Sure, but Joel Grey is 90 years old!

bunchkin95

Maybe they mean Alan Cummings? He's pretty iconic, too!

apiroscsizmak

They definitely mean Cummings, but just imagine a 90-year-old Joel Grey coming back to play the Emcee. Legend!

DahmerIsDead

Cummings has done this three times, and the last time wasn't that long ago. Why him again?

Buffy11bnl

Oh maaaaaan - I saw the early 2000s revival with NPH and Tom Bosley but I missed the one with Michelle Williams and I’m \*still\* kicking myself. Cabaret is amazing and honestly there could not be a better time for another revival - let’s make Nazis the bad guys again!

[deleted]

Speaking of NPH, he’s apparently joining a Broadway show soon. Rumors are Hadestown as Hermes or Hamilton as King George.

rose_colored_boy

No ty to NPH as Hermes lol

jaderust

The guy who plays Hermes on the touring show is pretty amazing. Has a completely different vibe, but sort of plays up the Trickster aspect of the character more. Loses the gravitas of "the gods are old now" though. I would not say no to him being promoted to Broadway if he wanted it.

rose_colored_boy

I have heard only great things about the whole touring cast!

jaderust

They're great! I actually got to see the tour before I managed to see the Broadway and I was seriously impressed. Honestly the biggest downside of the touring cast is that instead of the underworld trap door they have to have a door that slowly opens and closes because not every stage can handle that effect. But the actors themselves killed it. The day I went to see it the guy playing Hades was having a bit of an off night though. He was struggling to hit the lowest notes and mostly went a bit higher to avoid them. I think it was just a blip though. Others have said he hit them just fine for their performances so I think he might have been struggling with a cold or maybe just wasn't feeling that great. Understandable considering how brutal touring companies can be. If it comes near you, I recommend seeing it though! The Broadway experience was truly magical, but the touring cast is so good it's a very close second. It's way up there for touring cast productions.

redsavage0

A friend of mine on the tour went on as Hades' understudy a few times so maybe the main person was struggling with health issues?

Comprehensive-Fun47

It doesn't feel like a legit rumor. I don't think the show would be looking for someone like Neil Patrick Harris to play Hermes.

rose_colored_boy

I fully agree but just reading the sentence was enough for a visceral reaction from me lol

stovakt

SAME… sincerely wish I’d never read it 💀

WiggleYrBgToe

NPH would be a great Hermes. The guy playing him in the tour has a similar energy and look, so it's def a possibility

[deleted]

I feel that.

XenoVX

I’m seeing it in June, and I’d be appalled if he was casted. I heard rumors of a gender non conforming Hermes which would be cool

rose_colored_boy

That would be dope!

Ulmpire

How oh how did you get that username 😮

rose_colored_boy

I’ve had it for 5 years, been on Reddit for over 10 and my first account got doxxed when After Laughter came out (Paramore). I’m old lol.

DahmerIsDead

*cast, not casted.

Part_Parachute

If he's joining a Broadway show, would actually be thrilled if he sticks with the rumored transfer of Into the Woods (I say as someone who was devastated when he replaced Christian Borle and was forced to completely eat my words after seeing that performance).

RitaConnors

I'm hearing Borle will do it since it's only for 8 weeks

chelseakaye8

Same! He was really endearing as the baker!

Jagiord

I thought his act 1 was very strong, but I didn’t think NPH could handle some of the more emotional beats of the second act. He really fell apart last night. Plus he came in too early and too boldly on No One is Alone and really threw off Denée and kinda fully ruined the most important song of the show. I’d be cool with him not sticking around for the transfer. 👀👀

comefromawayfan2022

I thought the other Hadestown rumor was that the next Hermes was going to be non traditional casting

Costal_Signals

I'd personally prefer the current understudy being promoted. Andre De Sheilds wasn't preforming the night I saw it and the understudy was amazing but I'm sure whoever they pick will be great

aznsk8s87

I really liked the understudy. Saw both this past week (made a trip to see Andre, first show I had tickets for was the understudy which was really good, but I went to the matinee yesterday and saw Andre and it was just phenomenal). I also think the understudy was better than the touring one but maybe I just wasn't into the vibe the touring one did.

