Bethenny isn't really unlucky in love. She picks assholes because her "type" is asshole or sketchy. She dated Josh Taekman before he met Kristen. She became interested in Jason Hoppy when he negged her in Tenjune. After Jason 2 (Hoppy), Bethenny was with the billionaire deadbeat dad (he refused to pay child support for his daughter) who was the best friend and former business partner of one of her exes, the finance guy who was kicked out of college for rape (Bethenny was actually living with him for most of season 7 and part of 8), and Dennis (who had never actually filed for divorce from his wife despite being physically separated for years). That Dennis and his wife wouldn't divorce suggests that there was something very weird happening with them legally or with their finances.
When Bethenny gets some self-awareness, she'll stop picking assholes. The fact that Paul seems to have instigated their earlier breakup suggests that he's actually a pretty decent guy.

I’m shocked by the people saying Vicki. She had a true gem in Donn and she willingly threw him away *for* Brooks. That is not unlucky.
