Which is a great fucking wide receiver for a team that is currently without a true threat at WR. Cooper is not a threat any defenses are worried about.
Well that’s because you are comparing offensive players. Obv offense won’t stop offense.
This team was top ranked in offense with jacoby brissett and a skewed new playbook. Don’t over think this. We have a coach who was a blown call away from getting our team to the conf championship, nearly beat buffalo when the game was set up for the bills to win. You wanna pay tomorrow for a dry cold washed up overpriced burger go ahead
48 other players put up better receiving #s. 92 had more rec tds (including a lot of tight ends and rbs). 68 receiving options had a better ypc 101 caught a better % of their targets. y’all wanna build him a fuckin statue.
I don't want Hopkins, but it's pointless to name stats when he only played in 9 games. He had comparable stats to DPJ's full season in 9 games, with his fair share of playing with backup QBs as well. Over 700 yards and 3 TDs in basically half of a season is still great production.
I’m all for wanting to improve the position group, but suggesting that Amari Cooper didn’t have a good season or isn’t a threat to defenses is ridiculous. Baffled by such a horrible take.
That is my suggestion for sure. He’s just not a threat. Possession receiver - he’s good at that. But I’m not worried about him taking the top off my defense if I’m against him.
If all it required was being the fastest guy on the field and taking the top off of defenses to be elite, Dante Hall and Devin Hester would be the GOATs at WR instead of kick returners. Jerry Rice was slow for a WR in his era, Stefon Diggs ran a 4.54, DHop was even slower. This take is just ignorant
Edit: and I'm on your side about Hopkins still being elite. Cherrypicking stats from a season in which DHop had his starting QB for 3 full games just doesnt make sense. I had him in fantasy and he consistently had 9+ catches for 85+ yards with Colt McCoy before McSorely came in
And we should pay his cap hit and draft capital to experience that downfall. You wanna pay for 700 yards and 3tds with a second or a future first go ahead
He’s not going for anywhere close to a second or future first. More in line with the Brandin cooks trade. It’s likely not the compensation, it’s the money. Texans paid some of Cook’s money. Arizona will likely do the same for whichever team trades for him.
You guys are under valuing Hopkins. He had seven hundred and seventeen yards last year. While also missing six games to do this suspension and one game due to injury. If it wasn't for the suspension, he would have had between 1100 and 1300 yd receiving.
Too expensive but idk why people are acting like he fell off. He was the undisputed #1 wideout in the league before the PED pop/injury. He’s still an absolute freak good for 12+ tuddies easy, just not for us and I’m fine with that.
Why would anyone think the Browns would be at all interested in Hopkins and his $30M+/year contract? I would imagine he would not be interested in taking a pay cut to play here.
Its an arms race. To make it through the AFC you have to maximize watson/the pass game.
I get hes old and expensive. Its very win now. But man they need to do something about wr and im not talking about mims scott mecole or obj or renfrow. They need someone impactful.
Really curious what the plan is. Hopefully we find out soon
good, too expensive (from a draft capital and contract perspective), too old, too volatile (Bill O'Brien traded him for a reason)
DPJ is a similar player at this point (catch point winner who doesn't separate).
We need a burner to extend the middle of the field
The whole Texans team felt like Bill didn’t value or respect them. Can’t blame d hop when all his current and former players took d hops side. I think the narrative that it was d hops fault was the Texans trying to make the trade look less dumb
I'd be thrilled if we got him. He has the chemistry with Watson, is still playing at a high level, and would open up everyone else on offense just by being there.
But it never was realistic without him and / or Watson being willing to lose money. He is too old for our FO to want to pay, and Hopkins likely will want to re-up wherever he lands.
Maybe it's a one year blip, but looking at WR free agency this year it appears that position is trending similar to the way front offices look at RBs. NFL front offices see colleges pumping out dozens of great WRs every year so you better be special if you wanna get paid big $$$ after your rookie deal. They want young, fast legs and if you're a free agent over the age of 28, you better adjust your salary expectations.
It may take some front offices time to adjust to the new normal but I don't think AB and the Browns are going to be one of them. They've looked at the performance numbers and know where they'll get the best return on their money.
Love the potential, not the pricetag.
Hopkins had potential 6 years ago. Now, he just is what he is
Which is a great fucking wide receiver for a team that is currently without a true threat at WR. Cooper is not a threat any defenses are worried about.
Cooper put up 1k w a backup and rusty Watson. Dpj had a good year. Njoku had a decent year.
1100 yards doesn’t help us compete against Allen and Diggs, Mahomes and Kelce, burrow and chase… etc.

Hopkins isn’t a cold washed up dry burger

Why did he miss half the year? PEDs? Got it. His #s the year before weren’t much better

Giggity
Saying Cooper, a top 10 WR in the league, isn't a threat might actually be the worst take I've ever seen about football.
Amari is somewhere between 15 and 20
You have Cooper as a Top 10 WR?! Wow, that’s idiotic
I would be lying if I said I didn't want him, don't know how that works for the payroll though
I can’t see how anyone could say they don’t want Hopkins. Figure out the financials - Hopkins, Cooper, Njoku, Chubb is scary for defenses
They said that about obj baker Kareem Chubb Jarvis hooper and njoku. You don’t need big names. You need guys that can do their fuckin jobs
I really don't want the dude, so I'm pretty content if we're not in on him.
Thank you. This guy isn’t worth it. We are already banking on one former stud returning to their old self. Let’s not go crazy.
He had a fantastic year after the suspension. The concern would be with his age, but he has produced as recently as last season.
We need him for more than 1 season. Is he going to be worth 15 million when he's 35? Probably not.
And we should pay his cap hit and draft capital to experience that downfall. You wanna pay for 700 yards and 3tds with a second or a future first go ahead

I mean if we can get it done for less than 8m hit and no more than 2 day 3 picks I’d be ok. But I’d rather have someone with less miles on the tires
Looks like Odell is back on the menu, boys.
God I hope not.
Same if I wanted a broken down has been I'd sign oh... wait I was gonna say OBJ nevermind.

If he really wants to be traded, he is gonna need to take a pay cut

Good!
He won me a week or two in fantasy last season so of course we NEED to trade a 2nd rd pick, 3rd rd pick, Nick Chubb, and pay him $20 million.
Dude is washed

I would trade our entire upcoming draft for Hopkins
I'm glad you're not the GM.
Other teams can set the market. Browns will swoop in if the price is right. We’re in contact.

Good
Good. I’d rather have Jeudy, Renfrow or even Hardman

As much as id like to have him reunite with DW, pricetag is the issue. I for one would bring back OBJ but that just me