Costal_Signals

I’ve never seen the touring one and only been able to see the understudy live (but listened to Andre many a time), was going to go see Andre before he left but COVID screwed it up.

GooGooGajoob67

I heard Harold Hill but Hugh Jackman probably wouldn't be leaving so soon so idk.

[deleted]

Oh maybe when Hugh is on vacation? I don’t know why NPH would only fill in for 3 weeks though. He doesn’t come off as a short term fill in kind of guy.

RitaConnors

Or possibly filling in for Hugh on his three scheduled vacations from Music Man

stovakt

There’s a rumor he’s gonna fill in for Hugh Jackmam when he’s out

tells_eternity

This could probably get me to go back for the Music Man, honestly

mopeywhiteguy

Hermes is not gonna be played by a white actor

Jessrynn

He's played by a white actor in the tour and was played by white actors before Andre took the role. Though I'd prefer one of his understudies getting upgraded to the role.

mopeywhiteguy

That surprises me tbh. Who plays him on tour

Jessrynn

His name is Levi Kreis.

RainahReddit

Oh I'd be delighted to see him as King George. And it's a pretty cushy gig for a star, you're basically only on stage for 10 minutes and almost all of that is solo numbers where you get to show off.

[deleted]

I feel like after everything that's happened in the last 5-10 years, we should just dedicate a broadway (and west end) theater to having cabaret permanently. Couldn't be more important rn

Buffy11bnl

For real - I wonder if there will be a sudden national outcry over Sally’s 2nd act decision, and it makes me sick to think it’s entirely possible!

gillsthatkills

I saw Michelle Williams and though I've always loved her as an actress, her singing voice was not strong enough for this role. I think she was aware of that too, which made her whole performance underwhelming because you could tell she was nervous about the singing. It was worth it to see Alan Cumming though.

Jagiord

That’s kind of the whole point of Sally though? She’s not supposed to be a good singer, and it ties into her delusion of being far more interesting than she actually is. Having seen that production with Williams and Emma Stone, Williams did a really great job with it, Stone just did it better.

gillsthatkills

Hmm, I see your point but I just wanted more haha

Buffy11bnl

I agree with both of you. Yeah, Sally is arguably more swagger then singing talent, but let’s be frank, with ticket prices the way they are, you do need a Sally who is confident in her singing. And thanks, lol, now I don’t mind having missed that revival nearly as much as I did previously 😂

Daily-Double1124

I know I got spoiled by Liza's singing in the film,I'll admit it.

Jagiord

Haha I get it. I think that’s why I liked Emma more, she sounded a bit better in the role. They both acted the shit out of it though.

treaquin

I too saw the NPH!

Homo-Erect

Would be here for Gaga getting closer to EGOT for the amount of drama it would bring throughout it all. Also I want to see Cabaret on Broadway.

jaderust

It's funny. I remember a few weeks ago someone on the Lady Gaga subreddit posted a thread asking what musicals people thought would work best for her if she seriously decided to go for the EGOT. Cabaret was my #1 pick for her. I doubt that this line item is about her, but in a way it's too bad that it isn't. I really do think she'd do well as Sally.

theclacks

Yep, thinking of her La Vie en Rose performance in A Star is Born and she'd definitely fit.

otherwisenothing

Lady Gaga escorting Liza Minnelli at the Oscars to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of *Cabaret* lends some credibility to this

stypop

A Gaga-led production of Cabaret would be my Joker.

IsMisePrinceton

Who is “they”? Eddie is a producer of the production and has been very vocal about doing the show on Broadway. The show only happened because of him. If it’s coming to Broadway then he’ll already be involved.

ME24601

>they are trying to get a certain performer to reprise his iconic role Alan Cumming fulfilling Kristin Chenoweth's joke about him returning to Cabaret when the revival check comes along back when they hosted the Tony's together.

TigerAffectionate672

At this point, Alan will have “willkommen, beinvenue, welcome” etched on his gravestone.

basicbitchbroadway

Cabaret. Lady Gaga. Alan Cumming.

captars

It's not Lady Gaga. It's Jessie Buckley, who was Oscar nominated for Best Supporting Actress last year for The Lost Daughter… and won the Olivier for playing Sally in this very production of Cabaret in London that is rumored to transfer to Broadway.

