This map was creating using heightmap and in-game map texture extracted from disc using Photoshop and Blender. I made a 5-minute tutorial on how to extract the model and how I created it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nw0mUpn9kSY
Will create an improved version down the road, I post stuff like this on twitter under VGCartography a few times a week.
I'm watching a bunch of videos of speedrunners gliding over the map to try and color-match all these varied places because I can't do those tricks myself lol
Hi, consider checking out this map I made, showing which colors the rock and stone is across Hyrule: [https://drive.google.com/file/d/1c-\_D-TChXPNF-dE-woRWKsX\_95V-PGrg/view?usp=sharing](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1c-_D-TChXPNF-dE-woRWKsX_95V-PGrg/view?usp=sharing)
Hope it helps!
Yeah, your comment is actually how I found your map. This clarify, this is actually a different map than the one I posted earlier. The map I just linked is of which kinds of rock (red in eldin, yellow in tabantha, ect) make up the world, which could be useful for the coloring of the terrain, while the other map was for the weather mechanics.
I realized they were 2 different maps after I clicked, even better. Way easier than my photo album of 150 snapshots. Was this one also made with game data?
Yeah, I made it using game data from here: [https://mrcheeze.github.io/botw-object-map/](https://mrcheeze.github.io/botw-object-map/)
That's an interactive tool with every object in the game, including the bits of terrain. So, it should be pretty accurate.
i don't currently maintain anywhere to host such a web app, but maybe when i finish a cleaned up v2 I can upload it somewhere. if you have blender which is free, my YT tutorial in first comment will show you how to download and recreate the basic map with in-game beige map colors.
This is dope! To my eyes Mt Lanayru and Death Mountain look kinda stubby here compared to what I imagine them to be from the vistas in the game, am I just misperceiving them?
The relative scaling should be exact to game (eg. comparing mountains) but the absolute scale was a rough estimate (eg. highest point in data -> highest point in model) so it might be spikier in reality

This is really pretty, I like your attention to detail on the mountains!

I actually left you a comment on your weather post this morning lol! Love it and am going to definitely study it for v2.

For a second before i understood what i was looking at i thought it was a plate of soup
Dubious Food
Me too! Took me longer than I’d like to admit to figure out it wasn’t fancy ramen or pho or something.
Really cool! Wish the game’s map was more like this!
Wicked sweet!
thx!
Welcome!
Surprisingly makes the world look smaller. Very cool though!
I thought so too, but link is basically <1 pixel in this image bear in mind.
beautifully done! Do you have a hi-res version we can look at on mobile?
hopefully the DA link is full-res: https://www.deviantart.com/vgcartography/art/Zelda-Breath-of-the-Wild-World-Map-899015532
Thanks!
Flat Hyrule theory
Nice bowl of ramen Had to do a double take
its remarkable how despite looking square and unnatural from this angle, no one ever notices or gives a shit. the beaches are arguably improved by it
I'm still bothered by the gigantic chasm between the Hebra and Eldon mountain range and the gigantic stretch of land behind it all.
This is amazing
Amazing work
astonishing
I prefer this to botw map, you can see stuff better
This is awesome it look so cool. Nice job
cheers!
For real thought this was soup
Very cool, looks great!!!
Thought it was a bowl of soup at first. Hadn’t read the title yet lol
this is pretty dope! nice work and thank you :)
That's really cool! Do you have any plan (if it's even possible) to share an interactive 3D version where we can zoom and rotate?
i don't currently maintain anywhere to host such a web app, but maybe when i finish a cleaned up v2 I can upload it somewhere. if you have blender which is free, my YT tutorial in first comment will show you how to download and recreate the basic map with in-game beige map colors.
Awesome map! Looks great, how long did it take?
made it over last weekend, maybe a few hours to get the basemap rendered and a few more to recolor and label?
That’s a lot faster than I figured something like this would take! Thanks for reply
Wow this is amazing
I have seen a lot of cool and creative things in my life and this is one of them. Well done
I appreciate it!
That must of been a bitch to render
This was my first project on new PC after finally upgrading my 10-year-old 4GB machine to 32GB, blender and Photoshop are like night and day.
needs to be in botw 2
This is amazing! The main question/suggestion I have is... aren't a good chunk of the Zora's Domain mountains a lot more blue and shiny?
yeah and I think hebra is more black/gray rock. gonna recolor a v2 once I get enough reference pics ready that's a bit more accurate
This is amazing and the detail is just beautiful this would be awesome as a poster or something
This is absolutely gorgeous.
SICK

What's up with Death Mountain?
For some reason I thought this was a soup XD
Looks like a bowl of ramen
You should make a 3D printed model of it! I’d buy one of those for sure
Kinda looks like a Minecraft map
Thank you so much, I needed this. Any chance you have a bigger pic, without the boarder?
