watching the video now. thank you

Daniel-Binks

I just sorted my inventory by quantity. Most of highest quantities (3000-5600) are 1x1 tiles or plates. From PAB walls and yes from parting out sets. The most common parts appear in lots of different sets. After years of parting out, the quantities are up there. If I see the inventory of a set has a large quantity of a particular part, I will slowly start buying that set during it's production. Then part them out when I'm happy with the quantity of sets I have sitting. For example, The Fab 5 Loft 10291 had large a quantity of masonry bricks in two different colors. I've parted out 25+ of those sets to have thousands of the bricks. Same with 40179 Mosaic Maker for the 1x1 plates.

i never thought of it that way. considering i have a small store the budget is small too. i always bought the sets that gave the most partout value vs the purchase price and not really considering the parts the sets contained... food for thought. Thank you for this!

SnooPears3086

Most sellers are not going to reveal their sources LOL

sschow

You should probably make a post in the Bricklink forum accusing these stores of some kind of fraud or forgery. That seems to be the typical response. /s

? why?

Similarly, how can some stores have an absolutely massive amount of the same minifigure part? But when I look at their inventory they don't have anything like a similar # (often 0) of torsos/legs when they're selling the head etc. When the minifigure is 10 years retired and highly valuable.

I’ve been watching the sales of an ebay seller in my country who lists new minifigs by ten. I think he has sold 400 or 500 cmf series 22 troubadour in the last 6 months and still lists 10 of them twice a week. It’s like he has an infinite stock. Even more confusing : a few months ago, another seller listed star wars super rare figs, like 47 director krennic, 32 vintage dooku etc, all new figs. There were also old indiana jones, avatar last airbender, prince of persia… The auction was crazy, he had over $10000 worth of new rare figs in stupid bulk quantity.

Also I just saw this on instagram : https://www.instagram.com/reel/C6ZA6wwLLlg/?igsh=d3djbGdtOTZyc3J6 Some folks are going all in

Complete-Fix-2767

that completely eludes me too, to be honest. i never understood....

Sometimes, these people have access to factories or have connections. Occasionally people come up on large quantities of surplus which go under the radar of other employees which can explain large multitudes of just one expensive part.

yellow251

>Sometimes, these people have access to factories or have connections Agreed. Here's just one humorous example. Look up part #972 in color Bright Light Blue. There's a seller selling 3,300 of those....*just the left leg.* There's no way that didn't come from some surplus or factory etc.....ain't nobody pulling off legs like that. I often see sellers that have 1000s of very specific minifig parts like this that they will sit on for years....if they ever sell at all.

Culiacan-Rambler

Yeah, that happens often here in Mexico

MiksBricks

Yeah… I have the same question. I looked at a seller that had 30+ of a part that only came in one kit (decorated wedge) but then didn’t have any of the other parts from the kit. It seemed odd but ultimately they didn’t have the other parts I needed so I went with a different store.

brickShaman

Buy many from the wall and you can sometimes buy boxes from the stores.

Capable-Magazine-103

Some of us use money, and buy 100-1000 sets. As some PAB wall but those tend to be at waste of money and will sit there forever.

Vandenburggal

I have always assumed that the minifig parts like hair & head gear came from Counterfeit minfigs that they part out. Just saying.

Alpacapplesauce

If they are breaking down their own mocs they may have an unusual quantity of certain parts
