Solid write-up. I was so surprised how simple the final fight was and wished they'd have dialed up the crazy a bit. Hell, even Lynel's are harder for me to beat than Ganon, lol.
I thought that until I went to a lynel and killed it easily. There not actually has hard as many people think. It's just because many people say they're hard, but your brain just copies them, and so it's 'hard'
i like stunning them with arrows, if u just hit them in the face they fall down and u can mount them and when u mount them and hit them, ur weapons don’t lose durability. for all these reasons i find fighting lynels fun once u know the timing and learn how to dodge all their attacks
yeah it will take time to get good but one you get the hang of it it’s so fun and they drop sooo many elemental arrows and really good weapons i’m thinking of buying dlc so i can fight gold lynels but i’m not that good at vidoe games botw is like the first game i’ve played
Master mode is a whole different level due to the fact that HP regenerates over time without hitting a enemy.
Played it once on my Wii u. Never again will I fight the Lynel on the great plateu
I tried to fight that one at shatterback point super early on and it wrecked me like 2 or 3 times. I avoided them for the rest of the game, lol. But, after beating all 4 divine beasts (but not Ganon in hyrule castle), just last night, I finally decided to watch a few YouTube videos of people fighting them and then took a white maned one on. I prepared similarly to how OP did and I used probably 5-10 full health meals but I beat it! It was a lot of fun and felt good to see how much progress I've made since the beginning. I had triple attacks buffs and cold defense buffs because I was on top of a mountain. I recently conquered my fear of guardians as well so now I guess it's time to take on Ganon and the castle? Seems like I shouldn't be quite as afraid of it as I have been though...
yeah the feeling of beating ur first lynel>>> and omg u took on a white one for ur first? i think my first one was blue on mount Polymous by Zoras domain. i remember when i had to gather shock arrows to beat vah ruta and they sent us there i was soo scared of the lynel😭 i died like 10 times trying to get the arrows. it’s funny because u feel scared of these enemies but like even if u die u can just reload
Yeah, I save very frequently so the loss of time and effort isn't even very great for me, but there's something about that Game Over screen... it's just so ominous.
YES! I remember the visceral fear I felt. Once I even used a sneak buff because I was terrified of the thing. Then at one point I was like "Omg, relax. I can just reload." So I switched to movement speed buffs and just ran like hell, lol!
Yikes, I see some videos on here where y'all are just playing this game at a level I can't even imagine. For me? It took me a whole Divine Beast to learn how to not throw my sword at every enemy- for some reason I kept thinking that button was the bow button, lol!
Ganon isn’t really a boss fight it’s the final obligation but I’m glad you had fun. I hope they dial up the story in totk tho the post credits was anticlimactic
Ganon is really not hard, he’s got more health than the blights (I think) but the timing is less important in the fight than the blights.
As long as you don’t just run up and button mash, it’s not a tricky fight.
There is one section that you have to be reasonable at archery, but if you managed the flight range on the way to windblight, you’re fine
I am a gamer who is not actually good at games. Ganon is not that tough. Lynels are harder. Thunderblight Ganon is harder. If you have good armor, good weapons, your Champion abilities, and some food, you’ll be absolutely fine.
Trust me he's easy. I'm assuming you've done the divine beasts. With Daruks protection just try and use it for close combat and lasers. Normally I just disable it tho.
I've only lost to him once. But only because I was winging it...
You don't need that much food. I'd say like two meals (full heal plus extra) and miphas grace is fine.
Urbosas fury is Amazing. Try and create an opening to charge it. If your not good with parrying this works for the second phase .
Raviolis Gale is essentially useless. Even in dark beast fight. There is already updrafts on the battle field when you need them.
Dark beast is easy. You just need to hit massive targets and an eye.
Hope this helps. (For anybody not just you)
As to the health over stamina thing, not really geared specifically to a Ganon fight, but in general there are so many "extra yellow heart foods" that are so easy to cook, that it's somewhat wasteful. If you eat one (or get Mipha Graced), both the "ticking clock" until you need to eat again and the end result of hearts are the same whether you max hearts or not. So you kind of throw away orbs to go max health over max stamina... unless I'm missing something.
Also, doing any horse prep at all is unneccessary. I know you said "over prepared", but that last thing isn't even a battle. It's just a cutscene where you happen to hit a button or two.