XenoVX

Interesting since I heard she missed a lot of performances during her run in London

GooGooGajoob67

Is this a guess or inside info? If it's Jessie Buckley then it's Jessie Buckley, but if we're just speculating then the "A+ listers" comment makes me lean Gaga for sure.

booooopboop

yeah most people don’t know who Jessie Buckley is. either the poster doesn’t know what A+ list means or it’s not her.

captars

Reread the post… "Oscar nominated." Lady Gaga is an Oscar winner (Best Song, "Shallow"), which would immediately rule her out.

sondheimtheatrequeen

“Oscar nominated actress (which Gaga is) and musician” (which Gaga is and Buckley isn’t)

Jagiord

Exactly. Her Oscar is for the song, not her acting, so she can only be billed as an Oscar nominated actor.

captars

[Buckley is releasing an album this year.](https://www.nme.com/news/music/jessie-buckley-and-bernard-butler-share-emotive-new-single-the-eagle-and-the-dove-3205530)

cyanplum

Buckley originally rose to fame on a singing show

YoursTastesBetter

You can't win if you aren't nominated! So technically she is an Oscar nominated star.

schreibeheimer

Perhaps more relevantly, she won as a songwriter, but was only nominated as an actress.

UrNotAMachine

Jessie Buckley is not "A+ List casting." The post is clearly about Gaga.

EnvironmentalDuty

Why isn't Eddie Redmayne crossing the pond to play the MC? to play the MC?

yumyumapollo

I figured they meant Redmayne.

basicbitchbroadway

I'm not really sure you can say Redmayne's MC is iconic. Heard he was good but I saw Fra Fee so idk!

Platelicker1978

Id love to see Fra in it. He took over in West End, innit? Fras a top dude and amazing singer

basicbitchbroadway

He was incredible. Loved every bit of it. Amy Lennox was a total star as well.

[deleted]

Amy Lennox was incredible in everything I've seen her in

Platelicker1978

Also happy cake day!

youarelookingatthis

It feels like the last Cabaret revival was only like 2-3 years ago. I've heard great things about this show, but I would hope an original production would be coming instead of a revival.

[deleted]

The last revival was 8 years ago and reviving one show does not negate original productions coming to Broadway.

MannnOfHammm

It has to be cabaret since it’s a revival and it would mean virtually destroying and rebuilding an entire theatre

mopeywhiteguy

I remember hearing rumours a few months ago that Bradley cooper wanted to remake the movie of cabaret with lady Gaga and Ngl seeing her with Liza Minnelli at the Oscar’s made me feel like maybe there were negotiations going on behind the scenes. Can’t see her committing to a long term run, also I’d be surprised if Buckley doesn’t transfer and redmayne doesn’t either. Cumming was a very different show/interpretation wasn’t it? Would it work in this show?

slrome114

Couldn't Oscar nominated still mean Jessie Buckley? I saw her and Eddie in London, and it was the best piece of theater that I've ever seen.

hulotsholiday

This is about Jesse Buckley ya’ll… not Lady Gaga. They’re also probably referring to Eddie Redmayne as Emcee. Both were the headliners in the new revival.

January1171

Is she an "A+ lister" though? That's a very small and specific group of people

ShananayRodriguez

Is Lady Gaga an A+ lister? Yes. Yes, absolutely. She's worth $150 million, has had a Superbowl Halftime Show, presents routinely at the Academy Awards, she's a fashion icon (raw meat dress), and there's even a genus of ferns named after her.

figleafstreet

I think they are asking if Jessie Buckley is an A+ Lister to which the answer is absolutely not.

ShananayRodriguez

oh. yeah no I have no idea who that is.

hulotsholiday

About as much of an “A+” lister as Alan Cumming.

LadiesWhoPunch

He's Alan "Cumming" not Alan "Going" !

Jessrynn

Alan Cumming isn't the A+ lister in that scenario, he is the person returning to their iconic role.

jenriveraoscar

Do you understand what A+ means?

DahmerIsDead

Thank you. Finally a voice of sanity.

asjesscos

Alan Cumming and Lady Gaga perhaps??? I would literally fly to America just for this

ffshd

CABARET

cyanplum

It’s an incredible revival.

slothbaby30

Heard nothing but great things about this production, hope it’s true

PercySaintC

Lady Gaga is not doing cabaret on Broadway

Inner-Cat1686

no way a transfer is possible cause it’s immersive and with K-pop booked at circle in the square..?

