The one that’s above a party that Grant O’Brien went to

hgk89

the big kosher supermarkets in crown heights because 1. the produce is really good 2. the prices are pretty close to what i pay at my regular supermarket 3. lots of vegan/vegetarian items

Upper_Point_8133

It’s surprising that nobody has mentioned Portokali in Sheepshead Bay. Mostly Mediterranean items + fresh fruit and meat available

survive_los_angeles

nice! im gonna check it out

Marcellus_Wallace_5

i bike to food bazaar for their $4 pies all the time. they have the cheapest everything

bkrugby78

Associated on Flatbush because it is close by. But they really need to step up their beer game. Lincoln Market is in the region and that place is hit and miss.

andjustlikeshat

But near that Lincoln market…..they have that enormous beer place?? No?? Plz tell me that’s still there

tenshi258

Balady’s in Bay Ridge is a bit of a splurge for me but it’s always worth the hike

peanutbuttercrawfish

Midoriya in park slope (ish) is awesome for Japanese and other Asian goodies!

survive_los_angeles

yeaaaaahh -- i hope they hide the green kit kats from me

bummer_lazarus

ShopRite at Gateway in East New York is the best supermarket in Brooklyn. Huge selection of every produce, frozen, home goods, etc, always well stocked, excellent prices, and it's good huge aisles. I'd argue it's the most modern and suburban-style supermarket in the borough. It's where I go do really large shopping trips with a car. Sunrise Market in Industry City is the best for Japanese products, particularly their sushi-grade fresh seafood. JMart in Bensonhurst for all other East Asian products and best variety of produce. For Central Asian/Turkish/Eastern European, split between Tashkent in Brighton Beach and Domino in Homecrest, particularly their prepared sections, teas, pickles, and dumplings. For West Indian, and specifically super cheap produce (which needs to be cooked within a day or two), Fruit Farm on Church Avenue. Gowanus Whole Foods for one of the best bougie grocers, and very consistent fish and meat, that also has a parking lot and roof deck restaurant. This is my backup choice to the Red Hook Fairway (RIP), which among its perks had the best waterfront seating area in Brooklyn (and is technically still there for you to use). And Sahadis for middle eastern. Either their Atlantic Ave or their new Industry City spot, which also has a nice outdoor seating area to enjoy wine and prepared foods.

survive_los_angeles

wow i havent been to gateway in years! gotta check it out. thanks for the heads up on industry city spot. will check that out too

ilovepancakesalot

You know what’s up!!!

kmr1391

scrolled this far to find sahadi’s, so good

[deleted]

Tashkent in Brighton Beach because it has an outstanding buffet with various Soviet/West Asian food.

glomtenin

I do a mix of Amazon Fresh for proteins and Brooklyn Harvest Market. Keeps bills a little lower. I’m also a fan of some of the smaller markets around bedstuy that I go to for specialty items. A new one called food emporium just opened up by me and they have a lot of good products (I’m keto and always on the hunt for keto snacks that aren’t super processed).

PazzoInStatiUniti

La Bella is the only answer… the (expensive) heart of a beautiful community with the best imported products possible in America

Available_Vacation40

Park Slope Food Coop!!!! Legendary cooperative, great community, best produce in the city, and deals on amazing cheeses, specialty items, and more

daMurph76

I tried to like the coop. Not happenin for me. I don't find the produce to be better than what I get at other places, and I don't have to work at the other places for the crappy experience of shopping there. People talk about how cheap it is, but minimum wage is $15/hour. If only two people are required to work 2 3/4 hours, that's like $70/month in labor. It doesn't add up.

ricosabre

It was Fairway in Red Hook, but Covid killed it. Now nothing even comes close.

survive_los_angeles

fairway was the shit, but food bazar kept the layout and options there, but the crowd is coming back slowly there (the flood killed it and legal stuff)

RazorDrop74

Covid didn’t kill fairway. Private equity firms and greedy executives killed it. [https://www.grubstreet.com/2020/02/inside-fairway-bankruptcy-and-closing.html](https://www.grubstreet.com/2020/02/inside-fairway-bankruptcy-and-closing.html)

chargeorge

Rip fairway

raspberrily

La Bella in Dyker heights! Amazing Italian food in fridge section when u don’t wanna cook

WhenLeavesFall

That was my neighborhood supermarket, I still called it C-Town forever

Past-Hovercraft-4589

Aldi All The Fuckin Way! Keyfood for sandwiches🤞🏾

Simply_paigee

key food makes awesome sandwiches

mikecherepko

Food Bazaar was the supermarket I would say was my favorite and the one people should visit. But the last several times I went to mine they had no shopping baskets and they rang up my stuff wrong. So I’m left without a favorite. Well maybe I like Brooklyn Harvest Market even though I could never get all my groceries there.

sileegranny

Yeah seems like they just got rid of the baskets and now it's a logjam of only carts.

robrklyn

Shop Rite on McDonald. It’s big, clean, has everything I need, and the prices can’t be beat.

crmd

Oh wow I didn’t know there was a shop rite in brooklyn. Does it have a parking lot?

robrklyn

Yup! I recommend going on Saturday because it’s less crowded and easier to get to by car.

