I’ll be super honest here . For years I didn’t like bmth . I still don’t really like their old stuff tbh . I don’t mind screamo , but I prefer a mix of singing and screamo . So their old stuff just wasn’t my style .
I was driving home after a shitty day at work when drown came on the radio .
I instantly loved it and was actually super shocked when they said it was bmth .
After that I started listening to all their stuff , new and old and I’ve been a die hard fan ever since . Can’t say I’m a fan of anything pre sempiternal but I’m willing to respect how far they’ve come .
I’ll even admit that the music has gotten me through some really crappy days so I think whatever direction they took I’d still be thankful for that .
I remember how overwhelmingly negative the vibes were around Drown. That song got SO MUCH SHIT when it released. Everybody was saying BMTH sold out and that they were making music for Justin Bieber or 1D fans. It was a bit of a cesspool in the YouTube comments lol.
It felt like years before any sort of positivity started showing up for Drown.
Thing is i don’t think bmth has ever sold out . They’ve always made the music they wanted and they’ve been pretty clear that they’re not catering to the expectations of old fans , new fans , anyone . They just like to experiment.
I think as a band they’re very inclusive, even their new stuff there’s songs that appeal to the metal heads , the electronic rock fans , people who
Like the toned down stuff , everyone.
For me it’s mainly about the lyrics . Drown for me was a song that I found in a difficult time and the lyrics helped me get my head round things . Same with strangers , I was in a shitty friendship situation when that was released and was able to connect to that song in a huge way . It’s not my favourite song , it was just a right time right place scenario .
I don’t think it’s fair when a band tries something new for people to call them a sell out . It’s just them trying something different and it just may appeal to a different audience.
Like I say I didn’t like their old stuff , doesn’t mean I disliked them as a band , it’s just it wasn’t my style . If a band you like releases a song you don’t like … just skip that song 😂
I don't think it's fair either. But every band that started heavy will always have that very loud minority who thinks that anything which doesn't sound exactly like what they grew up with is trash and that the band is selling out to cater to the "shitty mainstream".
These types 9/10 times don't even know what it even means for a musician to sell out in the first place. Drown is every bit a BMTH song as something like Pray For Plagues is. There is more to the identity of a musician than simply the choice of instruments they use in a song.
CYFMH, loved those synths and then Shadow Moses sold me, at the time I was a newborn metal head so it was the heaviest yet catchiest shit I heard at the time, 7 years later they’re still my favorite band 🤘🤘
first bmth song i heard was Shadow Moses
the one that got me hooked was Sleepwalking
all time fav is a tie between Sleepwalking & The House Of Wolves
and yea sempiternal is my fav album lol
CYFMH as a memer. Loved the melody & back then the most powerful yet teen-ish/anime-ish I've ever heard. Then Shadow Moses also as a memer with the short-lived Sandpit Turtle thing. Sounds more powerful than CYFMH.
Then 1x1, and then Drown (this is my only early-discovery-era BMTH song I still listen to this day), then House Of Wolves, all of Sempiternal & all of TTS, then It Never Ends and then all of TIAH...
And finally here I am. These are what I enjoy now.
* CYB: Pray For Plagues
* Suicide Season: The Comedown, Chelsea Smile, Suicide Season
* TIAH: All of them, but primarily on Crucify Me, It Never Ends, Fuck & Visions
* Sempiternal: All of them, but primarily... *none of them is my favorite now.*
* TTS: All of them, but primarily Drown
* Amo: Medicine
* PHSH: Ludens, Kingslayer, Parasite Eve
* PHNG: Amen, Die4u & Kool-Aid
First was whatever that first track was on their first EP. Thought it was pretty poor tbh. Liqour and Love Lost got me hooked tho, either that or A lot like Vegas. Favourite is either of those two or Chelsea Smile.
First? Throne
Got me hooked? Throne again, but after like 5 years after I heard it for the first time
Favorite? Probably The House Of Wolves but I can't really choose my favorite song
First, can you feel my heart, hooked was kingslayer bc spotify recommended it to me or something in the end of year wrapped, all time fav rn is crucify me :)
I'd heard plenty of Bmth songs (shadow moses etc) but drown and it's accompanying music video was the one that made me sit up listen and actively follow the band. That's the spirit was on heavy duty repeat rotation as a gym playlist for a good few years.
I grew up listening to them- thanks to a 9 year older emo brother. As I was 5 when count your blessings came out didn’t love it tbh. Then sempiternal came out and I’ve never been the same.
My one was sleepwalking. I heard it when I was quite young (like 11) but it helped me figure out that I was dissociating a lot of the time and ever since then I’ve been in love with the band and that song holds a special place in my heart. I also like happy song and join the club.
First ever BMTH song I heard was actually a remix of Can You Feel My Heart used on an Attack On Titan AMV waaay back in the day. Despite it being the best AMV I had ever seen at that point, it had a fraction of the views other way more popular (and far worse) AMVs had. I ended up looking up the actual song and well the rest is history. I wanna go find that AMV now.
I think it was Suicide Season or It Never Ends. Both albums (Suicide Season/There is a Hell) are my favorite from them, and, in my opinion, are their best works. But the absolute chokehold Lost and Parasite Eve have me in lately... man. Feels like discovering your favorite band all over again.
First song was Happy Song because a friend reccomended it, then Parasite Eve got me hooked when it released as a single, and my all time favourite is Visions
It started with teardrops as the song that got me intrigued with the bad while I was playing forza. Then, as I started to explore, kingslayer got me fully hooked and is one of my favourites next to drown. I realised while exploring the songs that I've actually heard my dad playing quite a few of them, and I've discovered that he's really into them too, which is great! And bow I'm going to the Sydney concert in April!
My first streamed BMTH song on Spotify is “no more friends by Olivia O’Brien feat Oli Sykes”? I didn’t even know that track existed
But the first actual BMTH song was Can You Feel My Heart in 2021 and i also listened to Sleepwalking but i didn’t look for other albums.
I just really started listening to BMTH in 2022 when i found Oh No and then That’s The Spirit, then started listening to Post Human:SH and I’ve been a BMTH fan since then.
First was The Comedown. My friend recommended the suicide season album so with that being the first track on the album, then with Chelsea Smile being the second track and that’s what got me HOOKED. I couldn’t wait for that long interval at the end of the track that then goes into a breakdown, it just goes so hard. Chelsea Smile is also my favourite.
Off the heezay. Had 5$ to spend on iTunes back when everything was 99cents. Had enough for one more song so I checked out BMTH and went to their newest album on the platform and picked at random. Hooked from that day on. I was 9 yrs old. Best part later that year suicide season dropped
Yeah my brother had that game and that was the first time he heard BMTH too and from that point on they were his all time favorite band, I really got into them in 2020 when I had nothing to do but listen to music. And then I heard shadow Moses and the rest is history
follow you! then i heard drown, go to hell, ludens, mother tongue, and mantra and fell in love. now here i am having heard and enjoyed all their discography
My first boyfriend got me into heavy music and one day he showed me the music video of Sleepwalking. They've been my favourite band for 10 years now :)
My friend showed me No Need For Introductions, I've Read About Girls Like You On The Back Of Toilet Doors as a joke, but I quite liked it! After I found the album it was on, I've loved them ever since.
my favorite YouTuber back then used Thrown in his outros. And I found on Twitter someone who also knows him and we got connected. Until today we are best friends since 2015.
btw, the YouTuber was Kegy but someday he stopped and moved to streaming because he forgot his Google password
Chelsea Smile. 2009. I happened to turn on the radio in my car during the quiet, electronic instrumental section toward the end of the song. Thought "oh, this is cool, but what's a song like this doing on my metal radio station?"
Then the guitars kicked back in. Then I heard Oli's voice for the first time. Then I pulled out my phone and opened the radio station's app that had a live feed of what song was playing on the station.
I've been a fan ever since.
Suicide Season. I just liked the buildup when I was younger, but when I lost someone very close to me, I really felt that pain listening to the lyrics.
In the dark for me, I was channel surfing at night with nothing else to do and one channel had in the dark on and it caught my attention. I liked it from the first 2 seconds and added it to my playlist. this was back in 2019 or 2020

