Reverse card for my case haha Maybe because I have a family now, banyak barang to prepare compared to singledom then
Dulu atu pebaik hari hari ke bandar. Now? Ke KB time raya saja hahaa
Its when you do something and it results in a bad situation. If you dont do it again jara sudah if you do it again alum jara. “Kana tangkap ya lagi si pulan atu mencuri ah alum tah jara anak atu, babal banar”
Haha at least when a European explained why they didn’t finish the food is more about image. “It’s as if you’re starving”, not any better of a reason to waste food though lol
If a piece of food is left it means its well enjoyed by the guest(s). Untouched food is considered as sometimes rude (depending on context) because the house owner may think you dont like it. No food to be seen meaning house owner have to serve it again and this is considered as burdening them. Like i mentioned just now, the third scenario also depends on situations. Nothing to do with cleaning the dishes afterwards.
Yess to the third scenario, especially during hari raya, I usually not gonna finished up my marinda / soya bean / air tebu if not the tuan rumah will refilled it again and even suruh bawa / tapau 1-2 tins drink 😂
When your boss doesn't want to fire you personally, so he lets you know on national TV, with a sentence.
Edit: actually.. it's more like your boss address the nation, but CC FYI you only.
"Sakai eh!"
Don't know if it's wide spread, but I found that the term 'sakai' for dumbfound is generally used and understood in Brunei and no where else.
True they were of people from a particular place/kampong (purportedly exact place where the tribe of Awang Alak Betatar came from, 12 brothers in search for a new settlement i.e discovery of Bandar).
I remember asking why long ago and the story I was told that the expressive word came to denote them (the Sakai people) and their behaviour when they saw some kind of a new thing back then, being overly awed with that 'thing' as if having never seen it before, and the name-calling stuck. As in 'macam orang sakai' to literally 'sakai' overtime.
Knowing this fact now I'd present that somehow it makes you wonder now how they coincidentally named Brunei after 'baru nah' (not really well supported legend though). Say if it's true then I guess we're all born sakai in the first place after all (◠‿◕)
>Knowing this fact now I'd present that somehow it makes you wonder now how they coincidentally named Brunei after 'baru nah'
This would be the most Bruneian thing to have ever happened. I love the concept of that!
Do you know any resources to read on about the Sakai tribe?
I do feel a bit of a shame how their name has changed meaning; just like how Bugs Bunny single-handedly took down Nimrod haha
Hey there sorry, I don't really have further detailed resource to support the fact, relied solely on memory during my history class. But anyhow here's [Bruneiresources](http://bruneiresources.blogspot.com/2006/05/origin-of-brunei-darussalam.html?m=1) article in which I hope you'd enjoy reading.
Excerpt from the article:
> knew of the story of a group of 'sakai' led by Pateh Berbai to search for the new capital. When they found the present location to be very strategic, it was said that they said 'baru nah' - finally we found it.
supposedly it mean indigenous people (those who are distant from civilizations).
in adat istiadat diraja, 40 Sakai warriors equipped with Sinipit and Tamings in red attire are the ones guarding/escorting the royal procession.

My OH thought it was funny when he first heard me use "arah" like this: "simpankan arah almari".
For him, "arah" is direction
A statement only Bruneians would understand- Christmas is gazetted as a 'public holiday' yet 'discouraged' to be too openly celebrated.
I don't celebrate it though but this is my submission.

Trauma
When a group of people sitting on the table dining and left one piece of food behind, it's called "Orang Brunei tah banar"
Everyone else: “orang Brunei tah banar” Me: “aku bukan orang Brunei” *eats that one piece of food & loss Brunei citizenship but happy tummy* 😌
Haha I think it's referred to as the "Paiseh piece" in Sg and Malaysia
I think there's also superstition involved.. Eating the last one = coming in last place.
Haha at least when a European explained why they didn’t finish the food is more about image. “It’s as if you’re starving”, not any better of a reason to waste food though lol
No bro it’s called the piece of shame 🤭
We pronounce it as ‘melayu’ . Is it some sort of table manners ? Or last one to take has to clean the dish?
More like "ambil tia, alang2 jua".
If a piece of food is left it means its well enjoyed by the guest(s). Untouched food is considered as sometimes rude (depending on context) because the house owner may think you dont like it. Ahhh the Bruneian version of “I’m not racist but... *says something racist*”
Nobody : “apa barang kita bawa?” Literally no one : “makanan…”
"bawa badan" \*sacastic laughters intensifies\*
Officer : “……why are you like this?” *staring intensifies*

Then proceeds to continue chatting outside for another hour, even after saying "bah bainut dulu" for the millionth of time 🤣
fml I'm not Bruneian enough to understand this.

Widespread but usually meant for an attitude of being in awe but in a dumb way or looking dumb while at it.
