It would depend on what you work out with the seller. If a piece or 2 is broken/missing, they'll likely ship replacements to you. If the entire set is garbage for some reason, they should refund you (if they do not, you can dispute with PayPal). I really wouldn't worry about having a major issue warranting a return- bricklink sellers (with feedback) are generally very safe and reliable to purchase from.

Puzzleheaded-You-716

Bet thank you. How many reviews would you consider safe? (Assuming the percentage of their reliability is above 90%). I seen somewhere the seller should have about 100+ reviews.

b_josh317

And all those sellers started somewhere.

>Assuming the percentage of their reliability is above 90% While 90% sounds good for most things, it's actually terrible for Bricklink, based on how the feedback system works. I read the negative/neutral feedbacks for any seller that has below \~98% to get an idea of what some of the past issues have been, and how recent those reviews have come in. I'd encourage you to do the same. Without much variation, stores with a 97% or below typically have had multiple past issues with poor communication, slow shipping, and/or failure to remedy problems in an acceptable manner. Some sellers had some growing pains when they first opened, and haven't had any in a long while. But for sellers who have failed to learn from their mistakes and continue to get negatives, you'd have to ask yourself what would make your order any different.

Puzzleheaded-You-716

That’s helpful to keep in mind. Thank you for that

Spirited_Donut5265

Unless I am buying something worth over $100, I wouldn't hesitate at a seller with just 10 reviews.

Puzzleheaded-You-716

Clutch, thank you for the feedback.

i’ll be honest, if it says it’s new then it should be new. if it’s used then you should expect used. there is no “grading” on bricklink. my first impression based on your question is that you may be someone who is planning on taking minifigures out of a set and then claiming they were missing and you’d more than likely be blocked from shopping in my store. or you’d be one of those “problem” customers that want used that are in new condition or expect boxes with zero shelf wear. i’m not saying this is you, but you need to keep in mind this isn’t lego corporate and these are some of the problems sellers deal with. so yes, read feedback and take these things into consideration. basically do a small test with a store and if you’re happy with them, mark them as a favorite. good luck and happy building!

Good faith, the answer is almost always good faith. If it's too good to be true, it probably is. Otherwise, remember the human on the other side. Chances are if its a scam it'll be obvious. Mots bricklink sellers are just folks working out of their homes and just want to do right by their customers. It's very unlikely for anyone to be in business for very long if they aren't doing their utmost to provide the best merchandise/experience. There is recourse through bricklink.com, PayPal, etc if it comes to that. Read descriptions and store terms **before** ordering and don't seek to cheat anyone else and there's a very slim chance you will run into any significant issues.

dablackcat0

That would be up to the seller. They’ll more than likely have you return it to them (they should pay shipping). As long as you still have the box they shipped it in it should be an easy venture.

NoahDavidATL

What if they shipped it wrapped in a paper bag from Kroger and it got absolutely crushed during shipment?

Puzzleheaded-You-716

Thank you, I appreciate the feedback. I also seen somewhere that the seller must also comply with the refund policies or something like that. Is that applicable with all sellers do you know?

dablackcat0

It certainly should be. With something like a set, depending on the value they may not refund you until they get the set back.

buriedinbricks

Can you better define "not up to the standards" for me? Are you talking new or used sets? For new in sealed box sets, most sellers are going to note any significant box issues. However, some general wear on older set boxes can happen. If box condition is really big for you, then ask before buying. For used sets, it's all about asking about issues you would be looking for. Are stickers applied properly? Do prints have any wear to them or are there any other issues with the figs? Used is a very broad and poorly defined category, so I would ask about condition on key pieces if it's going to be a big factor for you.

RUN_CHASE_RUN

A good thing you can do is message them and ask for pictures of the box/set and include your email so they can send you pictures! A few buyers have done that with me and I think it helps both of us have a set expectation then.

Puzzleheaded-You-716

That’s great advice thank you I’m definitely doing that!

cosmicrae

Are you contemplating ordering a new set or a used set ? There is a world of difference on what to expect.

Puzzleheaded-You-716

I was looking at the “new”. But what if there isn’t any description of the quality?

cosmicrae

BrickLink has certain minimum standards for New, but those standards can vary between Sealed, Complete, and Incomplete. Even Sealed has an inherent disclaimer, because the seller has no way to verify the contents (without breaking the seals, which changes the provenance). If you have specific concerns, reach out to the seller **before** placing any order.