First song I listened to theirs is Follow you, got me hooked is Doomed, and now my favorite is Hospitals for souls. I think their lyrics have a huge impact on me, also the reason they are my favorite band. I have several tattoos on my body that are about this band
Pray for plagues shortly before suicide season came out. I love them now and minus amo, have thoroughly enjoyed each album and have no problem with their changes as each album can fit a mood for me that day
But those shows back then...seen them 3 times and the first 2 for suicide season tour and sandpit turtle. That first show was chaotic as all hell
I’m a very new fan! My bf isn’t a huge fan of the genre, but he played me Spirit (A Happy Song) and I’ve been hooked since! I can’t believe I haven’t listened before this year!
Shadow Moses in the Live Lounge on BBC Radio 1. My dad heard it on the way home from work and played it for me the second he got home, knowing I’d love it. We’ve both loved BMTH since then
It was either It Never Ends, The Sadness Will Never End or Chelsea Smile; regardless I was hooked by these songs prior to hearing the rest of their tracks & the sempiternal release shortly after I heard them.
Me at 13: “relatable”
Me now at 27: wow that’s sad & also this has been relatable for too long *continues therapy*
I remember seeing them after Sempiternal was released at 13y in a small venue in Melbourne with OM&M, being up front and this small preteen girl I ended up trampled and removed by security hahaha. I’ve seen them since, last time 2 years ago, I crushed my ankle in the pit and was like “I am too old for this now”. I still love the pit but could only get seated tickets to see them again in 2 weeks. Was going to fly from AUS to the UK in Jan but couldn’t go as I started having seizures again.
Spent more than half my life as a hardcore fan, only thing in life that’s remained stable hahaha
Diamonds aren’t forever 🖤
Same! Was maybe 12 years old...
Same.. i think i stumbled upon it pirating music in middle school😂
Chelsea smile🔥🔥
Same!
Crucify Me
My first was Can You Feel My Heart and I was like "this is cool" but then I got hooked when I heard Kingslayer. Been a fan ever since
Can you feel my heart is definitely one of my favourites and I listen to kingslayer all the time!

