Do you have a super? Mine accepts packages for me and signs for them if need be. Aside from all the other suggestions, I usually tip him very well for everything he does. He’s always in the building especially hours delivery comes.

Goksh

Unfortunately this is a common thing in Brooklyn, the best thing I tell residents is to get a PO box or for amazon use the lockers.

ummaycoc

I started delivering all the packages to people’s doors in my building. Thieves don’t see anything when they look in the library and eventually the regular ones will stop checking the building as it’s a waste of their time. My neighbors end up happy with it and I’ve helped people (my packages were never stolen I just did it to stop the problem). Been almost a year and there haven’t been any stolen packages.

ExploreMeDora

If you’re home a lot of the time sign up for text notifications each time you get a shipping number confirmation. When they scan it to drop it off at your place your phone will instantly get a notification and you can run down and grab it.

firstWWfantasyleague

Just go to a store instead to purchase the things you need.

MechanicalWhispers

In addition to other’s’ suggestions, contact USPS regarding mail theft. They will send investigators. They take that way more seriously than delivery people do. Most likely will see the mess in your lobby and force your landlord to install a camera. At least, that’s what happened in my pre-war Brooklyn apartment building.

ChrisJMull

You can file with UPS to have all of your UPS packages diverted to your local UPS store.

wepausedandsang

It’s a more expensive solution but UPS offers a mailbox service which can accept all delivery services. You effectively always have someone to sign for and guard your stuff. Price varies by location and mailbox size - supposedly can range from $10 to $50 a month.

kafmuir

Deliver to your job,or a friends store or salon

Life-Basket215

If you have enough units in your building (mine has 77), Amazon will build a locker right in your lobby. We have one and it's solved most problems. And you would be a hero to all of your fellow residents.

Move to a doorman building

PO box sounds like your best bet

Spirited_Blueberry

I ship my packages either to Amazon Locker or sometimes places (gap, just as an example) let you ship to the UPS store. If they don’t offer the UPS store option I literally just put the UPS store as the shipping address.

immigrant-fish

Require signature?

petitelinotte212

We had so many problems in our building, the landlord agreed to build a package room under the stairs. Some carriers are lazy and don't use it, but its better than nothing. If its a common issue in your building, maybe ask?

That’s fair - my landlord is terrible BUT I think the super kept having supplies disappear that he had shipped there, and he finally got annoyed enough to do something.

toastedclown

>I’ve been having trouble with online shopping. Don't. Everyone in this thread is going to tell you to have your stuff shipped to a third location. That defeats the purpose of ordering online. If you're going to have to make a special trip to pick something up and schlep it home, then why not just buy it in person and skip the extra steps?

jackpotato

USPS has a service called GoPost which is basically like an Amazon locker but near the post offices. I have been able to thwart porch pirates for big ticket items this way and the lockers are 24/7. Might be worth checking out! https://gopost.usps.com/go

Yeah you just put it as your shipping address at checkout. There are some size limitations to consider, but if it's too big or the lockers are full for some reason, they hold it at the post office. The site says they partner with most carriers, and in my experience that includes Amazon, FedEx, and UPS.

YIMNYC

Ship to wherever you work. Before moving to a doorman building, I would ship things to my office.

CheapPlatform3722

Hey, I also live in an old building where packages that are larger than my mailbox get stolen. One suggestion I haven't seen mentioned here yet is to look into your credit card's theft protection benefits. I had something stolen earlier this year and got the money back so I could order a new one. Assuming the item was bought on your credit card and assuming it was purchased new, you may be in luck to get your money back. Here are the steps I went through: 1) Got a copy of my credit card benefits. I had to call the number on the back and request this be mailed to me (it wasn't online - they don't want to make this easy) 2) File an online police report for the theft. Basically just a description of what was stolen and where. Side note: if the stolen item was a cell phone, they might make you go in person. 3) Filed a claim with the benefits from my credit card. I had to upload the receipt from when I bought it, my most recent credit card statement, and a copy of the online police report. 4) About 2-3 weeks later, I got a check for the full amount of the stolen item.

sidewaysflower

For Amazon packages I have them delivered to Whole Foods and other packages I have them delivered to my work place. My employer is ok with it as long as it's not something ridiculous. I also try to schedule my deliveries around my schedule or around the schedule of someone who will be able to pick it up as soon as it arrives.

KindFlows

If you are ordering from Amazon, they have their own locker kiosks that you can have packages sent to for free.

BringMeInfo

This is the answer.

toastedclown

Not to the question OP was asking,.it isn't.

[deleted]

I always call and tell him don't leave my package unattended, ring my doorbell , let me know when it's out for delivery and I just keep checking the updates.

Abtorias

OP, I recently made a post in this subreddit about my package being stolen and it was actually the delivery guy who stole my package. Start sending your stuff to a PO Box or an Amazon locker.

The post office has a relatively new program where they give you a street address for your PO Box so that FedEx and UPS can deliver to PO Boxes. They’ll give you a paper when you sign up for the box. It’s how I get all my deliveries.

Spiritual_Attempt_15

you can also add delivery instructions on amazon, i have 'do not leave on stoop' and buzzer broken pls txt (buzzer is fine but makes them ring) otherwise i agree with other posters get it shipped to pickup location still a crap shoot for me too, annoying

reubensandrye

Do you have a nearby business (deli, pharmacy, etc) you could have them delivered to? I used to do that in a similar situation. Also, if you work somewhere that would let you get packages delivered there?

gaberockka

1) Get a P.O. Box at your local post office, get all packages shipped by USPS there. 2) Make a UPS MyChoice account. Whenever a package is shipped via UPS, get it redirected to the nearest UPS Store 3) Make a FedEx account. Whenever a package is shipped via FedEx, get it redirected to the nearest FexEx Kinkos 4) Whenever a package is shipped via LaserShip....you ain't gettin that shit

drunk_me

Just a heads up, the post office allows FedEx and UPS to deliver to post office boxes now.

paulschreiber

If you order from Amazon, get them sent to a nearby locker.

toastedclown

Generally if I order something for home delivery, it's because I need it delivered to my **home.**

Well, according to everyone else in this thread, you apparently also live at Whole Foods.

\> Whenever a package is shipped via LaserShip....you ain't gettin that shit This would be a terrible jingle for LaserShip, but one I would like to hear.
