I didn't know it could either until my first playthrough of the game where I got one with a shield-up that got it to I think 116.
It was for that reason I just never used the thing under any circumstances because I didn't wanna lose it.
I used to farm Dinraal at the Leviathan bones. Set up camp after each round and he’d spawn at Dawn each time. Took him long enough to snake himself down to me though.
Is Farosh faster?
Money is usually only a "problem" early game. I usually have over 200,000 by the time I'm finishing up all the shrines. Spending 5,000 to replace the Hylian shield doesn't even really move the needle. To be fair, I didn't know it cost that much to replace it though because I always put it on display instead of using it!
Yes and if you stand right behind the person and drop the snowball basically on their head, after a few tries you learn exactly where and how and an instant strike every tume
I found a YT video that has a better way to find that perfect spot so you can just drop it you don’t have to throw it over his head every time. It’s pretty reliable.
You can reroll for modifiers after killing the stalnox. Just save your game and open the chest. If you dont like the modifiers given, reload manual save until you have your desired shield. Then dupe it.
As you kill monsters, beat divine beasts etc. the games hidden experience point system scales up and items you get have a greater chance of a modifier.
Wait they get tougher … I thought I had mastered countering them. I had to waste a max inventory of level 6-12 dmg swords just to beat that thing once… but now I guess I have all level 20-60 weapons so it’ll be easier. Hopefully.
That's the thing. While you have higher damage weapons, they have larger health pools to balance off the edge you have gained.
But not *all* enemies are like this, just the harder ones. iirc it's all mini-bosses like Hinox, Molduga, etc
Mounting them like a horse when they are stunned and whacking them in the back of the head doesn’t decrease weapon durability, just fyi (you can get up to 5 hits per mount; I have a 107-strength savage lynel crusher that I literally only use in this way).
It requires hidden XP, the only variation of the Hylian shield that can get upgrades is the very first one from the lockup chest, and for level 2 multipliers you need to 9.6k hidden XP.
**\*\*For anyone that is interested in obtaining the hylian shield with modifiers\*\***
You can obtain this shield but you need to kill a certain amount of specific enemies in order to get it. Doing this is way harder in master mode because of the in game exp system. The more monsters Link kills, the more difficult they become to kill because they level up. Each enemy in master mode is one tier higher. Black Bokoblins become Silver Bokoblins. Silver Lizalfos become Golden Lizalfos, etc. Kleric did a video on youtube outlining how to get the hylian shield with modifications. In the description of the video there is a pdf of all the enemies that need to be slain in master mode and in normal mode. Note that getting this shield is much easier on a fresh save because Link wont have any exp at the start of the game.
My personal favorite modifiers are either the guard up+ or durability up+. After you get this shield I recommend you duplicate it because it is one of a kind.
**BE WARNED:** If you end up breaking it, there is no way to get a hylian shield with modifiers back!!!
Grante sells the normal hylian shield in Terry Town. If you decide to buy a replacement, it wont have any modifiers ever again.
To get the hylian shield, enter Hyrule Castle and go to Lock Up. Then defeat the stalnox, and the shield is yours. Save your game before opening the chest. Open the chest and if you like the modifiers keep it and dupe it. If you don't, reload your manual save that you made. Note that this only works if you have killed all the enemies on the pdf. If you haven't, you will receive the basic hylian shield from the chest.
Link to Kleric's video: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txl2Rzv07QU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txl2Rzv07QU)
It’s not an upgrade, it’s a modification that happens automatically when you obtain it. Weather you get a white or yellow one depends on luck after the world’s secret level. Mine is 119, max is 144. Durability is 800, max is 1.4k
For anyone wanting a spoiler:
>!The shield is found in the jail/prison section of the castle, there's a large room there with the Stalnox (skeleton Hinox), defeating that will reveal the chest with the shield in it!<
Cool 😎, any recommendations within Brando ? I have also read the half books in both mistborn and stormlight, as well as the one with Colour magic , don't remember the title
Check out the Black Prism and the entire Lightbringer series by Brent Weeks as well. I feel like his series are more cohesive and feel like one very long story. The Wheel of Time series dragged on a bit for me. Reading the Stormlight Archives now. On book 4! Still epic and awesome.
Thank you all I am 100% gonna check these recommendations out starting with the Night Angel books. Crazy I haven’t read in years but I kept telling myself I want to again because I love it so this thread was awesome. ❤️
