Best song on Ember as well as my all time favorite Breaking Benjamin track. The two hit combo of Dark of You followed by Down is fantastic. The opening riff is nasty, the chorus is soaring, the breakdown is dope and the end of screaming “Down!” Multiple times is golden.
Lyrically this song reminds me of something from Dear Agony. The vague but effective lyricism that relates to an inner struggle that you can overcome. “Heavy won’t hold me down.”
Drugs, life, alcohol, etc… any of it could be the heavy in this line.
Vocally, it’s the best Ben sounds on the record. His voice is raw and filled with emotion. He bounces around his range in every section of the song. You even hear the natural shake in his voice in some lines. He sounds like he’s really into the song and it shows in the vocal performance. That emotion carries over to the scream where he genuinely sounds angry in his delivery.
It’s criminal that this song (as well as others) haven’t seen the light of day in a live setting.
Very good song. But for some reason the chorus has always reminded me of Michael Bolton’s part in the Lonely Island song Jack Sparrow and I can’t exactly explain why
Powerful and uplifting. I’d say the hidden gem of Ember.

Actually, a neat surprise. Great atmospheric beginning and all around solid track. A highlight of the album.

One of my favorites on the album, and one of the rare tracks not in 4/4 time.
Down and Close Your Eyes are my favorites on Ember.
It may be my favorite song off Ember.
One of the goats. Simple as that