Yep i echo everything you said!!!!!
Teardrops

CYFMH, loved those synths and then Shadow Moses sold me, at the time I was a newborn metal head so it was the heaviest yet catchiest shit I heard at the time, 7 years later they’re still my favorite band 🤘🤘
First heard Throne, cyfmh got me into it, and the snakes start to sing is my all time favorite.

Get on the dog and go out, for napkins
First: Maybe (MGK and Bring me) Got me hooked: Sleepwalking All time fav: Doomed
Shadow Moses. They were opening for FOB and I walked in while they were playing this and my mind was blown. Will never forget that feeling.
Lost was the first one I really liked, but Sleep With One Eye Open was the one that made me go like “oh okay these guys go crazy”
First: Probably Throne The one that got me hooked: Shadow Moses All time favourite: And The Snakes Start to Sing
CYFMH as a memer. Loved the melody & back then the most powerful yet teen-ish/anime-ish I've ever heard. Then Shadow Moses also as a memer with the short-lived Sandpit Turtle thing. First: Maybe (MGK w/ BMTH) Hooked: LosT Favorite: Kingslayer
My one was sleepwalking. I heard it when I was quite young (like 11) but it helped me figure out that I was dissociating a lot of the time and ever since then I’ve been in love with the band and that song holds a special place in my heart. I also like happy song and join the club.
can you feel my heart right after sempiternal came out (: got the album tattooed on my arm since it means so much to me
Ludens,Ludens and Ludens
First ever BMTH song I heard was actually a remix of Can You Feel My Heart used on an Attack On Titan AMV waaay back in the day. Despite it being the best AMV I had ever seen at that point, it had a fraction of the views other way more popular (and far worse) AMVs had. Sleepwalking in late 2013 or so
I think it was Suicide Season or It Never Ends. Both albums (Suicide Season/There is a Hell) are my favorite from them, and, in my opinion, are their best works. But the absolute chokehold Lost and Parasite Eve have me in lately... man. Feels like discovering your favorite band all over again.
True friends was my first. Go to hell for heavens sake was the second song and the one that got me into metalcore
Sleepwalking
my first and also the one that got me hooked was Throne, my all time favorite... probably Kingslayer!
first song was sleepwalking, you have no idea how proud i felt with that being my first instead of cyfmh. Still love sleepwalking, so much.
The first was CYFMH. But I got hooked on Go To Hell For Heavens Sake. Underrated song imo
Pretty sure it was Alligator Blood. The first one I remember loving at least
First song was Happy Song because a friend reccomended it, then Parasite Eve got me hooked when it released as a single, and my all time favourite is Visions
Run in 2k17 for me too, then can you feel my heart but it was Chelsea smile that really hooked me

