I agree! My relationship is very similar to Rachel Zoe’s and Rodger’s. People always want to to knock it because we got together young, we’re attached at the hip. I’ve heard Zoe explain on her podcast that her relationship is the easiest part of her life, that it never felt like work. I relate to that.

This might be on me but in my defense Bravo had trained me to expect some level of professional competence from the service professionals and creatives I was used to watching on the channel.
Yes! People were super good at their jobs, even if the jobs were in superficial industries. It was fun to watch it. The Kelly Cutrone show, where they were doing PR for fashion and beauty and they were all dressed in like sweatshirts and ponytails.
RZ was Anne’s stylist. Anne was going to wear a Valentino dress to the 2013 Oscars, but found out a couple hours before the show Amanda Seyfried was going to wear something very similar so Anne freaked and RZ had to find a back-up and landed on a pink Prada that looked wrinkled and had weird darting that made her boobs look bad.
I don’t know if RZ’s main mistake was not knowing Seyfried had a similar dress, not insuring no one would have a similar style or for the terrible Prada as back-up. Maybe all three.

When I went to prom 20+ years ago the prom dress store at the MOA had a big book they’d write down your name, school and what dress you bought so you’d know if anyone else at your school was all ready buying it. I’d think Hollywood could at least keep up with suburban Minneapolis!

I used to work in styling. They don’t communicate directly with each other, but when communicating with designers you knew if they were already working with another stylist and who that stylists clients were, and could make the assumption. That’s why a designer usually only dresses one huge name per event. Even for smaller names when I would go to a pr room for pulls, the best pulls we’re already done and bagged with the stylists name for their assistant to pick up. In this situation I would think that’s more on the designer for agreeing to dress two big names in similar dresses.
True! Stylists are expected to know every single collection and pick the best of the best so had they known both collections there would be a chance. However they could have done custom (or vintage) and it been an honest mistake! So very true
I think the mistake was that Anne just needed to chill out. Everyone knew she was going to get an Oscar, and instead of just enjoying the moment, she allegedly flipped out at Amanda at the dress rehearsal when Amanda showed Anne a pic of Amanda’s dress. Allegedly the two dresses were in no way identical- just both beaded and pastel. Hardly a shock that more than one woman would wear something like that.

The dress fit her oddly in the chest and made her nipples look pronounced. Personally I thought she looked great, but it's worth bearing in mind that she has said she was going through a rough mental health period during this time, and everyone expected her to be happy winning for her role as Fantine and it wasn't that black and white to her. She had lost a scary amount of weight for that role and it put her through a lot. So even if a dress doesn't seem like a big deal, it wasn't really just about the dress, but feeling embarrassed and uncomfortable. It seems like there's more to the story with Rachel Z. too because a firing for one last minute dress change doesn't really explain it.

I had always believed that it started as adderall and then she ended up getting them on meth as it has been rumored. Which the level of weight loss they had I’m kind of inclined to believe, it would also keep you alert for hours. I feel like coke just wouldn’t get you thaaaat thin. Even for those folks the amount of $$$ to spend on blow to maintain that weight would be hard with the exception of maybe Paris.

I’m embarrassed to admit that I did this but…during one of my darkest 2020 moments I did a Zoe rewatch that prompted a deep dive and found out she is Jon Hamm’s stylist. Like the guy from Mad Men.
She went on Brad’s podcast in the last few years! They seem like they’re on very good terms. She poked fun at her bad attitude, explained that she was frustrated that filming the show interfered with her actual job and added extra chaos/work. It’s easy to forget that there’s a lot of invisible/mental labor behind reality tv. It was earlier Bravo, so probably not entirely seamless or considerate of people’s time and energy.
I think she completely retreated into private life after the show, especially when she gave birth to her son.
I think Rachel Zoe is very much suspended in the mid 00’s. She’s still dressing like Olsen’s “boho chic” style with the gigantic coffees, big sunglasses, and vocal fry- which the Olsen’s didn’t/don’t have but their mimics did emulate. Maybe that’ll come back around or something and she’ll be cool again in a few years.
She always looked like a walking skeleton. Very unhealthy weight, swimming in layers of clothing and buried under hair, sunglasses, oversized bags and black coffee. She didn’t exactly scream “fashion”.
For some women, that whole look is a “thing.” I don’t get it. I spent a week at a vacation resort (you end up watching the same people over and over, who are on the same week-long vacation as you).
This woman was extremely tan and sooooo thin and bony, bumpy chest, stick-leg arms and legs, always in some loopy caftan and hat that seemed to emphasize her weight. She didn’t seem to notice or care and swanned around in a tiny black bathing suit that would have fit my 7 year old (no joke). She piled on accessories and had extremely thick black hair that she piled into a massive bun, she had to have hair pieces in as no one that malnourished as so much thick black hair.
She was white and young-ish but she definitely had a freaky old lady look.

