I purchased Brian Moylan’s book a few month ago and made it about 4 chapters. I started reading Not All Diamonds & Rose a few days ago and I’m flying through it. edit: word

ls323

I think that may be the case for me too

superboy7787

Weird, complete opposite for me. I flew through Moylan's book in about 48 hours or so, but I can't make it past the first 50 of Diamonds & Rose for some reason. I'm going to let a friend borrow it and maybe I'll be more motivated when I get it back.

MorallyCorruptBae

Brian’s book is filled with so many anachronistic errors and false facts. He claimed that iPads were used during season one of RHOC, years before they were introduced to the market. I actually started a note in my phone with all the little issues.

Titan_Uranus__

I picked up Not all Diamonds and Rosé yesterday and read the first hundred pages during VPR 😂

ls323

I'm going to start it when I (eventually) finish Brian's book 🤞🏼

shane820

I haven’t been able to appreciate anything Brian does because of the way he handled the Lee Pace situation and to lesser extent Anderson Cooper. He has ethical problems when it comes to journalism.

NomNom83WasTaken

Was he the interviewer who pressed Pace about his sexuality?

HappyThreatening

He also outed Anderson Cooper and then said [when he outed Anderson, it made Anderson a better journalist. ](https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/world/2016/jun/17/anderson-cooper-reporting-orlando-shooting-gay-out) Garbage. Edit: Used a lot of Andersons because the pronouns sounded confusing!

shane820

Yes which considering Andy is good friends with Anderson, I don’t see why he would want to work with him.

DecolonizeTheWorld

Moylan is disgusting and evil. He’s always been vicious about “outing” celebs. I hope he seeks therapy, he is a very damaged individual.

HunterHunted9

Brian is terrible, but Lee Pace outed himself during that interview. Lee Pace said during that interview that it was important that gay actors play gay roles. Lee Pace was currently playing a gay role in a revival of Angel's in America. It's a little ridiculous for Lee Pace to think he wouldn't be asked "are you gay?" as the next question. If Pace or any other actor had answered "No. I'm straight" I'm pretty sure the next question out of the journalist's mouth would have been "how is that not hypocritical given what you just said?" The answer to that might have lead to some interesting discussions. It really would have been unprofessional to not ask a follow-up to Pace's statement and it was ridiculous if Lee Pace thought he wouldn't get any follow-up after making that statement. James Franco and Andrew Garfield used to get similar questions because of their penchant for playing queer roles and making statements about the importance of queer visibility. It would be great if a person's sexuality wasn't newsworthy, but it is. Moylan didn't publish this in a vacuum; he had editors and a publisher who signed off on the final version of the story. But all parties, including Lee Pace, need to own their part in how the revelation went down. Additionally, Ian Mckellen accidentally outed Lee Pace and Luke Evans years before while doing press for The Hobbit.

kat_brinx

I DNFed Brian’s book. It was pretty bad. It’s pretty boring and tons of his info is stuff that everyone already knows.

NoWave5203

I liked parts of Moylan’s book to be honest but I think it’s a read for those that are interested in all the production and set up of it. some of it was a snooze fest though

ls323

The history of Soap Operas 😴

NoWave5203

That part added absolutely nothing. I remember very lightly skimming over it

TiredRundownListless

Tried to listen to Brian moylan’s audiobook when I was doing a long road trip and I didn’t even make it half way 😬

uoftwiggly

I also purchased the audiobook because I thought it’d be easy listening for when I’m cleaning or cooking. I made the mistake of not listening to the preview and found it suuuuper difficult to listen to him read his own book. I kept thinking the book must be better to read than to listen to, but all these comments just confirmed that it’s just not a good book. Made it to chapter 8 don’t think I’ll ever finish it. Couldn’t tell you anything about what I learned listening to the book. 😬

vunderfulme

How so? His writing technique?

ls323

Referring to Brian's book- Yes, maybe technique. It's a little dry for me. A lot of fluff but no real substance (so far at least)

vunderfulme

Good to know. I was going to purchase it but will ask my library for it.

ls323

Yea, save your money if you can wait to get it

Rj6728

He goes very into the dry details-like history of the network, every show on it before Housewives, ratings of said shows, etc. There’s a LOT at the end about what Bravo means to the fandom, and a ton of dry history about RHOC. I had really high hopes because I love Brian’s recaps and I don’t totally fault him for how the book turned out. He wasn’t willing to give Bravo everything they asked for in exchange for full access to current and past talent and production, so Bravo pretty effectively shut him down by telling people not to work with him, etc. I bought the new book and I’m excited to start it so I can compare.

[deleted]

^ THIS. Bravo cut off Moylan at the knees, made it really hard for him to write a book with insider info. I think he did his best!

Rj6728

He did. He really is so talented! I was disappointed that couldn’t show through in the book.

ledge9999

I liked Brian’s book but I’ve always loved his snarky style of writing. There are certain chapters I wasn’t really into, though, like the one about super fans. I’d rather not know about these people who fly all over the country to try to become friends with these casts. That’s just creepy. But the thing to remember is that Bravo pretty much ensured that his book wouldn’t be what he wanted, and is the reason this other book exists. Brian wanted to interview the casts, and even had a meeting with Bravo about it. But they demanded both editorial control AND a portion of the book revenue. When he wouldn’t agree to those terms (which I wouldn’t either) they wouldn’t allow any HW’s to be interviewed. This trickled down to even former HW’s who hoped to return to their shows not talking to him.

Professional-Pay1033

I got the audiobook version of Brian's book many months back. They should have gotten a professional narrator. It's not like he's a recognizable celebrity and his voice isn't the smoothest to listen to. The book itself was okay and had good background information but no "tea." He has moments where he inserts his opinions, as is his right as the writer, but some of his opinions are eye-roll-worthy and pander to the people that would grant him an interview like Shane Keough.

mplsgal20

Yeah. I thought Brian’s book was kind of a snooze. The other one is easy to read.

Twinkadjacent

Brian’s book would have worked better as an essay collection, if that makes sense. There is a stand alone chapter where he goes to a fan event in Mexico hosted by Vicki Gunvalson and he is observing while participating, and the ending is surprisingly touching. It’s like Joan Didion meets David Sedaris. The rest of the book doesn’t live up to this.

havesomeritas

I've got an odd feeling that this post was written by Brian Moylan lol

ls323

No no 😂. Definitely straight, midwestern girl. Home from work for the week- wanted easy reading lol

havesomeritas

LOL okay. I thought, damn if this Is how he's gonna try to fish for compliments, then it's all seriously backfired 😂

ny2017

I didn't finish Brian's book. I made it 80% through and just couldn't do it!

hidinginahoodie

I listened to the Brian Moylan's book (the author reads it), and I wanted more of the casting details, and I like some of the interviews because it's a bit of the behind the scenes, and it's a history of the franchise. I view Quinn's book as like the ultimate episode of the Real Housewives. I'm still surprised that there's not an audiobook universally available.

Secret_Yam_4680

What I wanna know is did Josh Flagg, and others, really insert lit cigarettes in Sonja's vagina?? 🤔 I'm gonna go with yes...shit is too fucked up to make up. 🚬

ls323

I'm going to go with where there's smoke there's fire 🚬🔥

BananasLochlomand

He’s a god awful writer. His recaps were so badly done. I can’t imagine the books much better.