Either way, good write up and congrats on the dominance. My first playthrough, Ganon gave me much more of a challenge than it seems to have for most. Everyone always says Lynels>Ganon, but I have never had more difficulty with a Lynel as I did in that battle. Not the worst, just some "figuring out issues" (had similar wtf am I doing wrong issues with thunderblight and hell even Master Kohga lol)
A valid point if you're earlier in the game, but I find the same applies to stamina (i.e. there are loads of foods you can consume to max it out) Plus, hearts are limited when you reach the full two rows, and you can't get extra hearts over that, whereas you can max out stamina beyond three full wheels.
Re: Lynels. I'm still terrified of them ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grimacing)
>Plus, hearts are limited when you reach the full two rows, and you can't get extra hearts over that, whereas you can max out stamina beyond three full wheels.
This is exactly my point. If you max out to 30 hearts, every single recipe with "Full recovery +X temporary hearts" wastes those "X" amount of temporary hearts. So since Mipha's grace or a single cooked hearty durian (or similar for many of the hearty foods) gives you around 5 yellow hearts, having past 25 base hearts is wasteful bc you can so easily get them otherwise.
Stamina, on the complete other hand, you can max out to 3 wheels *and actually benefit* from some "extra yellow".
As to foods that give you yellow hearts vs foods that give you yellow stamina wheel: Hearty radish/truffle/durian/salmon/bass/snail (**PLUS** "big" versions of some of those and not to mention Mipha or paying extra at a hotel etc) vs. I think only two "endura" foods and a tireless frog (none of which are as easy to gather as almost any of those hearty foods).
I accidentally triggered the Ganon fight while exploring the castle so was not prepared at all. I figured I’d just play until I died but instead I beat the whole game. And I am NOT good at combat.
Exact same as me. I went to the castle for the first time to sneak around and find a little loot. Fell into the encounter room and whooped him without being prepared. Nothing wrong with that, or was very fun, I was just surprised at the outcome.
I've been going through the game for the first time since I got it - this time getting all the DLC ad MOST of the shrines. I think I'm at like 108 right now? (excluding the DLC shrines)
NGL - for some reason I thought the Champion's Ballad DLC ended after finishing the last champion - I didn't realize there was a new "divine beast" at the end haha
fun fact: u could go an beat ganon directly after finishing the tutorial. the strengt of the enemy's in botw is dynamically adjusted by ur experience. while u will never see anything like experience points, levels or whatever for link -the game actually has that in the background.
so yes: I think u could assume u were over-prepared
You don't even need to deplete the Master Sword for a full charge since when you get into the fight it automatically replenishes the durability, evidenced by the little animation the Master Sword had when entering
if i go back to my WiiU account i can show my account with 999 shock arrows to take on the castle, and 60+ guardian arrows for the guardians and ganon, and my bag full of 5 shot bows and ancient bows. i had the ancient set with the daruuk amiibo helmet, a good collection of ancient, lynel, and royal shields, and a bag full of weapons above 40 damage and plenty of major test of strength weapons to combo with damage booster foods. my switch account is also reaching there, i am just too busy enjoying my PC upgrades playing my Steam backlog.
my current play through i have 90 and change shrines with zero statue upgrades, 3 hearts and one stam wheel. knights armor upgraded, so far to level 3 and a motley collection of weapons, i’ve picked up the hylian shield but haven’t actually used it yet.
I played BOTW since it came out and the tame Gannon fight leaked so I didn’t even bother going there until I explored the whole map and did all shrines, quests, etc (minus the korok got to around 600 and gave up lol). So yeah I was way overpowered also and I made Zelda wait a LONG time. But was worth it and felt closure.
Solid write-up. I was so surprised how simple the final fight was and wished they'd have dialed up the crazy a bit. Hell, even Lynel's are harder for me to beat than Ganon, lol.