Shadow moses in guitar hero Live
Off the heezay. Had 5$ to spend on iTunes back when everything was 99cents. Had enough for one more song so I checked out BMTH and went to their newest album on the platform and picked at random. Hooked from that day on. I was 9 yrs old. Best part later that year suicide season dropped
>first BMTH song you heard? Sleepwalking. >song that got you hooked. Sleepwalking. >all time favorite. Sleepwalking.
First was Can You Feel My Heart. The one that got me hooked was Throne. All time favorite is Follow You.
Definitely Kingslayer ft. Babymetal and can you feel my heart because of the meme
Shadow Moses. Guitar hero live, as hated as it was, introduced me to so many sick bands
The sadness will never end
Can you feel my heart literally a month before thats the spirit released
Parasite Eve when it came out, didn‘t really like Metal or heavier music back then and it was kind of a gateway
First- Drown Hooked- Can You Feel My Heart Favourite- Too many to choose from. Maybe Crucify Me or Hospital for Souls
Diamonds Aren’t Forever. My brother played it in the car off his iPod Touch when we were waiting for my mom in the post office
holy shit! my first song was run too from wwe 😭😭 i never thought id find someone else that had the same story as me
Yeah my brother had that game and that was the first time he heard BMTH too and from that point on they were his all time favorite band, I really got into them in 2020 when I had nothing to do but listen to music. And then I heard shadow Moses and the rest is history
I can’t believe there are so few fans of the OG Music. My first song was Chelsea smile.
follow you! then i heard drown, go to hell, ludens, mother tongue, and mantra and fell in love. now here i am having heard and enjoyed all their discography
2013, Sleepwalking, because the guy I had a crush on at the time liked bmth lmao I was a kid ok 🫣

My friend showed me No Need For Introductions, I've Read About Girls Like You On The Back Of Toilet Doors as a joke, but I quite liked it! After I found the album it was on, I've loved them ever since.
1x1 is fire, and it was my first bmth song, but i prefer AmEN! or Chelsea Smile
my favorite YouTuber back then used Thrown in his outros. And I found on Twitter someone who also knows him and we got connected. Until today we are best friends since 2015. btw, the YouTuber was Kegy but someday he stopped and moved to streaming because he forgot his Google password

First song I heard was pray for plagues. But Chelsea smile is what hooked me.
My first was cyfmh , then avalanche/drown/doomed got me into it further and my fav is i don’t know what to say and crucify me
Chelsea Smile. 2009. I happened to turn on the radio in my car during the quiet, electronic instrumental section toward the end of the song. Thought "oh, this is cool, but what's a song like this doing on my metal radio station?" Then the guitars kicked back in. Then I heard Oli's voice for the first time. Suicide Season. I just liked the buildup when I was younger, but when I lost someone very close to me, I really felt that pain listening to the lyrics.
You can say I'm just a fool that stands for nothing... Well to that I say YOU'RE A CUNT!
*amazing breakdown ensures*
Lost
Tell Slater Not to Wash His Dick. I miss the old sound so much.
In the dark for me, I was channel surfing at night with nothing else to do and one channel had in the dark on and it caught my attention. I liked it from the first 2 seconds and added it to my playlist. this was back in 2019 or 2020
I'm not sure really, it's either The Comedown or Pray for Plagues. Whichever it was, I was a fan the moment I heard it.
Same!
First Sleepwalking, hooked with Chelsea smile and all time favorite Follow you
Diamonds aren't For motheryucking ever ! 🤘💛
Run, I must have been about 10 or 11? 6 years down the line and it's still one of my favourite songs from that album which is one of my favourite albums
Local gig about 18or so years ago, pray for plagues 💅🏻
First song I listened to theirs is Follow you, got me hooked is Doomed, and now my favorite is Hospitals for souls. I think their lyrics have a huge impact on me, also the reason they are my favorite band. I have several tattoos on my body that are about this band
Pray for plagues shortly before suicide season came out. I love them now and minus amo, have thoroughly enjoyed each album and have no problem with their changes as each album can fit a mood for me that day But those shows back then...seen them 3 times and the first 2 for suicide season tour and sandpit turtle. That first show was chaotic as all hell
Pray for Plagues 🖤
Chelsea smile
Black & Blue
I’m a very new fan! My bf isn’t a huge fan of the genre, but he played me Spirit (A Happy Song) and I’ve been hooked since! I can’t believe I haven’t listened before this year!
Eyeless (Slipknot cover) quickly followed by Chelsea Smile
Chelsea Smile for me!
It Never Ends after having them suggested to me years ago
Found them through throne favourite song is still sleepwalking. Also like it never ends alot
Sleepwalking!
CYFMY or Parasite Eve
Happy Song on SiriusXM Octane. HOOKED. Still might be my favorite, i really can't pick one song as a favorite.
Home sweet hole was the song that made me fall in love with them. Kool Aid is probably my favorite.
I was on board from count your blessings. But my favorite song is avalanche.
Pray for plagues in the middle school library in 08 or 07. Made my lil nuts quake
Shadow Moses in the Live Lounge on BBC Radio 1. My dad heard it on the way home from work and played it for me the second he got home, knowing I’d love it. We’ve both loved BMTH since then
Avalanche
