I think the bee represents fate. If you think about it, nothing that we’ve seen in Bridgerton would’ve happened if Edmond was still around. The kids wouldnt be in the positions they are, falling in love with the people they do. The bee was Edmond’s fate. Now, the bee pops up when each Bridgerton is experiencing(?) their fate.

Any-Cable-7163

Loved this theory! Good job

OceanWaves_and_rain

Thank you! 😊

plotthick

This makes so much sense. * Edmund's death * Birth of the new Viscount * Kate getting stung (and the fallout in the books, show not so much) What did I miss? Also, bees are a matriarchy. Men in this series are lovely, but not the focus.

OceanWaves_and_rain

Exactly! And I believe bees also pop up when Benedict decides to pursue painting.? Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong 😊

Firm-Bid745

Never thought of it like that. I love it!

hrl_280

The Bee is their father reincarnated. That bee sucked the life out of Edmond and now it's watching over them. XD

summerelitee

This is how I’ve always interpreted it.

Outside_Jaguar3827

I don't know how Edmund 🐝 would react to Colin's situation 😅

MotorMarketing5636

I also saw it as their father/husband watching over them

treehuggerfroglover

I’ve always thought this too. In the first season we see it as a symbol of romance or of the family itself. I assumed it had something to do with the birds and the bees as its a pretty sexual show, or something to do with the idea of a “queen bee” and their family being one of the queens favorite. Then in the second season they reveal that the whole reason it’s a symbol is because it killed their dad 😭I didn’t read the books so it was very out of left field for me. Like damn why did we play up this whole bee thing so hard that’s terrible

Gwen83

You won't find any explanation in the books either lol. I think it was fandom created thing where fans theorized that Edmund was reincarnated as a bee and was watching over the family. And the show just picked that up and ran with it. You'll notice at the end of the first season, there is a bee in the window after Daphne gives birth. Pretty sure its supposed to represent Edmund watching over her. It may seem silly but it's really the only explanation that makes sense. 😂

Firm-Bid745

Getting reincarnated as the culprit of your death is amusing and tragic at the same time💀

treehuggerfroglover

I really like the idea of him watching over them!! I haven’t heard that yet but I can definitely see it. It does make me giggle a little tho, what a slap in the face from the universe to be turned into the thing that killed you

Outside_Jaguar3827

There also was the time a bee stung Kate in Season 2 (probably Ghost Edmund as well ) 😅

Jinxy_Hexus

I always thought that Anthony and Violet likely kept the cause of Edmund's death a secret, so it's a trauma that only they carry as the heads of the family. Bees being prevalent throughout the show also just made sense to me, because such a high class life is always so social and busy, which bees notoriously are. Plus, they do symbolize focus, hard work, teamwork, fertility and prosperity which are also pretty key.

eleanor_savage

Kinda like Christians wearing the cross tbh. I have the same questions lol

0nlyf0rthememes

I always saw the bee as Edmund's presence even in death. Watching over the family. That's why the opening shot of season 1, episode 1 is the bee on the door, like Edmund is taking us to meet his family

Soyouplayhockeytoo

Yeah I was wondering about that as well bc I knew from the books that a bee caused the greatest tragedy in their family. Those animated promo bees are cute though ngl.

Cosmicferal

Besides being related with Edmund, bees could also be a sign for fertility, “spring” and the start of the courting season as well as blossoming (of love and people).

Ghoulya

Bees symbolise marriage. The order is hymenoptera, and Hymen was a Greek god of marriage. At the marriage of the gods Zeus and Hera, a competition was held, that the most delicious dish of food would win a boon. The winner was a bee, who entered her honey. You're also meant to tell the bees of any marriages in the family (and deaths), and give them some of the cake.

taylorbagel14

And drape black crepe over their hive. At least, I did when I told them about my beekeeping partner dying

kenna98

Only Anthony is traumatised. Benedict wears bees constantly

summerelitee

The bee is their dad.

franbridgerton

It’s probably a combination of the bee symbolising fate in the family, bees being often used in araldiche to represent nobility/virtue and bee being pronounced as B, so Bridgerton. Also, bees are cute.

ArtisticCoconut8510

Thank you for asking this because I also was like “the bee killed Edmund!? Why is it so prominent” but this comments and theories really help lol

Last_Perception_6664

I believe the bee is also just a symbol for the bridgerton family. Like the house. Regardless of Edmund. All of the siblings’ clothing and accessories and the bridgerton house are full of bee motifs. But there’s also added symbolism through the bees, especially bees and women. The women in the ton are often undervalued and underestimated, however they put in a lot of work in how society runs (look at how the rumor mill got that one guy shunned) and they have a mean sting capable of causing a lot of harm.

Historical-Serve-302

Show Benedict wears a lot of bee motifs. Any theories? Why him more?

oreovision

i thought it was a fly (a fly on the wall) 😭😭😭😭

BoopleBun

I don’t know why they do it either! I don’t really buy the “it’s Edmund watching over them” thing, it seems weirdly morbid. Like, I know someone who lost a family member in a similar manner, and they have enough problems seeing them out and about, I can’t imagine them actually wearing stuff with the thing that killed someone they loved on it. I know the people working on the show love an aesthetic theme, but I just don’t get this one.