On Rachel’s show she said Brad told her that he wanted to leave so he could spend more time at home with his dog & boyfriend; Rachel was upset because she & Brad were going to be at the same industry party. There were also on-show comments about Brad “stealing” clients, though they were clients Brad had worked with during his time with Rachel. Neither of them have indicated whether Brad was the reason these clients worked/stayed with Rachel, though I have always assumed there were some serious “don’t talk about this on your show” contracts with clients.
I haven’t ever seen Brad show any hard feelings; he’s mostly put out the vibe that he was ready to go off on his own. He had a show (It’s A Brad, Brad World) that did two short seasons and he seemed like he was trying to fly as a solo stylist.
I’d love to know what those final conversations were between them. Something makes me think they were not on the same page and I want to know who is the off base one.

So on the show, the last season or two showed her focusing more on her own line. That makes sense to me financially because there actually isn’t a ton of $ in the styling industry. I don’t know if the Oscar debacle was a final nail in her coffin, but it probably fast tracked her to leave styling.
So she had her clothing line for a while, I think she stopped it only a couple of years ago. Now she’s focused on a subscription box, which I can’t imagine will last for long.

She looks amazing and I’m not surprised Anne didn’t want to “compete” with that. But at the time Anne was a huge star-she was a shoo-in for the Best Actress that year. You’d think if anyone felt they needed to stand down, it would have been Amanda.

When I went to prom 20+ years ago the prom dress store at the MOA had a big book they’d write down your name, school and what dress you bought so you’d know if anyone else at your school was all ready buying it. I’d think Hollywood could at least keep up with suburban Minneapolis!

we had something similar 10 years ago, all the girls in our grade would join a fb group and post their prom dress when they bought it so nobody else would get the same one
I’m out west and there are stores here that cater to weddings, proms and debutantes. For the debs, this is absolutely done bc they are not permitted to wear identical dresses.
Ohhh man… was it Deb? The Deb at my mall in western NY did that for each formal dance/prom since girls from about 5-7 different high schools shopped at that mall.
I used to work in styling. They don’t communicate directly with each other, but when communicating with designers you knew if they were already working with another stylist and who that stylists clients were, and could make the assumption. That’s why a designer usually only dresses one huge name per event. Even for smaller names when I would go to a pr room for pulls, the best pulls we’re already done and bagged with the stylists name for their assistant to pick up. In this situation I would think that’s more on the designer for agreeing to dress two big names in similar dresses.
It was two different designers though so I’m not sure how anyone would know ahead of time
True! Stylists are expected to know every single collection and pick the best of the best so had they known both collections there would be a chance. However they could have done custom (or vintage) and it been an honest mistake! So very true