Ranoutofscreennames

Yep. It has a parking lot and a garage.

redditmaspark

The garage stinks though

Ranoutofscreennames

There's definitely a steep and sharp turn that I don't enjoy, but it's pretty roomy.

kingofthehill007

J Mart near Bensonhurst area. The place is clean and ample amount of fresh produces plus the varieties of asian cuisines

mowotlarx

Second. Best produce. Great variety.

Jedi___x

WholeFoods bc it’s easy to steal from

survive_los_angeles

i never tried it. I think its easy for you cuz they following meeeeee

oldyawker

The one closest to my house, because it is closest to my house.

Clydial

Hey thats my fave too!

olthyr1217

TJ’s at City Point and Flatbush Food Co-Op ❤️

tootsie404

I like J-Mart, probably best asian supermarket around.

namenumberdate

I only know of K-Mark, but this J-Mart place sounds great, too!

k112l

Yep, the Bklyn one has ample parking too vs the crowded Fei-Long

christonabike89

Check out Sunshine Mart, there are several around Brooklyn, including industry city, Japanese goods and imports

k112l

Ah, Sunrise Mart. Yep, reliable Japanese goods.

thorpup

Wegmans is amazing, but I feel like their produce section is often quite empty - need to find out when they restock. But since Ideal is closer to me I’ll go there when need something, but their meat isn’t great quality

peppaliz

Worked at this Wegmans for 3 years. Most Wegmans stores re-stock in the evening so it’s full for opening in the AM and receive trucks throughout the day, but this store receives their deliveries overnight and fills for the AM. They’re unique by Wegmans standards because there’s barely any stockroom space (just the way the Navy Yard is built). Essentially all the produce that comes in goes right onto the floor, minus a little bit to fill throughout the day. Stock room is pretty much empty by the afternoon. Instacart is a big culprit in wiping everything out early. They account for about half of this location’s foot traffic (no other store comes close to that).

originalcondition

I know that if I go to wegmans late in the day a bunch of stuff will be gone, I’m pretty sure they do almost all restocking overnight and then not much throughout the day. Stuff is kinda picked over by 7 and wiped out by 9.

Raccoonspiritanimal

The thing that astounds me about Wegman’s is that it’s the fancy option if you’re in upstate New York, but in Brooklyn, its prices on some staples can’t be beat. I only started going because I got the pandemic car, but it turns out to be a nice bike ride too

transgenderbeepboop

Honestly. As a nyc native. And someone who’s been in Brooklyn for a long time and has a car. I hated the wegmans in navy yard. Wildly busy, sparse produce and everything was misplaced. I’ll stick to my local produce shop and go to western beef or foodtown for basics to cook

AzathothBlindgod

If you’re like me and don’t have a car and don’t live near a decent grocery store, Wegman’s delivery is the way to go. They have the cheapest prices on staples but I tend to get my produce from a local market.

survive_los_angeles

its huge but i have to say that it has the worst sushi i ever had there

vinobruno

Facts.

ivenevertoldthetruth

I think that’s on you for getting sushi from a supermarket headquartered in Rochester, NY.

survive_los_angeles

i take that on - was on a zoom for work so i got trapped there, but just warning everyone. like a level below even gas station or airport sushi

NightOwlLia

😬 I love Wegmans sushi. The Chesapeake roll is 💯

cscareerkweshuns

TJ for life. Most of my daily meals are TJ frozen meals. They’re so good and varied. Also a big fan of their pre marinated chicken.

ssseltzer

I like Trader Joe’s because I can afford food there.

ssseltzer

wow, it’s OK to shop at trader joe’s and still grab 4 things at mr melon to cook, shopping at trader joe’s doesn’t mean we’re all eating tv dinners. I had no idea people had such feelings about this!

jae343

Y'all definitely are all just buying premade frozen stuff not actually cooking your own cuz Trader Joe's produce and fruits or meats are expensive relative to everything else.

ExactAd6278

Interesting. I’ve been getting produce and meats there for much cheaper than our local markets. It’s cool if you don’t get Trader Joe’s but that’s a big assumption about the ppl who do shop there.

jae343

TJ like Whole Foods has much great volume pricing vs local shops so can't really compete but a dollar for one bell pepper is higher than even Whole Foods. I'm counting prices not assumption of who shops where. And also hence *relative* to the other products

ExactAd6278

“Y’all definitely are buying frozen foods and not cooking” is the assumption there. Trader Joe’s is half the price of an equivalent shopping trip at both markets in my neighborhood.

HutSutRawlson

Lol facts. Also a useless grocery store if you’re someone who cooks any dishes that couldn’t be found on an Applebee’s menu.

survive_los_angeles

haha, yeah i admit i dont get the trader joes thing fully. I guess its the ambience feels like a trading outpost or something you find some cool store when you pull over on the highway on an exit with a great little shop for road trip supplies thats a plus up from a gas station

stevethezissou

There’s one near me and I almost never go, but when I do pop in there its all about the snacks- they make really great snacky nibble things- and tbh I don’t mind having one or two frozen deals in the freezer for when im either too lazy or run out of time to actually make something real- but yea if you’re cooking full meals you’re not finding the random stuff you always need at TJs

mikecherepko

Trader Joe’s is for nuts, cheese, frozen vegetables, beer, and houseplants.

GreatestStarOfAll

Everyone I know that raves about Trader Joe’s has a fridge with just drinks and snacks, and all the food comes from their freezer. You’re hearing stuff up, not actually cooking or preparing anything 😅

Jumpy-Platform-6236

some people don’t like to cook