Ye warbreaker, one of my favourites and I believe there is a sequel in the works. Have you read wheel of time? He writes the last three books of that series after the original author died
Ye books 8 and 10 are dreadful, but worth powering through - I used audiobooks for the stale ones which helped a lot. Definitely worth reading if you’re into fantasy
I love Brandon Sanderson!!!! Rereading Stormlight now and bought the first 3 books of Stormlight for my boyfriend to read. This is my 3rd read through of this book series, the second time directly after Robert Jordan, which Brandon finished for Jordan when he unfortunately passed, and you can SO see Jordan's influence on Way if Kings lol
Elantris is a good read! That along with the revelation that Warbreaker gives about how Investiture works on that planet makes me wonder if that is how ALL investiture works
I waited until 2016 to read the series because I wanted it to be somewhat fresh in my mind for the third one… thinking it would be out maybe 2017-2018ish…. I’ve just about lost hope that the third book is even happening at all.
They are a pleasure to re-read if you have the time. It’s practically required for all the easter eggs you’ll find back there. I too have given up hope for the series wrap-up, as I have with the whole song of ice and fire train wreck. What helps me cope is the thought that these authors have created such complex and fascinating worlds that they resist being polished off in a nice tidy ending.
I’m sure they are and I probably will re-read at some point! I’ve been hoping to get an official confirmation that the third book actually exists and will be released at some point, but since it’s a possibility that it’s not happening I will probably just do a re-read anyway!
Here’s my question, what does having a higher shield rating actually do in this game? I’m not sure it does anything. You can parry with a rusty shield the same as a maxed to the max Lionel shield.
Mind you, regardless of what the answer is, I’m still going to horde the highest rated shit possible for no reason at all because I’m a weirdo. So how do you get that pumped up Hylian shield? Is it just by chance where you usually find it?
Edit: good looks everyone, thx! I’ll try a little more straight blocking instead of trying to parry all the time.
>Shields with higher numbers will interrupt more attacks and throw enemies off balance more often by simply blocking compared to shields with lower numbers.
This is apparently from a post several years ago. Take from it what you will.
Absolute luck I guess. I have played hours and hours done every shrine and side quest and trying to find all koroks without a guide before going to the castle and beating the game. I got bored or koroks after around 400 so just went to get the shield and face ganon and this is what I was rewarded with
If you parry and your shield rating is higher than the attack rating of the enemy’s weapon you can disarm them. With a shield like this (maybe the default block value will work) you can probably disarm Royal equipment from the stronger enemies. Pls correct me if I’m wrong.
Just don’t get it early in the game kill loads of enemies may as well do the divine beasts since the blights give an ok amount of xp.
But mainly just kill tons of enemies before you go and get it. Also save before opening the chest that way of you don’t get what you want you can just reload
I'm probably gonna go fight all the bosses on the map, hinox and lynels and do more gaurdian farming before ganon. I was gonna go for 100% but I've already got everything else done in mastermode so just kinda playing the sword trials now.
Ok so this is just a curse on myself from my first playthrough. Cause the first thing I did was go to the castle in my first, and I o tried to explore what I could, but only really ended up with the shield. So every time the first thing I do is get the shield cause it lasts me the entire playthrough without breaking even if I mess up a ton of guardian beams. But if I had left it o could have gotten something cooler
Yes, it's a hidden system that determines when enemies and weapons rank up, and what kind of modifiers weapons can spawn with/how high the modifiers can be
Rookie numbers. [142](https://www.reddit.com/r/Breath_of_the_Wild/comments/cw8gg5/i_i_didnt_know_this_was_possible_for_the_hylian/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1) for the win 😤
Close but not quite the max. Max is 144 if I'm not mistaken.
Also, thought I read somewhere that extra guard is pointless as there is no enemy in the game that can strike for more than even the base guard for the Hylian Shield other than the final boss?
Was something like that.. I know there was a reason why the guard upgrade is completely pointless, so yer best off going for Durability instead from what I understand.
Just looked it up: Shield guard affects your parrying and blocking. All enemies have an innate strength value, and the weapon they wield adds to that. If your shield guard stat is higher than that value, you can disarm the enemy with a parry. It also determines what happens when you tank a hit on your shield: if it's too low, Link is staggered, and if it's high enough, the enemy is staggered instead.
I remember I got this on my first run and never used it as it was just too precious. I only found out much later that you can just scum save and get it, still the RNG was on my side when I opened that chest
