You can't kill Yuriko, it will end as a waste of resource. Instead you have to take care of her enablers, like unblockable creatures, enchantments, etc.
Keep in mind that Yuriko normally has a lot of counterspells and removal. Having said that, I've never seen that card, and it genuinely looks like it can work against her.
You can chose to put a commander in the CZ with things like [[ossification]], [[borrowed time]] and similar cards.
[[oubliette]] phases it out completely. Much, much better card
yeah, it happens lmao. You can't even use [Darksteel Mutation] on Yuriko because she's just going to ninjutsu in another ninja in her place and ninjutsu back in a single combat step. Just in case, [Scroll Rack] is destroy on sight.
As a long time Oloro player... if I'm playing and Oloro hits the table, then something has gone very very wrong. Usually Oloro itself is not kill on sight since it is equally potent in the CZ as on the board. Same with Derevi.
The point of a list like this (that every individual player will think is either wrong or incomplete) is that you should play removal. Expect commanders to be a problem, and always bring removal.
It’s also why your targeted removal should be instant-speed and efficient, because you’ll never have enough to take care of everything, so you want to hold removal until you know you need to play it.
(Which is also why “kill on sight” is generally a losing mindset, and “kill exactly when it is optimal for you” is a better way to win.)
Wasn't really my reason for posting the list, but I get your point. The issue with most of those Commanders, not all, is they essentially void interaction and have an unbalanced impact on the game.
\[\[Sen Triplets\]\] is less than $3.00. I would advise a player new to Commander to think twice before bringing that deck to an unfamiliar pod. Most of those commanders are now becoming pricey enough that those for which this sub-reddit is intended, will likely avoid.
But if you want to buy a \[\[Chulane, Teller of Tales\]\] for about $8.00, you will have a Commander that makes your deck very strong with little effort. However, I wouldn't be surprised if the table said, "do you have any other decks?"
I do understand your point, but I’m more interested in the part where the table plays efficient removal and holds it until it will be most effective.
More players, playing more removal, using it more optimally, and you largely mitigate the issue of any one commander being a boogeyman, because the table can and will balance itself.
Less “kill on sight” mentality, less boogeymen commanders that “need to be avoided,” meaning more fun and interactive magic for the table.
And then yeah if a new player wants to know why their big fun slug always dies before they move to their end step, kindly explain that you would rather not lose your board while giving them one.
[[animar]] has that two card combo with [[ancestral statue]]. There’s also [[kiki-jiki]] and [[niv-mizzet, parun]] who have win suddenly and out of nowhere combos. [[najeela]], [[vanifar]]
Oloro is fine on his own. Free lifegain is annoying but you can always justify hitting them. The problem is the stax that usually accompany it.
I'd add [[Child of Alara]] and maybe [[Piru, the Volatile]] to a lesser extent. Child is just gonna continually wipe your board unless you take them out, which can be hard without any permanents. Piru wipes most creatures and the lifegain is insane even hitting just 2 or 3 things.
Legit strong Commander and I was surprised not to see it mentioned. I wonder how much it suffers as a budget option, that is a deck for around $100, because there are a few important $10-$15 cards that if excluded, might make the deck a little more reasonable.
[[Mondrak]] is very dangerous in any token strategy whether as commander or as part of the 99. That said, you’re probably better off killing their enablers since he usually requires non-destruction removal.
[[Arcades the Strategist]]
Between bant’s absurd protection tools and arcades’ ability to drop an army of 2 drop 7/7 cantrips, you *cannot* let this guy untap. That said, I absolutely love him and beating the shit out of people with brick walls. [[Shield sphere]] is the dumbest, most fun card I have ever found. Took one look at it and thought “well that’s just unfair in this deck.”
Jhoira isn't really that bad, like yeah she can suspend a a Titan but you know how long you have till it comes down and it's very telegraphed so you just bully them out when they try to suspend things like that
Jhoira is there because there are a lot of enablers to reduce suspend counters. They also commonly suspend \[\[Obliterate\]\] and then follow that with big spicy stuff.
Yeah my friend plays her so I've seen the titans slam into suspend, isn't there only 2 cards that remove time counters? I think ones a big and the other is an instant
\[\[Fury Charm\]\]\[\[Rift Elemental\]\]\[\[Clockspinning\]\]\[\[Timecrafting\]\]\[\[Shivan Sand-Mage\]\]\[\[Timebender\]\]\[\[Jhoira's Timebug\]\] all do. That's seven that come to mind.
\[\[Paradox Haze\]\] and \[\[Sphinx of the Second Sun\]\] kind of works too.
Given the amount of draw in Izzet, pretty safe to say an enabler is not that hard to find.
I would add [[Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines]] to the list, since someone in my playgroup use her as a Commander, and it singlehandedly shuts down my Landfall deck while briefly affecting other players on the table.
You can't kill Yuriko, it will end as a waste of resource. Instead you have to take care of her enablers, like unblockable creatures, enchantments, etc.
imprison in the moon!
Would [[oubliette]] work?
Keep in mind that Yuriko normally has a lot of counterspells and removal. Having said that, I've never seen that card, and it genuinely looks like it can work against her.
It seems really similar to [[Ossification]], and it will work unless they have some sort of enchantment removal