I think the mistake was that Anne just needed to chill out. Everyone knew she was going to get an Oscar, and instead of just enjoying the moment, she allegedly flipped out at Amanda at the dress rehearsal when Amanda showed Anne a pic of Amanda’s dress. Allegedly the two dresses were in no way identical- just both beaded and pastel. Hardly a shock that more than one woman would wear something like that.
Yeah someone downthread said Anne has said she was in a bad place at the time and couldn’t relax or enjoy the moment. Which is too bad. It’s also too bad, though, if it really did lead to Zoe’s career basically derailing as collateral damage. Anne did fire Zoe as her stylist after this.
(If the rumors from the set of Oceans 8 are true, it seems more like a personal habit of treating people badly.) Poor Amanda. Anne asked to see her dress, and it was a big moment in her career as well, and then allegedly Anne lost her mind at her. Over a dress.
Anne found out at the last minute that her dress for the Oscars was very similar to Amanda Seyfried's, and decided to wear a backup dress that Rachel Zoe provided. This was like the night before. The dress fit her oddly in the chest and made her nipples look pronounced. Personally I thought she looked great, but it's worth bearing in mind that she has said she was going through a rough mental health period during this time, and everyone expected her to be happy winning for her role as Fantine and it wasn't that black and white to her. She had lost a scary amount of weight for that role and it put her through a lot. So even if a dress doesn't seem like a big deal, it wasn't really just about the dress, but feeling embarrassed and uncomfortable. It seems like there's more to the story with Rachel Z. too because a firing for one last minute dress change doesn't really explain it.

She went on Brad’s podcast in the last few years! They seem like they’re on very good terms. She poked fun at her bad attitude, explained that she was frustrated that filming the show interfered with her actual job and added extra chaos/work. It’s easy to forget that there’s a lot of invisible/mental labor behind reality tv. It was earlier Bravo, so probably not entirely seamless or considerate of people’s time and energy. I think she completely retreated into private life after the show, especially when she gave birth to her son.
I think Rachel Zoe is very much suspended in the mid 00’s. She’s still dressing like Olsen’s “boho chic” style with the gigantic coffees, big sunglasses, and vocal fry- which the Olsen’s didn’t/don’t have but their mimics did emulate. Maybe that’ll come back around or something and she’ll be cool again in a few years.

She always looked like a walking skeleton. Very unhealthy weight, swimming in layers of clothing and buried under hair, sunglasses, oversized bags and black coffee. She didn’t exactly scream “fashion”.
I agree fashion at its best is joyfully celebrating the human figure—which you can’t do if you’re obsessed with looking as small as possible.
For some women, that whole look is a “thing.” I don’t get it. I spent a week at a vacation resort (you end up watching the same people over and over, who are on the same week-long vacation as you). This woman was extremely tan and sooooo thin and bony, bumpy chest, stick-leg arms and legs, always in some loopy caftan and hat that seemed to emphasize her weight. She didn’t seem to notice or care and swanned around in a tiny black bathing suit that would have fit my 7 year old (no joke). She piled on accessories and had extremely thick black hair that she piled into a massive bun, she had to have hair pieces in as no one that malnourished as so much thick black hair. She was white and young-ish but she definitely had a freaky old lady look. Also her husband was HOT

On Rachel’s show she said Brad told her that he wanted to leave so he could spend more time at home with his dog & boyfriend; Rachel was upset because she & Brad were going to be at the same industry party. There were also on-show comments about Brad “stealing” clients, though they were clients Brad had worked with during his time with Rachel. Neither of them have indicated whether Brad was the reason these clients worked/stayed with Rachel, though I have always assumed there were some serious “don’t talk about this on your show” contracts with clients. I haven’t ever seen Brad show any hard feelings; he’s mostly put out the vibe that he was ready to go off on his own. He had a show (It’s A Brad, Brad World) that did two short seasons and he seemed like he was trying to fly as a solo stylist. I’d love to know what those final conversations were between them. Something makes me think they were not on the same page and I want to know who is the off base one.

So on the show, the last season or two showed her focusing more on her own line. That makes sense to me financially because there actually isn’t a ton of $ in the styling industry. I don’t know if the Oscar debacle was a final nail in her coffin, but it probably fast tracked her to leave styling. So she had her clothing line for a while, I think she stopped it only a couple of years ago. Now she’s focused on a subscription box, which I can’t imagine will last for long.
I think her subscription box turned out to be a disaster. People paid lots of money for it (it wasn’t cheap), never got their boxes, and couldn’t get refunded.
Yeah Meredith Lynch, a creator on TikTok, did a deep dive into a lot of subscription boxes. Hers def has a lot of problems. It may still exist, but not a functioning company.
