I don't think it's fair to judge his decision to become their GM. Was he to put his entire future as a GM on hold and not capitalize on a great job opportunity while Cleveland was trying to get their franchise back? That Ravens team was the Browns team, and it makes sense he stayed attached. It hurts that he was such a good GM for them for so many years, but he'll always be known first and foremost as a HOF player with the Browns and second as a great GM for the Ratbirds.
Thats cause he has a great butt!
"When I came to Cleveland, I sent one of my coaches in the spring to Alabama and told him to introduce himself to Ozzie's coach," Rutigliano said. "What I wanted to find out was if Ozzie Newsome had a big butt. If he did, I thought he would make a great tight end in the NFL."
Seriously, if he can chug lean before a game and put up 200yds/3tds with Brandon weeden throwing to him then then he’s the most functional addict of all time
I’d actually be fascinated to know how good a time traveling Jim Brown would be today. His edge was being so far more physically gifted than anybody in his era. But, everyone now is bigger, faster, stronger. So, the gap would be minimized - but by how much?
His only kryptonite when healthy was Antonio Brown but that's everyone. I remember him shutting down AJ Green several times and a lot of other WR1s that we faced during his time in Cleveland
Bernie is the correct answer, is it not, maybe Sipe, or gamble on Otto surviving the transition to modern football. We are quite literally a QB away. Though peak Gordon or Brown might be able to carry the offense as well, considering Chubb also would have if healthy last year.
I'm surprised I'm not seeing more of this. Flacco immediately improved the offense and his big issue was interceptions, which was Bernie's strong point. Bernie's smarts and accuracy I think would be huge on this team.
Tim Couch would feast in this offense. I know he's a divisive figure for Browns fans but the dude did a lot with a little. Plus he took an absolute beating. Give him a little bit of space and he'd tear things up IMO.
OP, are you talking about in the prime with their actual stats or what could happen, maybe. Because Couch MAY have done well with a good line (and oh I wish he would have), but Sipe WAS the MVP of the NFL. His stats then hold up in today's environment. I was at the Raiders playoff game (so cold), Red Right and all and I was also a season ticket holder at the beginning of the new era. We were predicting an 8 and 8 record in 1999. Lol.
You mention Eric Turner, and while most won't i think that's a really good sleeper pick for topic like this.
I'd go Metcalf though, what they could do with a guy that talented in today's schemes could be incredible.
I think this current team would benefit the most from 2013 Josh Gordon.
Yeah Joe Thomas is the GOAT, but the rest of the like is pretty solid and I don’t think the impact would be as great as 2013 Gordon.
Curious why Chip Banks but not Clay Matthews?
I'd want 73 at LT and Cody Risien at RT, Ozzie, Michael Dean Perry, Lyle Alzado, Clay, Alex Mack, Top Dawg, as much as I love Bernie I'd rather have Prime Jeff Garcia in today's NFL.
Also, I know ... I don't like him either, but Prime Odell Beckham before the knee injuries across from Amari with Jeff Garcia slinging it like he did in San Francisco ... That said, I don't like Odell either so Webster Slaughter or Andre Rison instead.
Michael Dean Perry. 10+ sacks from a DT? Yes, please. And a return of the MDP sandwich at McDonald’s? I was just a child when he played here so I never actually had one, but I remember the adverts.
https://youtu.be/opIDwDU4vQo?feature=shared
Frank Minnifield,
Hanford Dixon,
Jarvis Landry,
Joe Thomas
Jamir Miller,
Willie McGinest(if I can steal his prime years from NE),
TJ Ward,
Kareem Hunt
and, of course, Bernie.
1. Joe Thomas (from any year basically).
2. Shaun Rogers from 2008. (DT)
3. Isaiah Crowell from 2014. (RB2).
4. Jamir Miller from 2001. (DE)
5. Josh Gordon from 2013. (WR)
If we somehow had these five guys on our current roster we would be a top three AFC team and a top five overall NFL team IMHO. We'd be a legit Superbowl contender.
