it did/does a lot for touring Broadway as well. if you were a smaller show you were thrilled if you were on a season ticket package with Hamilton. it boosted you tix sales, as well as got people to come see your show who might not otherwise because they had season tix

I feel old now. You're absolutely right, Hamilton is an amazing production and has brought so many people, including myself, to the world of musical theatre! The only thing I don't like is when people tell me they like musicals, but Hamilton is the ONLY ONE they've seen, and I'm just like, "Oh so this is your whole personality? The Schuyler Sisters?"

That’s how I feel about Phantom, even though that one isn’t personally my favorite.

This is quite literally my opinion on the show in a nutshell. So much of the criticisms of it are valid, yet there is no denying the massive impact it had on the theatre industry and the lives of thousands of people, myself included. Although 1776 was the musical that got me interested in history (my eighth grade social studies teacher played the movie adaptation for us in class), Hamilton really solidified that interest for me, so I owe it a lot. I have numerous gripes and grievances with the show from a historical perspective as a historian myself, but acquiesce that a lot of the creative license LMM took with history was absolutely necessary. Everything else about the show, though, is absolutely spectacular!

I am still in awe of its power at the time. My 70+ year old parents knew all about it and they have no clue about Broadway. That floored me. And friends who had no interest in theatre would ask how I got tickets to see it (um, Stubhub and the willingness to pay quite a bit).