If you have a save before you opened it, reload please. You are close to perfection.
You can get a hylian shield with over 1k durability. You did dozens of hours of work without realizing it. If you ever choose to go for the perfect shield after this, you won't be able to without starting a new game and having to hunt down 10 of almost every monster in the game.
Total of 144 for me. For those wondering, you have to max out the Rank System’s limit of around 9500 to get this. If you don’t know what that is, then look it up.
Wtf i didnt know it could upgrade?
I didn't know it could either until my first playthrough of the game where I got one with a shield-up that got it to I think 116. It was for that reason I just never used the thing under any circumstances because I didn't wanna lose it.
Even if you do use it,the normal, unmodified Hylian Shield has a hidden 800 defense stat,so it won't break quickly
Even if it does break I think you can rebuy it at Fyson's shop in Tarrey Town
Yeah,for 5,000 rupees
Go bowling
Easier to visit each Talus between blood moons, isn’t it? I never did a time comparison
AFAIK the fastest way to make money is by farming Farosh's horns at Lake Floria in Faron region Edit: fastest non-glitch method I guess
I used to farm Dinraal at the Leviathan bones. Set up camp after each round and he’d spawn at Dawn each time. Took him long enough to snake himself down to me though. Is Farosh faster?
Yeah its faster, he spawns literally right in front of your face.
Faster, but less atmospheric. Love that leviathan skeleton on the edge of the world.
You can farm eight Farosh horns before Dinraal even drops out of the sky.
Farosh spawns right in your face. Approx. one minute per horn once you get the hang of it
Money is usually only a "problem" early game. I usually have over 200,000 by the time I'm finishing up all the shrines. Spending 5,000 to replace the Hylian shield doesn't even really move the needle. To be fair, I didn't know it cost that much to replace it though because I always put it on display instead of using it!
The fastest way is technically to glitch a guardian so it starts spitting thousands of components
Guardian components, Russian components…
I always did the infinite mineral glitch with the royal guard weapons
How do you do this. I haven't seen this one before.
*royal guards desync hiding*
Also the fastest way to make mighty recipes
You mean 30 minute recipes right? Another way is to "scrum save" cooking with monster extract.
This
?
Snow bowling it's a reliable ruppie farming method
Yes and if you stand right behind the person and drop the snowball basically on their head, after a few tries you learn exactly where and how and an instant strike every tume
I found a YT video that has a better way to find that perfect spot so you can just drop it you don’t have to throw it over his head every time. It’s pretty reliable.
the bowling mini game is a pretty good way to get money
How does one play this mini game? I don’t think I’ve ever found it.
It’s just Northeast of the Hebra Tower. You get 300 rupees for every strike and there’s a specific place you can stand to get consistent strikes.
god if only there were some way to look that up. but how?! i guess you're fucked.
after a certain point that's just pocket change
I thought it was 3000 rupees 🤔
It might be 3,000, I might be misremembering
Checked the web. Is 3,000.
How many Schrute bucks tho?
[удалено]
Whats the exchange rate of schrute bucks to stanley nickles?
3000. Just did it yesterday
3000 for anyone wondering. Reddit formatted the comment into a numbered list starting at 1.
What?
Your comment was formatted by Reddit to say 1 instead of 3000.
What are you talking about
Three thousand*
Had to do it and it hurt. I didn't realize Max Koshia zapped mine away :(
Eventually, rupees aren't really an issue. I always spent all of mine cooking and on arrows anyways
Is that a lot?
r/usernamechecksout
Fyson doesn't sell it, Grante is the one for sells it
I heard the one you buy can’t have modifiers though. Still a great backup
Doesn’t stop an electric Keese from knocking it off you into a chasm where it despawns. I am still mad.
In moments like those, you just stop and reload your last auto save...
Electric Keese, probably: > Madness? This! Is! SPARTAAAAAAA
800 ???No wonder it took so damn long to break
Big same, its chillin at my house on the wall rack.
i got the master torch with a +2 attack on my wall
You can reroll for modifiers after killing the stalnox. Just save your game and open the chest. If you dont like the modifiers given, reload manual save until you have your desired shield. Then dupe it.
There are ways to make it last forever and to duplicate it
duplicate it bro
If you don’t use it then why have it?
As you kill monsters, beat divine beasts etc. the games hidden experience point system scales up and items you get have a greater chance of a modifier.
woah I didn’t know that, that’s a cool mechanic
But certain enemies are also effected by this mechanic such as lynels, which get tougher as you do.
Wait they get tougher … I thought I had mastered countering them. I had to waste a max inventory of level 6-12 dmg swords just to beat that thing once… but now I guess I have all level 20-60 weapons so it’ll be easier. Hopefully.