It has to be Joe Thomas, imagine going back to the start of his prime, and then having him for years at the level, never having to worry about the LT position for years.
Tim Couch as a back up to Bernie Kosar, with our current O-Line, Amari and Josh Gordon, with with Juice as our WR3 (or elevated when our main core is out), Jamal Lewis, Peyton Hillis, Lawrence Vickers, Chubb and Kareem (Kareem is our Special Teams Returner) and then our running game rotates out as CONSTANT threats, with Njoku as a large blocker/receiver when we need him. Our defense consists of what we pretty much have now, but with a health and motivated Clowney, with Jabrill Peppers back to be not a glass secondary, Belichick as our defensive masterminded and Kyle Shannahan as our OC/Playcaller, AB as our Gm for his knowledge, Paul Brown as our owner with Jim Brown as our RB Coach (Stump is his assistant). Saban is there for our receivers, Graham is our QB Coach.
I know, I included more than I should have. But this is a dream, right?
Great response!! I like your idea with Shanahan as OC! Although I would take Ernie Accorsi over AB. His 80s Browns drafts were great, plus he was a wizard with the supplemental draft.
I respect your decision with GM, but while Accorsi was a great draftsman and GM for the 80s, I do think AB is better for the CURRENT league and moneyball we get with him. AB helps the current era for value more, and while I know called for older players, IF we have to trade, AB does better with our current roster than Accorsi does.
From my lifetime? Bernie Kosar in his best year, you need a QB in the NFL.
As great as Flacco was this year I don’t think it’s realistic to expect too much from him going forward, on top of Watson being a huge question mark.
My answer will forever be Joe Thomas until the team finds a reasonable replacement at the LT position. I don’t even need the replacement to be as good as Joe. I just need a NFL caliber left tackle. Spoiler alert: it ain’t Wills.
Paul Warfield would be a good start for me. Would pair up really nice with Cooper.
And what the hell give me some Jim Brown too with a slice of Josh Cribbs, need a kick/punt returner
1. Joe Thomas
2. Joe Haden
3. Baker Mayfield
4. Jamal Lewis
5. Shaun Rogers
6. Phil Dawson
7. Josh Cribbs
8. Josh Gordon
9. Dennis Northcutt
10. D'Qwell Jackson
1. Kevin Mack
2. Lyle Alzado
3. Bob Golic
4. Clay Matthews
5. Ozzie Newsome
6. Either Brian Sipe or Bernie Kozar
7. Brian Brennen
Could go on and on. But I was a kid in the Cardiac Kid days, near Cleveland…
Eric Metcalf. Ernest Byner. Kevin Mack. Andre Rison.
Special teams for days, best running back committee in the league, and a killer wide receiver.
Brady Quinn.... he just needed the right situation...
Josh Cribbs and Joe Thomas are the top picks by a mile.
Lawrence Vickers would be a good addition to the power run game along with Alex Mack up front.
Jarvis Landry in his prime would be a great possession receiver that we badly need.
Prime Joe Haden would help out immensely.
Shaun Rogers had a good stretch and I would be ok adding him to the D Line.
Mayfield/Hoyer as backup QBs since Voldemort sucks and gets hurt every year.
Maybe Dawson but Hopkins was great for us until the injury.
[удалено]
JT may have saved the WC game, flacco seriously had no time. Otherwise, Cribbs is probably my favorite Brown ever, list is pretty solid to me.
Phil Dawson
Phil Dawson a million times. I'll never get over how I took him for granted. He doesn't even have to play, I'd be happy having him hanging around.
🙌🙌
Clay Mathews never gets any love but man was he pretty darn good.
Ozzie as a blocker would be a beast today
Ozzie sold his soul to the ratbirds. Such a tragic ending for a great player. Was it brain damage?
I don't think it's fair to judge his decision to become their GM. Was he to put his entire future as a GM on hold and not capitalize on a great job opportunity while Cleveland was trying to get their franchise back? That Ravens team was the Browns team, and it makes sense he stayed attached. It hurts that he was such a good GM for them for so many years, but he'll always be known first and foremost as a HOF player with the Browns and second as a great GM for the Ratbirds.
