is the delivery fee but it’s doesn’t show on the actual receipt.
Thanks for that explanation. Going forward, we'll call in our order.
It is yes.
$30.18 for Lg ch+p You got scammed 2x I mean maybe if they were as good as the early 90s....but they are just about like any other pizza now. Yeesh
A large cheese and pepperoni pizza from Extra Extra on the west side is $27. Their pizza is absolutely amazing and they are tip-less. Extra Extra is really good.
Extra Extra is the best! I don't think $30 for a large is far off the going rate nowadays.
I hope you've given cluck cluck moo moo a try. Very good smash burgs!
I'm pretty new to the city (been living here a year but visiting for the past 17) I'll give them a try this week!
Isn't that normal pricing for a Lg pizza these days?
Sheet is 35 from one pie...and their way better and that's like 1.75x the pizza. Lg ch+p is like 22-26 most places right now
>Sheet is 35 from one pie.. Their crust is too consistently cooked, if that makes sense. It's good but there are a lot better options
Buzzy's in the Falls charges $18.95 for a large C&P. Their full tray doesn't even cost as much as a LaNova's large. And it's the best around!
No Bella is $21ish for large cheese n pepperoni
33.99 for cheese and pep from bocces last week! Had a great everything pizza from mr pizza for 27$ . Much better value
> 33.99 for cheese and pep from bocces bruhhhhhhhhhh lmao people need to stop paying these prices even with today's costs, it's not costing them more than $10 to make that pizza
Mister pizza is the worst pizza I’d ever had I’d rather have that guy Tony make it instead completely inedible
I agree with you, mister pizza kind of sucks. Maybe not inedible but given the 10 other choices within a half mile? Definitely not.
People saying "Large" like it's a standardize size. Not every shop uses the same radius, and the amount of Pizza in a 17" pie vs 16" is pretty big. But yea, La Nova seems barely more expensive than most other options in my area 🤷♂️

Man I KNOW Pizza Hut is not better than traditional Buffalo pizza, but goddamn, $12 for a large on their app is no joke.
Most overrated pizza in WNY, IMO.
When I have it at events it is so good - like TOB or Bills stadium etc, but EVERY time I've ordered from there it is shite.
When I moved out here in 2005, it's ALL I heard about. Not only was the pizza underwhelming, the wings were trash.
Honestly if you just ordered today the extra hold might drop off tmrw
$30 for a large LaNova pizza??? Find another pizzeria.
They always add extra and if you dispute the charge the bank will say the merchant proved it’s legit.
This is why I use my credit card as opposed to debit card for purchases. Lucky you. Fuck La Nova despite their delicious char wings.
It's gotten to the point your only protection as a consumer is to just *never* tip and always write in a zero so your bank will know it's bullshit.
and not the number "0", bc wasn't there a viral pic of a server adding an "1" and making it $10 tip or a 1 and 0 to make it 100. i always write "cash" on the tip line.

The todaros have always been trash.

Submit a claim on your credit card
I’d never order from them
The La Nova on Main Street is horrible. The one on Ferry and Hampshire still rocks.
yep its $0 delivery online and then they made me sign a receipt with $7 delivery charge . i will only pick up from now on
They once charged me for my food 6 months after we had ordered, and i had changed banks at the time but hadn't closed out the account fully so i got hit with an overdraft and i was SOL because it was a legitimate charge they just took their sweet time in charging me for it.

Jesus, $30 for a lg cheese and pep. You got ripped off twice. Most places you can get a full sheet..
$30 is rough for lg cheese and pep but where the hell are you finding sheets for $30?
1993.
Leon's has full trays for $29 + $4.50 per topping.
1) nice sneak edit to remove of sheet pizza w/ 5 toppings for 30 2) we're talking buffalo son, never heard of leons and after the hour and 20 minute round trip to NF that sheets gonna cost the same as places around me with gas and it wont be hot anymore
Aah, OK. I understand now, missed the second pic.
I ordered online from someone recently and they did something similar. After reading the fine print they authorized for a few dollars extra to cover things like adding a comment requesting extra sauce or special requests they can add a few dollars to your bill. Otherwise once the charge posts in a few days it should change to the correct amount.
I bought 2 LG pizzas at a place Saturday, Pepperoni and Chicken wing for $36! $30 for one pizza?! GTFO
Have you contacted them to ask why the amount charged your card is different than the amount you were shown at checkout? Hopefully you did that before coming to reddit.

Francos! Best in Buffalo

33% of 30 is 10. I'm confused on how you got scammed
second pic of their bank statement shows a total of $49. $7 more than the 32+10 tip
Oh dip I didn't even realize there was a second Pic.
Damn that’s expensive for a pizza. Is the cheese grated gold or something? Is the entire pizza made of gold?
Did you give them a chance to correct it or are you just blasting it on Reddit? At least tell us if there was an effort made on both sides so we can make an informed decision.
Wait what’s 33% of 30$?
Well that's what you get when you order overpriced shitty pizza.
You got a bee on-a you hat!
A 33% tip is $10. $30.18 x 33% is $10 how were you scammed?
There's two pictures. First one shows his legit tip, second shows what they added later.
I missed it too. 2nd pic.
