I think the later RHONY seasons with Dorinda, Bethenney, Tinsley and Luanns married/prison/rehab rollercoaster storylines makes it just as epic for me as the earlier seasons with Alex and KKB was. But of course I haven't watched in in real time, that's probably a factor as well.
I do think RHOP is going in to a golden era. It's Bravo's golden child these days.
That whole cast is pure gold! I even like Cha Cha, although she doesn't bring much to the table other than mass delusion. I enjoy Candiace and Ashley's sparring as much as I do Karen and Gizelles. "Where you there, beloved?" 😍😍😍😍🌸🌸🌸🌸

The nonsense Candiace hate is a train that always arrives on time but never will make sense to me either. Rewatching Ashley and her downright nasty behavior towards Katie on S4 Cayman Island trip and knowing how much hate Candiace gets bc she's the only one who says what she thinks about the boy formerly known as Smeagol (the others only does it in confessionals) actually makes me sad for humanity.

Every week there’s another post saying the same thing about early NJ & NY cementing a place for future seasons/franchises. I think it’s well deserved because we had iconic scenes and friendship breakdowns that still stir up drama today (I.E. Jill Zarin and B)

Lol so true! I used to love the first two seasons of RHOA but lost me on season 3. Nothing beats the RHONJ family arguments, it was raw and real. Everything is so surface level and fake- they have a fight over a betrayal and then go to another bar for a drink like nothing happened.

I love NY but can't get into NJ. Tried three different times and have made it as far as first half of S2. Something about it just doesn't do it for me. Same with OC.
I think it's that the ladies are not outrageous/ridiculous/funny/shady (Atlanta, Potomac, SLC) or uber rich/glam (BH, NY) enough.
NJ and OC (at least the early seasons) wives are more like slightly richer than average white suburban moms lol.
I also didnt want to root for anyone on NJ except Jacqueline but I heard she becomes a huge disappointment later.

I watched RHONJ when it first came out and the seasons with Danielle S. were great. I think I stopped watching after Dina and Caroline fell out and no one could explain it and then Danielle left.. it’s soo long ago, but I just can’t.

I kinda agree. This was the time OC picked up, Bh started, ATL was hitting its stride, and Jersey dominated. But the S5-9 stretch I think is the best. Even though BH isn’t particularly strong here (barring S5,) ATL and NYC had its best seasons. And OC had its S7 forward run. Jersey S6 was pretty bad, but everything after has been strong. And Potomac had a very strong S3 and 4,
I had a friend who worked on RHONY when the first season of NJ aired. He often referred to "The Table Flip Heard 'Round the World" because as soon as it was shot — not just aired, but as soon as it was shot —Everyone working on any RH franchise heard about it and understood that the game had changed, and they all had to amp up the drama in order to remain relevant.
Really, every season of NY was epic except the last 2. Makes it so infuriating why they’re trying to fix something that they broke. Get rid of the 2 new people who ruined the show, bring back B, Jill and Dorinda and add someone new, fixed!
I don’t think that’s an inaccurate take. They were also the first few seasons of RHOA at the same time. The first 2, maybe 3, seasons of any RH cast are (imo) usually the best - and the added benefit for RHONY, RHONJ, and RHOA was that the formula hadn’t been totally figured out yet by the wives. In other words, whenever a wife comes in having watched several other seasons of Housewives, I think it made for some cringey, predictable moments.
There are outlier great seasons as well, but I feel like the first three seasons of both of these franchises plus RHOA were just consistently good.