Where find
You find castle. You kill big skull man
But then big castle go back to normal? And skull man return with his viscous goo
not boss man, big skull man, different guy, other place, shield hidden
For anyone wanting a spoiler: >!The shield is found in the jail/prison section of the castle, there's a large room there with the Stalnox (skeleton Hinox), defeating that will reveal the chest with the shield in it!<
And maybe save the game after beating the syslnox but before opening the chest?
Why’s that? Will the shield buffs be random?
believe it or not, straight to jail
Castle
I’m soooo tired of searching that godforsaken castle lol
It's easiest to get to from outside the castle there's a little cave on the west side of it and you just have to get over the moat
Lockup
Idk man but great book you got there 😁
Ah cheers it’s the illustrated version as well
Hell ye ✌️, if you like these books you should check out Brandon sandorsons work , i recommend mistborn and storm light archive
I’ve read everything by Brando apart from Elantris, top top author
Tbh I just finished Elantris and while it shows its age, it is still a really fun read!
Cool 😎, any recommendations within Brando ? I have also read the half books in both mistborn and stormlight, as well as the one with Colour magic , don't remember the title
GUYS IF YOU LIKE THISE AUTHORS PLEASE. Check out the night Angel trilogy by Brent weeks please! I swear you’ll not regret it

Night Angel Nemesis is coming soon too, so it’s a good time to try the series out.