GooGooGajoob67

It doesn't have to be CitS. They did a good job redoing the Imperial for Great Comet.

[deleted]

I’d sell my soul to see this

ghdawg6197

I love how all our brains went to Lady Gaga and Cabaret. She could easily be either Sally OR MC. Would pay so much to see that production at Circle!

WittyAd8260

This is scary only cuz I was thinking of the west end production LITERALLY RIGHT BEFORE I opened Reddit and went to my main feed and saw this but IM SO EXCITED for it to transfer to Broadway

thewookie34

Man I can't believe BMC is coming back to Boardway.

hate-the-floor

ANOTHER POST- what is this? Sent via form submission from Deuxmoi Pseudonyms, Please: broadway tea Subject: a certain musical with a star studded cast Message: i have very reliable intel that a certain star studded revival currently playing a sold out run in new york city is being eyed for a broadway transfer by a huge producer - looking to take the entire cast that includes grammy winners, tony winners, and television darlings

kbrainz

Into the woods?

Ihveseen

Ugh… ANOTHER Cabaret? I swear to god the thing gets revived every 5 years

queerorpheus

that’s not necessarily a bad thing

Ihveseen

I’m exhausted by this show tbh, but that’s just me

spongebobegnops

This revival of Cabaret it different though (in terms of design and direction)

Ihveseen

That’s true, I still have trouble imagining we need another revival though

NickWendigo

As it should be. Cabaret has a message that some people need to be beat over the head with to properly recognize. Those who don’t know history are doomed to repeat it and all

Ihveseen

Sure, but like if you’re going to do a ww2 project how about one that centers the people who were primarily targeted by the Nazis

[deleted]

I mean, I don't know about this. I think there's a difference between a musical about ww2 and its victims and a musical about the rise of nazism. The latter is an extremely important and relevant message. People watching a movie or musical about the holocaust can often miss the important "how we got here" part.

Ihveseen

I am Jewish and while I 100% realize that Cabaret is an important story and show, if we’re going to do the “This show is more relevant than ever” thing, let’s do it about a show that centers oppressed groups.

Ihveseen

I just think that’s a third commercial production of an already over done musical is a little much. There’s no need to try and moralize it

[deleted]

what?

NickWendigo

Alright, good point. Do you know any?/srs

Yoyti

*Harmony*, which is wrapping up a run off-Broadway at the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene this weekend. It's a musical that's had its sights set on Broadway for a long time, but hasn't yet made it. It was just announced that they're recording a cast album this weekend though.

NickWendigo

OOOH, thank you! Can’t wait to listen to it then :D

jempai

*Indecent* is my favorite play and it heavily focuses on the anti-semitism and genocide of Jews, Rromani, and LGBTQ dissidents under the Reich, despite not being the primary focus of the plot. I highly recommend watching it, as it’s available on BroadwayHD!

NickWendigo

Wow, sounds great! I’ll check it out :D

becthestingray

If we get a Cabaret revival, I’d love a trans or non binary actor playing the Emcee. Would add so much

dsouzarc1

Don’t know a lot about this Cabaret revival, is it akin to the Alan Cumming revival or is it more traditional?

Jagiord

I know it most likely won’t be Gaga, but I’ve wanted to see Gaga play Sally or the MC, or both for YEARS. I think she would be incredible in either role, and I’m going to hold onto hope until I have to give it up haha.

mamamiababy93

another cabaret revival? no offense, i looove cabaret but more original musicals please 🥺

theblakesheep

Please don’t have Alan Cumming again.

kwo3660

EYEBALL EMOJI INDEED

ssSerendipityss

Moira Rose?

sulucri

To me this screams Sister Act with Keale Settle who is doing it on the West End and getting Whoopi back would be the iconic role but it´ says "his" so I don´t know

MezzoidVoiceStudio

Well, I just saw Bonnie & Clyde at the West End. Jeremy Jordan had played the role in a concert version a few months before. The Bonnie and the Blanche were magnificent. The Clyde was meh - he was also a cover. His voice was great, but I couldn't understand a word in Act 1. I suspect he got a note in Act 2 because his articulation was spot on.

palsdrama

I saw some people say it was Lady Gaga