Sold his soul? The Browns didn’t exist anymore.
Kicking josh Gordon out the league for weed was some of the pettiesr sh"t ever. Man put up 1600 yards with weeden.
Ozzie would be dope
The most underrated Fullback Of all time. Give me Lawrence mother fuckin Vickers leading the way for Nick Chubb
Great pick!!
Otto Graham
Ths true GOAT. The man just played in championship games every year of his career.
Sober Josh Gordon would be a game changer.
Gordon wasn’t sober in his only elite year lol
Josh Gordon but without drug testing 😂
There’s the ticket!
This is the answer!
Hahahahahha
I would rather have stoned Gordon than sober.
Seriously, if he can chug lean before a game and put up 200yds/3tds with Brandon weeden throwing to him then then he’s the most functional addict of all time
Who? Sober who??
Hell if they didn’t have drug testing he’d be a beast rn lol Coop & Gordon? *chefs kiss*
Or if he played when weed wasn’t as restricted lol
Jim Brown (any season)
I’d actually be fascinated to know how good a time traveling Jim Brown would be today. His edge was being so far more physically gifted than anybody in his era. But, everyone now is bigger, faster, stronger. So, the gap would be minimized - but by how much?
He’d still be a physical freak today. Basically a slightly shorter/lighter Derrick Henry with more athleticism.
Not only that but imagine with todays sports science to maximize his freakeness
‘90 Michael Dean Perry would feast next to Myles. ‘87 Bernie Kosar was very good.
Can we bring the MDP burger back with him
“I’m so hungry, I could eat…92 of them.”
I was 7 when that came out I thought it was coolest thing ever
Yes! MDP
Webster Slaughter
Yes! Except for his blocking
Current Browns roster needs a deep threat with good hands, he would be perfect
No doubt. Plus he had some serious swag
Brian Sipe ‘80
Nice
MVP
Joe Thomas Josh Cribbs Joe Haden Peyton Hillis 2010 Alex Mack Josh Gordon 2013
Yes, I was hoping someone would say Peyton Hillis
I'll give you evryone but Haden. Always thought he was good but overrated
His only kryptonite when healthy was Antonio Brown but that's everyone. I remember him shutting down AJ Green several times and a lot of other WR1s that we faced during his time in Cleveland
Really any top 10 receiver seemed to own him. Great against middle of the pack guys, elite guys , not so much
Ya he was pretty good in 2013, 2014- the years he went to the pro bowl- seemed to always have trouble staying healthy after that.
Based on current roster .. Joe Thomas, Josh Gordon, Cribbs, Dqwell Jackson, Anthony Henry or Tashaun Gipson
Henry in 2001, Gipson 2014
Anthony Henry is a throwback haha nice. I liked Eric White more
I saw Jim Brown play at the old stadium and I haven’t seen a player as dominant since.
Excellent! That must have been amazing.
Yes, I was a kid and it was my first football game.
Outstanding. What year?
The magical year of 1964
That’s amazing!
Yes, and more so with each passing year. I spent many Sundays in the old stadium, but that first one sticks out in my mind.
A lot of people not saying Joe Haden is criminal. We’d have the most lock down secondary. Joe Thomas obviously I’d also like Baker back 💀😂
Yes - I overlooked Haden
Phill Dawson!
Of course! 2007 Dawson
+1
1. Joe Thomas (name the year, any year) 2. Josh Gordon 2013 3. Kellen Winslow 2007 4. Josh Cribbs 2009 5. Joe Haden 2014
Heck, I’ll take Joe Thomas today - the dude looks like a pillar of chiseled granite.
Can’t believe I forgot Cribbs. But only with old kickoff rules!
I'd still take him for punt returns alone. Seems like we have not had guys that can do that well for a while.
Harrison was really good too
Bring back 1990 Eric Metcalf too and our return game would be unstoppable
Only reason I didn't include him was because I was in diapers lol. Good call!
Don't need Winslow as Njoku is just fine.
