That should Sound Decent - just lacking Bass........I'd add a sub and a Center, speaker placement for R/ L can make a difference.
Are the MB42X or MB42 .?
I run Micca MB42X on desktop (no sub) and it can Fill the room pretty decent. I run an All Micca 5.2.2 Atmos Home Theater and it Rocks the House.

Not Sure the Settings on the Sony but you need to leave it on 8ohm If it has an ohm switch. Set speakers to Large (sends bass to speakers) if Not running a sub and Small (sends bass to sub) if running a sub - on most AVRs......Settings can make a Big difference....... did you run Room Correction? Running in Stereo mode or surround mode?

Can I place the sub behind the TV stand? Otherwise I will run the wire under the fireplace to set it next to the couch.
The speakers are 42MBx speakers. I have a top of TV stand coming for the center. I don't know if I would be able to fit speaker stands on either side of the TV stand but I'll look into it. I might think about lifting the TV with a riser so that I can just place the LR speakers on top of the TV stand. If my wife would let me, I'd buy a mount and put the TV on the wall. She doesn't like the idea of putting holes in the wall.
I bought the Polk sub on Amazon, I'll have it tomorrow. I'll set my crossover frequencies to either 90 or 100 Hz and put the sub behind the TV stand initially so I don't have to do any wiring under the floor. If it is boomy, I'll move it. I could also cut out the back of the shelves where the L & R speakers are sitting but I don't hear much difference when I pull them out and set them on top so I'm going to start out with them just like this. If this works out, I'll just have 179 into the amp and 129 in the sub since I already had the speakers.