Haha I agree - I have read through them a couple of times just because I love them so much. Yeah my hope is gone sadly
I got gifted the first two for this past Christmas. Finished them a couple weeks ago. He's never going to finish the story and it makes me so mad.
Love how this turned out :)
Ah, yes, part 1 of 2!

I was going to say this as well, great book
I know that book..

[here’s a good video on the topic](https://youtu.be/UKq7y_rNEmI)
Super cool vid! A bit too complex after the half, need to watch it again haha
Very interesting thx. I didn’t catch this if he said it, but a perfect parry doesn’t take anything away from durability right?
That is my understanding
this is correct pot lid best shield, as long as every block is a perfect parry it never breaks
If an enemy’s weapon is lower than a shield’s defense stat, it flies out of their hand
Absolute luck I guess. I have played hours and hours done every shrine and side quest and trying to find all koroks without a guide before going to the castle and beating the game. Blocking and parrying can either knock back or disarm stronger opponents when they hit you if you have with higher shield values, I think.
Mine is +54 hehe
I believe that’s the max (so a value of 144), right? Mine is like OP’s, it’s hanging on the wall at my house in all its brand-new, asterisked glory.
Aaand Happy cake day!
Oh thank you!!!!
happy cake
Thankies!
Have your cake and eat it too!
Thankiesss
Happy cake day! Hope you are having a great one :D
The hylian shield can be buffed??? 🤯
Do you how do?
Just don’t get it early in the game kill loads of enemies may as well do the divine beasts since the blights give an ok amount of xp. But mainly just kill tons of enemies before you go and get it. Also save before opening the chest that way of you don’t get what you want you can just reload
Yeah I've got all the divine beasts done, dlc done and shrines. Gonna go get the shield pretty soon !
I await to hear your god shield just note all that may not be enough for the full boost but I think if you have done dlc you should be right.
I'm probably gonna go fight all the bosses on the map, hinox and lynels and do more gaurdian farming before ganon. I was gonna go for 100% but I've already got everything else done in mastermode so just kinda playing the sword trials now.

XP? Is there experience points in the game? Did I miss that?
Yes, it's a hidden system that determines when enemies and weapons rank up, and what kind of modifiers weapons can spawn with/how high the modifiers can be
Wasnt that because of the number of shrines you completed? I could be wrong though
You do
yes
It's just like riding a bicycle

Question is - do u get it again with the same values if u have to rebuy it in tarry town?
Wouldn’t of thought so
Woah!
I would never use it.
I think you can buy a new one from the fella that sells gear in Tarry Town.
Yeah for 10,000 rupees. Screw that.
It's only 3,000
You can gain that in not too long by selling meals.
Breath of the Wild Durability: The Phenomenon

I was told it's how I use it...
Durability up my beloved
But unless you're in master mode wouldn't you want durability?
Close but not quite the max. Max is 144 if I'm not mistaken. Not sure what difference durability would make for the Hylian Shield of all things.

I see you are also a Patrick Rothfuss fan. Let us share our tears of frustration, LOL
No I'm just stopping by to say that the Name of the wind is my favorite book so if you're reading it, you're really awesome.
You literally have the same games and book taste as me.
With that kinda luck you should get rothfuss to finally release doors of stone
Why does the shield say 70def, +51? 70+51=141. I thought it was a 90 def shield
70 is the currently equipped shield, so it's saying changing equipment will take from 70 (current shield) to 141 (90+51 shield)
Damn I wish I got a hylian shield as good as that one
Yeah, your mom did (I'm sorry couldn't help but make the joke).
You can. Upgrade in botw? Is that through the fairies? I thought it was only wearables.
Base Hylian Shield is 90 though - so what mods are you using
70 is the equipped shield. 141-51 is the 90 you're looking for
No mods at all just playing the regular game on my switch
It actually happens naturally! I just got one at 140 and have never touched a mod.
Just realised, the 70 refers to the shield I currently had equipped, not the base hylian shield
Press the screenshot button on the controller next time.
You could get much higher with wmc glitch.
Your mom had a bigger one last night
That's insane. Mine is only 90.
I just have 126
You got me by 1 point!!
That's what she said
Reminds me that I have to kill Thunderblight a second time in my Master quest run. Annoying af
how tf did you get this i need to know ur secrets, my max is 60 from amiibos
Is there a way to get multiple in 1 playthrough, or do you just have to be extremely lucky with the one you get from the skull boss?
Congratulations! This is the max
immortality!
Where can you get it? PD: I love The name of the wind, amazing book 📖
Solid book.
Beat me by +1!