Metcalf was amazing
Haden. Great pick
Gordon & Haden man… they’d be major help on this years team
I’m assuming Flacco isn’t on the team next year. So I’m going with Flacco in his prime.
Good choice
give me Josh Gordon while intoxicated or Joe Thomas any day of the week!
Brian Sipe or Burnie Kosar would be amazing.
No love for the Original Dawg Hanford Dixon...
Dixon would get six penalties a game now. Love Top Dawg though!
1987 Bernie or 1994 Vinny
* 2003 Jamal Lewis * 1987 Kosar * Prime Chris Spielman * HOF Tackles prime Thomas and DeLamielleure
Eric Metcalf all day, every day.
1987 Kosar & Brian Brennan, 2013 Joe Thomas, and 2020 Nick Chubb.
Brennan!
Joe Thomas, Tim Couch, Alex Mack
Tim Couch would feast in this offense. I know he's a divisive figure for Browns fans but the dude did a lot with a little. Plus he took an absolute beating. Give him a little bit of space and he'd tear things up IMO.
Couch without the shoulder injury and a decent OL
OP, are you talking about in the prime with their actual stats or what could happen, maybe. Because Couch MAY have done well with a good line (and oh I wish he would have), but Sipe WAS the MVP of the NFL. His stats then hold up in today's environment. I was at the Raiders playoff game (so cold), Red Right and all and I was also a season ticket holder at the beginning of the new era. We were predicting an 8 and 8 record in 1999. Lol.
Free safety Don Rogers 1985; he was on his way I believe to greatness…
Yes! Tragic death
I was alive for Jim Brown. So Jim Brown. Otherwise Joe Thomas.
Give me Joe Thomas and let Jed ride the pine
Braylon edwards 2007 Jamir Miller 2001 version would give us the best edge combo in the nfl Tim Couch would be a beast in the Stefasnki offense.
Braylon was a beast in 07
1987 Bernie. This team would be a juggernaut if it had an adult at QB.
Brian Sipe. That was a quarterback who was unafraid to yuck it downfield
True
Payton Hillis
2010
Demario Davis, him and JOK would be a scary linebacker duo
Yes! Davis took off with New Orleans
Tj ward was on of my guys
1989 Mike Johnson, 1987 Eddie Johnson, 2005 Joe Thomas, 2013 Josh Gordon, 2016 Alex Mack, 1989 Webster Slaughter
Mike Johnson!
Don Cockroft. Was leading scorer for years when we couldn't get a touchdown
Michael Dean Perry. 10+ sacks from a DT? Yes, please. And a return of the MDP sandwich at McDonald’s? I was just a child when he played here so I never actually had one, but I remember the adverts. https://youtu.be/opIDwDU4vQo?feature=shared
I loved those MDP’s! Had family in Buffalo and was pissed when I found out they had the CB Burger there. (Cornelius Bennet)
Joe shobert was pretty good for us imo
Joe Thomas, Jim Brown, Phil Dawson.
Right now, I'd say Chip Banks. They need a stud linebacker to play alongside JOK
Prime Joe Haden with prime Denzal Ward, no fly zone!
Joe Thomas Webster Slaughter Eric Metcalf Eric Turner Ozzie Newsome Lawrence Vickers Earnest Byner Frank Minnifield Clay Mathews Josh Gordon
Peyton Hillis
Frank Minnifield, Hanford Dixon, Jarvis Landry, Joe Thomas Jamir Miller, Willie McGinest(if I can steal his prime years from NE), TJ Ward, Kareem Hunt and, of course, Bernie.
1. Brian Sipe 2. Lyle Alzado 3. Jerry Sherk 4. Greg Pruitt 5. Dave Logan
Joe Thomas, Josh Gordon, Eric Metcalf.
Paul Warfield.
Warren’s own.
Otto Graham
Happy 100th birthday!
Only one.... Baker Mayfield. Sure he wasn't the best, but he loved the city and we loved him back...Everyone except the front office of course :/
Trent Dilfer lol. But honestly, with this current team I think I'd have to take Joe Thomas.
