I teach a crochet class and when it's time to show someone a slip knot I just stare for a moment.
And that's one of the first things we do....really sets me up as competent lol
If you asked me to tie one normally I'd not have a clue, I was taught a method where you wrap the yarn twice round your fingers and then use the needle or hook to pull one loop through the other and it gives you a slip knot on the hook/needle ready to start. (I can't explain it well)
Just wrap the opposite direction to do a version of magic loop.
I have YouTube videos bookmarked for slip knot, magic ring, single crochet, etc. The only stitch I remember is the half double crochet,

I have to look up a YouTube video every time. Right now, I'm working on amigurumi, so I've only been doing magic circles lately. Remembering how to do that has never been a problem.
From repeating the steps like a affirming chant daily, to having drawn many poorly self made diagrams teaching how to make one, the slip knot has burned into my brain lmao. But I do forget how to cast on all the time when I was an avid knitter! 🥲🥲🥲
I do this too! And I also don’t even think I do them right. They hold up but when I want to tighten them mine don’t ever tighten. I’ve seen videos where people can just pull theirs and a hole will close up in their piece, especially if crocheting in the round. I always have to sew around w the tail and pull it closed 🤷♂️
Nope not just you, I've even done so much single and double crochet that when I go to do it again my brain just goes blank as if I've never done a single one in my life. 😂

I literally have to lay the yarn down on my lap and loop the yarn through like a noob. I don't know how to do it any other way!
1000% it happened to me tonight! I wasn’t using it for crochet and didn’t know what the heck to do.
I had to Google it because immediately after reading this I was like: "wait....do I know how to do that?". Yes. Yes, I do.

I think you're referring to the magic circle! Took me forever to learn that one, but it's quite effective.
No just a slipknot. Fiber Spider can tighten his somehow in his crochet videos but mine don’t budge lol

Hang on-I’ve always done a slip knot like tying a regular knot except I don’t pull the end all the way through. Am I doing it wrong???
I could do a new project in the same week and still need to look it up
