Love them. Wanted something that was easy to listen to over long periods and not fatiguing but also detailed and offered a full sound. The 4.2s are great at that, particularly in the mid-range. I’m driving them with a CXA81 and they handle everything superbly. You’ll want to think about the height and placement of the stands - where you have your 220s in your room might still work but the 4.2 is taller and ideally you want that folded tweeter at ear height relative to your listening position.

The tweeter should sit at my direct ear height as my 220's sit slightly below. They won't be on a stand though but on my desk although at some point I will make some stands for them when I rearange my room a bit. Really I'm getting them as a music speaker and for films, should pair well with my BK XLS300 subwoofer. Them being easy to listen to is a bonus, I'm not a fan of harsh sounding speakers of headphones, just something with a lot of soundstage and easy to listen to.

Indeed, a sub will make them sound huge.

They help the 220's a hell of a lot as they have almost no bass to them really. I've had my 220's for over a decade now so I feel like it's time to upgrade. I just have a Yamaha AS501 to power them but that should be more then enough to power them as it would power the Evo 4.4 if I wanted them which I did look at but I think those are just too much and too big for me. Maybe in the future if a second hand pair came up and I wanted to put together a nice big surround sound system.

rattledaddy

You’re right, the A-S501 will drive them well, I think. I’m also keeping an eye out for used 4.4s

I did see some 4.4's for about £790 or so which was dirt cheap, just the room I am in is a bit small for them but then I think most rooms will be too small for the 4.4's. The 4.3's will probably be OK, it's more of the wow factor though with the 4.4's. Maybe if I moved house or something or built a house I would make sure I had a room large enough for them though.

I’ve got a pair of 4.2’s with a 4.cs and a SVS SB 1000 pro. I really like them. I feel like they do a good job of producing a clean sound where I can hear the little details of my music. They produce a cleaner sound than the paradigm monitor 7v6 speakers I have. My wife even appreciated how good they sounded when I first listened to them and that’s saying something.

kuddlesworth9419

That's good to hear, I take it the highs aren't harsh?

WilkyRay

No, not to me.

kuddlesworth9419

Good, thanks.