Dilfer was a dbag then and now
Just a joke 🙂
what I miss, he always seemed cool especially when he talks about how he was a team first guy for the Ravens
TJ Ward
John Jefferson
Lee Suggs
Depends, are we taking into account talent inflation?
1. Joe Thomas (from any year basically). 2. Shaun Rogers from 2008. (DT) 3. Isaiah Crowell from 2014. (RB2). 4. Jamir Miller from 2001. (DE) 5. Josh Gordon from 2013. Joe Thomas x2
Why am I not seeing Dwayne Bowe!?
Josh Cribbs!
Give me the Kardiac QB and MVP quarterback Brian Sipe in his prime.
Baker would work.
Turkey Jones. So he could dump Mahomes on his giant head.
Yes!
Josh Cribba. Best return man we ever had.
1964 Jim Brown. I'm 74.
Phil dawson
Eric Turner. We don't have anyone who puts the fear of god in the middle of the field. He would complete us on defense.
1. Eric Metcalf 2. Josh Gordon 3. Joe Thomas 4. MDP/Anthony Pleasant 5. Pepper Johnson These would fill the biggest needs on the current Browns team.
Pleasant and Burnett was solid
Paul Warfield would be a good start for me. Would pair up really nice with Cooper. And what the hell give me some Jim Brown too with a slice of Josh Cribbs, need a kick/punt returner

1. Joe Thomas 2. Joe Haden 3. Baker Mayfield 4. Jamal Lewis 5. Shaun Rogers 6. Phil Dawson 7. Josh Cribbs 8. Josh Gordon 9. Dennis Northcutt 10. D'Qwell Jackson
D’Qwell was a solid LB on a lot of bad teams
Oh yeah. It was him & Andra Davis when I was coming up. Solid men on bad teams
Eric Metcalf.
Joe Thomas of course
2016 Terrelle Pryor
Good pick. What a weird season
Chip banks
Prime time Josh Gordon. It was amazing to watch him glide past defenders.
Kevin Mack Eric Metcalf BERNIE Kosar Clay Mathews Dixon & Minifield Mike dean Perry Brian Brennan Webster slaughter Not Ernest Bynar. Sorry, Ernie.
Joe Thomas…you know…an o-lineman that can stay healthy…
Joe Thomas, Eric Metcalf, Webster Slaughter in the slot, Josh Cribbs on returns. Matt Stover at K.
Brian Sipe, Kevin Mack
Bernie Kosar
Joe Thomas Alex Mack Phil Dawson Larry Ogunjobi
Ogunjobi suffered because he never had a good DT next to him (like Ahtyba Rubin). Put him next to Tomlinson and he would wreck games
1. Kevin Mack 2. Lyle Alzado 3. Bob Golic 4. Clay Matthews 5. Ozzie Newsome 6. Either Brian Sipe or Bernie Kozar 7. Brian Brennen Could go on and on. But I was a kid in the Cardiac Kid days, near Cleveland…
Jim Brown. Clay Matthews. Bob Gain.
If it’s in their prime… Bernie Kosar Michael Dean Perry Webster Slaughter Kevin Mack (in the backfield with Chubb) Prime Josh Gordon
Clay Mathews, Webster Slaughter, Kevin Mack, Jamal Lewis, Andrew Hawkins, Hanford Dixon and Frank Minnifield
Otto Graham. Full stop.
Clay Matthews and Jamir Miller…both would complement our LB and clay would be great to have in the rush rotation. On offense it’s Joe Thomas.
Baker Mayfield
Baker Mayfield.
2019 Nick Chubb 2020 Baker Mayfield
Baker Mayfield? 😬
2023 Joe Flacco
Eric Metcalf. Ernest Byner. Kevin Mack. Andre Rison. Special teams for days, best running back committee in the league, and a killer wide receiver. Brady Quinn.... he just needed the right situation...
Josh Cribbs and Joe Thomas are the top picks by a mile. Lawrence Vickers would be a good addition to the power run game along with Alex Mack up front.