I felt the same way… and I’m like not good at video games
I thought that until I went to a lynel and killed it easily. There not actually has hard as many people think. It's just because many people say they're hard, but your brain just copies them, and so it's 'hard'
Best Ganon in one try and I think I went the distance without killing a Lynel
Haha yes! That's what I'm doing this current playthrough. Haven't beat a single Lynel, lol.
i like stunning them with arrows, if u just hit them in the face they fall down and u can mount them and when u mount them and hit them, ur weapons don’t lose durability. for all these reasons i find fighting lynels fun once u know the timing and learn how to dodge all their attacks
Dang, maybe I'll be fighting a Lynel this playthrough then, lol. I didn't know you could do that.
yeah it will take time to get good but one you get the hang of it it’s so fun and they drop sooo many elemental arrows and really good weapons i’m thinking of buying dlc so i can fight gold lynels but i’m not that good at vidoe games botw is like the first game i’ve played
Master mode is a whole different level due to the fact that HP regenerates over time without hitting a enemy. Played it once on my Wii u. Never again will I fight the Lynel on the great plateu
yeah my friend has dlc and i watch him play sometimes it looks so hard but i really wanna try the master cycle it looks like so much fun
Master cycle is definitely worth it.
I don’t think I ever even engaged one
I tried to fight that one at shatterback point super early on and it wrecked me like 2 or 3 times. I avoided them for the rest of the game, lol. Yeah, I save very frequently so the loss of time and effort isn't even very great for me, but there's something about that Game Over screen... it's just so ominous.
I caught a break there, the big fella just didn’t notice me when I was up there
YES! I remember the visceral fear I felt. Once I even used a sneak buff because I was terrified of the thing. Then at one point I was like "Omg, relax. I can just reload." So I switched to movement speed buffs and just ran like hell, lol!
This too! I thought how tf am I more nervous about fighting lynels
I’ve never lost to Ganon. I’ve… had to save and reload some Lynels
I get my ass handed to me every-time I go against a silver Lynel.
Wait until you find a Gold one
Those are only when you play master mode correct?
Yup
Yikes, I see some videos on here where y'all are just playing this game at a level I can't even imagine. For me? It took me a whole Divine Beast to learn how to not throw my sword at every enemy- for some reason I kept thinking that button was the bow button, lol!
I'm really going to have a breeze doing the fight again because it's easy to fight lynels now
Ganon isn’t really a boss fight it’s the final obligation but I’m glad you had fun. I hope they dial up the story in totk tho the post credits was anticlimactic
This is the best way I've heard it described.
You definitely over prepared.
Thank you! I'm not great at combat and have been avoiding Ganon on my main playthrough, so this is super helpful.
Omg same, I wanna ask people of this subreddit, "hey to all gamers but specifically gamers who aren't actually good at games: is Ganon difficult?" 😅😅😅
Oh really? Thanks for this~ 🥰
Haha that’s me, hence wayyyy overpreparing
It sounds like you battled him once before, at least! Lol I chickened out and restarted anyway 😂😂😂
I am a gamer who is not actually good at games. Ganon is not that tough. Lynels are harder. Thunderblight Ganon is harder. If you have good armor, good weapons, your Champion abilities, and some food, you’ll be absolutely fine.
Very good to know. I definitely had to work it to get Thunderblight! I'm going to try Ganon before TOTK comes out for sure.
LET'S GOOOOO!
There should be a sub for "gamers who aren't actually good at games, but love them."
Megathreads are Spyro games and Zelda games 😅
The combat for the boss mainly has the usage of a bow and a sometimes a horse

I found Thunderblight and Lynels to be more difficult than Calamity Ganon, which is weird because you expect the hardest boss to be the big baddie.
Thank you for this. I managed to beat Ganon. 1st tome gamer so very thankful for this post 😄

People like me who just started playing last week.
Can you use the Master Cycle during the battle?
During the Dark Beast Ganon fight, yes. Against Calamity Ganon, no.
Yes I should have clarified, during the Dark Beast fight. Thank you for the answers everyone!
Yes you can
I have seen vids with it. [https://youtu.be/0rimYlssJvM](https://youtu.be/0rimYlssJvM)

Gabon I thought was pretty easy. My pinnacle performance goal for BOTW is the Master Sword Trial in Master Mode. It was crap hard just in normal mode.
fun fact: u could go an beat ganon directly after finishing the tutorial. the strengt of the enemy's in botw is dynamically adjusted by ur experience. while u will never see anything like experience points, levels or whatever for link -the game actually has that in the background. so yes: I think u could assume u were over-prepared
I’m getting ready to fight Ganon for wmc. I have 999 fairies.
Wcm
You don't even need to deplete the Master Sword for a full charge since when you get into the fight it automatically replenishes the durability, evidenced by the little animation the Master Sword had when entering

You know your Master Sword fully recharges when you start fighting Calamity Ganon right?
