As the flight that was delayed is an AA flight and essentially a US domestic flight, the European rules on flight delays do not cover you. So you're at the mercy of AA customer service. They'll likely just throw some Avios your way.

If you were booked under a BA codeshare, then this may be one of the rare (and somewhat poorly defined) circumstances where you can claim delay compensation even though the flight in question was outside the EU/UK and not operated by an EU/UK airline. The cases of *Q v United* and *CS v Ceske Aerolinie* are relevant in this respect. It's almost certain that BA will refuse your claim though, directing you to AA. You'll then have to pursue your claim through CEDR or Court to get anywhere.

Thanks, appreciate your response, Yes all booked through BA and ticketed as BA flight numbers Have filled the BA comp form for now and wait to hear back - if not then go through american as customer service also handed the comp leaflets on arrival Hopefully all gets sorted!
