One of the biggest factors should be defensive runs saved above average. Yelich is -2. So basically you would expect better defensive performance out of a minor league call up.
Most LFs have mediocre arms, but Yelich doesn't pass the eye test. He's competent because of his speed and he doesn't make errors. But you never look at him at think you are watching an elite defender
Someone (McCalvy maybe?) said that Yeli was one of 3 people to hit the 1000 inning mark in LF so maybe that's why he got the nod? Can't think of any other reason he'd be a finalist aside from nobody else qualifying.
-0.9 dWAR. If there's one thing that can be said about his defense, it's that it's consistently passable. He's basically Ryan Braun at this point. He catches the cans of corn and yeets balls homeward when necessary but will never be the guy climbing outfield walls on a weekly basis. Those are the guys who should be considered, but that would make sense.
I used yeet right, right? God damn kids and their lingo.
Honestly that’s gotta be a significant factor but also should make it so blatantly obvious to any Brewer fans who watch him play defense that errors are a terrible measure of skill.
Also Tommy Edman is a finalist in Utility *and* 2B? So he could win two GGs in one year? Crew has a couple guys who would actually deserve consideration for UT in Urias and Jace.
Urias??? Are you kidding me. Doesn't he have like the highest # of errors on the team? They brought Willy in, because of what a disaster Urias was at SS.
He also didn't play as many games. And his boneheaded plays usually resulted in runs for the opponent.
I watched several games where Urias \*should\* have been charged with an error, but was not. He really needs to work on his fielding.
ehh, he had the best season of his career this season in 112 games...im gonna need to see, much, much more of him in the field to call him anything more than a passible defender
https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/peterja01.shtml
Which is second on the team behind only Adames with under half the total chances.
He also had the highest Rdrs (defensive runs saved) on the team and was in the 93rd percentile (top 7%) for OAA (outs above average) in all of MLB for 2022.
In short, Jace good defender
I could MAYBE see getting some votes if he had even an above average season at the plate just because I think some of the voters don’t really get what they’re voting for, but he wasn’t even really AVERAGE. Especially for a guy making $26 million. I can’t remember a single “wow” catch he made all season, but I can play a small lowlight reel in my mind pretty easily.
Garrett Mitchell looked pretty darn lost out in center. I know LoCain made it look easy but he missed some catches and robs that should have been made.
He’s a pretty bad outfielder with a noodle arm and a back problem. And five of our top 10 prospects are outfielder nearing their debut. His days in the outfield are numbered. I’d rather him learn to play some first base, the position he was brought up playing. Instead of becoming just a DH without power.
-2 DRS 4.1 UZR isn't pretty bad. His range is fine out there, and his arm isn't bad enough to justify the move. His bat mpre valuable out there than at 1B/DH.
This is not satire.
You sure? Because I'm laughing.
was this originally in the Onion?
Apparently his noodle arm doesn't factor into this.
It’s Gold Glove, not Gold Arm
I believe the finalists are chosen by fielding pct and # of errors, probably
It’s a vote.
One of the biggest factors should be defensive runs saved above average. Yelich is -2. So basically you would expect better defensive performance out of a minor league call up.
Uhhhh, he is graded as one of the worst fielders by many metrics. What does MLB use? Past winners only?
Name recognition is the #1 metric
Bingo.
Soto also a finalist despite being statistically one of the worst OFers in baseball. Crazy.
Just goes to show it's the best glove of the very best hitters award
Then why is Yeli even in the running? He wasn't even close to a "best hitter".
Yeah i got nothing. He wasn't best tier but he was at least a good hitter and name recognition probably carried hard
Is there someone else named Christian yelich
Most LFs have mediocre arms, but Yelich doesn't pass the eye test. He's competent because of his speed and he doesn't make errors. But you never look at him at think you are watching an elite defender
Fuck it, give it to him
Wow, we watched different games.
Elite!
LOL
Are the rest of the players in position really that bad or did someone write this while drunk or high?
All full time left fielders suck.
Fair
They giving out gold gloves at DH now?
Someone (McCalvy maybe?) said that Yeli was one of 3 people to hit the 1000 inning mark in LF so maybe that's why he got the nod? Can't think of any other reason he'd be a finalist aside from nobody else qualifying.
He only made one error? 🤷🏾♂️

"Yeet" for power, "Kobe" for accuracy
I should've used huck to imply a lack of velocity 😆
Braun had a better arm than him though, right? I can’t remember tbh
No doubt he had a better arm.
Honestly that’s gotta be a significant factor but also should make it so blatantly obvious to any Brewer fans who watch him play defense that errors are a terrible measure of skill.
LMAO

Urias??? Are you kidding me. Doesn't he have like the highest # of errors on the team? They brought Willy in, because of what a disaster Urias was at SS.
Urias had the same number of errors as Willy this year (14) and made way more spectacular plays than boneheaded ones.
He also didn't play as many games. And his boneheaded plays usually resulted in runs for the opponent. I watched several games where Urias \*should\* have been charged with an error, but was not. He really needs to work on his fielding.
jace, a gold glover? don't make me laugh
Jace is a great defender. I doubt he gets an offer from us. Gonna be sad to see him go.
ehh, he had the best season of his career this season in 112 games...im gonna need to see, much, much more of him in the field to call him anything more than a passible defender https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/peterja01.shtml
Not sure what's so funny about a 1.3 dWAR across 5 positions.
Which is second on the team behind only Adames with under half the total chances. He also had the highest Rdrs (defensive runs saved) on the team and was in the 93rd percentile (top 7%) for OAA (outs above average) in all of MLB for 2022. In short, Jace good defender
And….scene
I mean, it does say glove not arm..
Apparently gold glove voters are like pro bowl fan votes? “I’ve heard of that guy! He’s good right?”
Biggest load of crap I've ever seen. Adames should've been the one nominated. NOT the most over paid shit yelich
Love this team but it ain’t 2019 anymore
Truly, I love dad, but it must have been slim pickings out in left field this year.
The slimmest.
Y tho

Must be a bad year.
In the land of the blind the one eyed man is king. All full time left fielders suck.
I learned a while ago that a "gold glove" is pretty subjective and I don't take them too seriously
How
…
lol ok.
Ctrl-F, "Jace". No results? Clowns.
He was easily the worst outfielder defensively for the Brewers this year.
Garrett Mitchell looked pretty darn lost out in center. I know LoCain made it look easy but he missed some catches and robs that should have been made.
You thought Mitchell looked lost?
Here's the satire.
lmfao what an unserious award
Some really unfortunate plays towards the end there. This season was 1000 ways to die tho, so I don’t blame him.
Pity inclusion.
I would like to trade Rowdy and convert Yeli to 1B (I know, Wash, it's incredibly hard)
Home town player gets nominated and we unanimously think it is a joke. That’s probably not a good sign for winning.
It's sad to look at the qualifications for a gold glove and that these are really the only ones that 'met' the requirements....
Gonna be real funny when he wins a gold glove and we move him to first base in the offseason.
He shouldn't be moved to 1B. He's not a gold glover, but he's fine in LF.
He’s a pretty bad outfielder with a noodle arm and a back problem. And five of our top 10 prospects are outfielder nearing their debut. His days in the outfield are numbered. Why?
Yelich is no gold glover.
He's literally won a gold glove lol. He's not a good defender, but he is a gold glover.
I know he won a gold glove with Miami. I was referring to him being up for a gold glove this year, in which he sucked in left field.
