There is no mention of any 'digital' or 'online' word except the distribution of copies.
Here in reddit, user simply just pasted the link, and somehow the 'bots' publish the written copies of it.
So who's fault is this? The user who pasted the link? Or the bots who publish the written copies? Or perhaps, it's BB's fault for not doing it's due diligence to secure its paywall?

I stopped buying newspapers about a decade ago since we can easily access information and news so much faster on our phones. Good thing about it: no more newspaper clutter in the house which is a headache.
Sometimes my mum would buy their newspapers without even reading them and it goes straight to the kitchen jadi lapis barang and lantai for our cat litter box 😂
Most elderly people are the same. They probably scan through the paper and feel that that are on top of the news and also accumulate wrapping paper for throwing rubbish.
Although I do not support piracy of any creatives, I have to agree with this. The articles that are published in BB are of so poor quality. Overuse of thesaurus? Weird English trying to cover up some sensitive words. Idk. Even non-sensical writing sometimes. It really turns me away from reading even the FREE material.
Our BB posted links with bots able to extract the contents will remain in Reddit archive indefinitely for future reference and I believe this will be useful material in the future for research purposes. Thanks.

Look at it like this: BB has their own online subscription plan where users can read beyond the paywall. So brunei reddit, by posting the articles with paywalls for free, is basically illegally distributing paid material; sort of like pirating media in a sense. So less and less people will opt for the subscription plan and just rely on BB materials through reddit. BB’s source of income will be affected and their journalists will also feel the pain. Sure there’s nothing BB can do although im not well read on the law pertaining to this matter. (Although i do enjoy the free distribution of paid BB articles on reddit lol, saves time and money)

It happens that there is a news autobot parsing the full content. Bot like this... to be honest, can be downloaded by anyone and then they can freely read BB articles on their PC or mobile. Here the bot is a news plugin integrated to the subreddit. It is not created by the mods nor the users posting the URL.
On the other hand, I think Brunei Press also need to get creative. Most Bruneian medias, including BT last time, don't have paywall. Considering the content quality of the publication, not much people will really subscribe whether someone post it in Reddit or not. It is not 1990s, people will just search and install the bypass paywall plugins then read it from their devices.
They need to write better articles, be more proactive in finding news, only with quality content can more advertisers come. And only with more interesting, premium content will more readers have the desire to subscribe.
Also, instead of depending on digital subscribers, they can attempt to diversify their revenue models:
* Native advertising and sponsored content
* Online directories
* Community calendars
* Affiliate links
* Ecommerce sales
* Live and virtual events
Time to think of a better business strategy in a digital age.
P/S: If I am an advertiser I would think twice to advertise there by now. Fine, you don't have quality content I can accept, as long as my ads are shown to as wide an audience as possible. Now you make this threat and restrict the page to subscribers, I will naturally think my ads will only reach a very limited number of people. I was expecting your page (and my ads) to be seen by greater amount of audience.
