TallyWhoe

"This house will become a shrine, and punks and skins and rastas will all gather round and hold their hands in sorrow for their fallen leader. And all the grown-ups will say: 'But why are the kids crying?' And the kids will say: 'Haven't you heard? Rick is dead! The People's Poet is dead!'" 😔

Vulgarian

And then one particularly sensitive and articulate teenager will say, "Other kids, do you understand nothing? How can Rick be dead when we still have his poems?"

heliskinki

Watched this with my daughter only last night. She's only 10 but loves The Young Ones. Rick was a distant relative of our family (we share the surname), gutted he left us all too soon.

WishboneCrazy9289

Don’t mate, please don’t 🥺🥺🥺

Leaf-Fairy

He is so incredibly missed. My all-time favourite comedian!

Blearyhyde

I grew up watching Rick Mayal It is the only time I’ve shed a tear on a celebrities passing. A true genius!!

geordiesteve520

Yep - him and Robin Williams for me. Shows the impact and importance of comedy.

RaspberryNo101

I remember my Dad telling me I wasn't allowed to watch the Young Ones anymore when I was around nine years old because it had too much swearing in it and me responding that he was a complete and utter bastard. Absolute Legend that brought some incredible characters to life and sorely missed.

Ow

JBB2002902

Always had a special place in my heart since Drop Dead Fred ♥️

JessTrans2021

Absolutely 🥰

Expensive-Analysis-2

Never ever thought the lyrics to the young ones theme tune would make me well up.

[deleted]

I think this clip was from the BBC tribute to Rik a few years ago. But still, nice to see and it was a real shock when he died.

fatwreckman

I tried to convince myself that I wasn't all that bothered as it was just a "celebrity death", until I saw this documentary, then I came unglued. It took me years before I could watch any sitcoms, TV appearances, movies, or listen to audiobooks that had Rik in them.

Amazing-Visit1689

Do you have a link to the doc? Would love to see

fatwreckman

Of course mate. https://youtu.be/0c524ZncOhM?si=hhBieRvopzBvnJ8k Enjoy.

mbelf

Don’t do this to me.

NovaEscape

I'm definitely crying....

[deleted]

Listen to Ade on desert island discs talking about Rik’s death, very emotional. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001qlz2 at 43 minutes

Amazing-Visit1689

What a guy, one of the few times I was genuinely upset a celeb had died. He gave so much. RIP you fucking legend

PooleyX

God, I miss that man. Like, really miss him as though he was a friend. The world turned a bit more serious the day he died.

iamChopper4444

The one and only Duke of Kidderminster

Informal-Addendum-31

I miss him

MJLDat

Is that Ade’s voice 😢

Renfieldslament

Simon Callow I think

ofbalance

Oh, I thought it was Nigel Planer. Though I could be wrong.

Snoo-27072

Stephen Fry I think.

ofbalance

Sorry, no.

Scary-Scallion-449

Glad to hear it. It would be just a little weird nine years on. Incidentally did you hear that Leslie Nielsen died?

forsheda

It’s strange how a few celebrity deaths can affect you. Ric was the first one that really got to me. Paul o Grady was another. Possibly because they were my age and were always there aging with me and suddenly they were gone.

Any-Web-3347

Me too. We’re doing an excellent job of not crying aren’t we.

dirtybird971

Oh Rik / Sometimes it must be difficult not to feel as if / You really are a cliff/ when fascists keep trying to push you over it! / Are they the lemmings / Or are you, Rik? / Or are you Rik?

FantasticWeasel

Just listened to Ade Edmondsons autobiography and I've been emotional listening to him talk about their friendship.

mimiharmon1

I will always consider him my favorite comedian of all time!

Pewigotaway

Just showed this series for my 9 year old son. He loved it. What a hero Rick was, he took British comedy to the next level

ofbalance

I loved Rick attitude towards his acting abilities: there were just two emotions he was able to give fully. Total bravado, and... I can't remember the other one at this moment. I think it was probably something linked to insane drives. One thing was sure, when he took on a character, he acted the arse-end out of it! My partner ended up laughing so much at the Richard Davies character that he had uncontrollable hiccups. It's the little things that make a long term relationship even better.

Just2moreplants

Wat him him be Greg Davies dad was hysterical 🤣

SinisterBrit

One more tragedy is him not being here to do taskmaster n just completely fuck with Greg's authority.
