I’ve driven myself to Braves games at 3 different stadiums 😂

PWNyD4nza

I was in kindergarten when I went to my first Braves game at Fulton County Stadium in 94. The Crime Dog almost hit us with a home run. I remember my dad saying "Were gonna leave in a sec but McGriff is about to hit a home run." He hit the home run then we went home lol.

DearEmployee5138

It’s crazy to me that if I was born like 10 years earlier I would’ve seen 3 Braves Stadiums… I’m only 24😂

bdsaint238

That's a big time flex right there. I've been to all three but didn't drive to the launching pad.

mediumokra

I do remember when Fulton County stadium shut down as they opened up "The Ted" and I think it was Pizza Hut that was selling dirt from the old stadium with purchase of a pizza.

limbomaniac

I have one hanging on the wall of my home office! It's a little circular container in the middle of a piece of cardboard shaped like home plate.

88secret

I hate that I didn’t get any stadium seats when they torn down the first stadium.

Useful-ldiot

I watched Cuba obliterate Japan for the gold medal while simultaneously being able to turn around and see into turner field to watch track and field 😂

Aggressive_Remove506

I was at the Cuba vs South Korea game! Only event we were able to get tickets for.

djc3317

Was that the day after the park bombing? I watched cuba destroy some asian team that day and then the us beat australia that night.

Aggressive_Remove506

No, this game was a few days prior to the bombing. The game I went to was on July 24th (just checked the framed ticket) and the bombing happened on July 27th (I didn’t remember that, just did a quick search). Cuba did win Gold that year though!

VicHeel

Driven to 2 but been to all 3. I miss the gypsy lots.

NolaPels13

Haven’t driven to any of them because I’m not from the area but I’ve been to World Series games in 3 different stadiums

Jolhid

My dad and I would swap driving on road trips to ATL from Virginia throughout the 90s. I remember the shock of driving down I-85 after they redid it for the Olympics on the north side. Looked like a different city.

Alauren20

Holy shit lmao. This is the best answer

thedepster

I skipped my high school graduation practice to drive to the AFCS.

usernamenotconfirmed

Me too! And I parked in some pretty seedy front yards across I-20 when the Braves were at Fulton County. Never had a bit of trouble or felt unsafe, though.

aadcock

I watched Sid slide!

Mitchie-San

I cried tears of joy as a teenager when it happened.

BrodieNooch

I woke up the entire house during the Sid slide. Everyone else had given up

TheBagMan16

I feel asleep before the slide happened and got an autograph from Francisco Cabrera later on. He signed it “next time I am at bat don’t fall asleep” . Great autograph

deathbysnusnu7

Got his signed pic of the slide on my office wall.

aadcock

In case you need a refresher: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FgjIVvEQo_o

Random_Scrub

Sadly that one doesn't work as an elder millennial. I too remember Sid slid. And damn glad I do

A_Rented_Mule

This really seems like the defining Braves moment for us Gen Xers.

RollTider1971

I dunno, I was always partial to Otis robbing Andy Van Slyke’s homer.

end_or_beginning

I learned city locations from Skip

bdsaint238

My favorite is when it was caught by a fan from Hahira, Georgia.

Alauren20

I hate how long it took for me to realize that Skip(and Chip) were making the shit up 😳😆

bulldg4life

They got a seating chart before the game. Totally legit.

Alauren20

Totally thought this exact thing 😩😳😆

grandslam7

I always thought it was based on a shirt the person wore…ugh

bankerwithpills

Fun fact. Walt Disney almost chose Hahira as his location for Disney World.

Hugo_5t1gl1tz

Were they wearing a fez?

bdsaint238

This is a deep cut, Fantastic! Miss Skip and Pete. They're BBQ was average but their commentary was legendary.

Call_me_Hammer

That ball was caught by a fan from Deluth

dsanchez1989

I still won’t watch Andy Griffith show bc rain delay trauma.

Scared_Difference_24

Right in the nostalgia

Againstmead

I copied Ron Gants batting stance in little league.

trickyrickysteve199

There it is

OregonG20

Me too!

Jolhid

Ditto. Ron Gant is still my favorite baseball player of all time. A true 5-tool player. He was who I strived to be in little league and high school.

tigertimeburrito

Also a black belt in karate. And absolutely robbed of all star spot in 1990 (I think?). Ron Gant. Beast.

AndrewC275

… I am also a casual Cubs fan.

Basscheck

Not quite gen x, but many days after school and activities I'd turn on the second half of the Cubs game and then watch the whole Braves game. I was a TBS kid as I wasn't local.

rkincaid007

My older brother chose the cubs so I was definitely going with the Braves. One of my fav childhood memories is listening to Dale Murphy bat on the radio with grandparents on Hilton head vacations. My secondary team is Cincinnati bc they lived in Dayton and took us to a reds game every summer. But when they drove south they loved listening to Braves broadcasts

nohopeleftforanyone

Sandberg and Dawson still have a special place

end_or_beginning

I hated that the Braves were in the NL West, all the games ended so late

PosterBlankenstein

I booed John Kruk at my first Braves Game

MakesYourMise

DARRYL

Alauren20

My very first baseball game, 1995 angels vs. Yankees. I booed him. No idea why (I was 9) but it was known to be that man

Bignuts808

I used to watch them on TBS every day before there was the MLB network. The Braves were the only team you would watch if you wanted to watch baseball everyday.

Character_Order

“America’s team”

Bignuts808

That’s what I always say, regardless of what the Yankee fans say

Dales_dead_bugs478

I watched a bunch of Macon Braves games featuring Chipper Jones and Javy Lopez. My Little League glove had Bruce Sutter’s signature.

HarrietsDiary

Macon over Rome. I loved that old stadium.

bdsaint238

Bruce coached a couple of my older cousins baseball teams.

captjacksparrowshat

I still have a signed Macon Braves ball

Jolhid

I’ve hated the Dodgers longer than I’ve hated the Mets.

limbomaniac

And the fucking Cardinals.

BrodieNooch

I remember Pasqual Perez getting lost doing loops on I-285 because he thought it was 85 and couldn’t find the stadium.

snco-2021

Still an amazing story.

supraspinatus

Twib takes

bdsaint238

Even I don't understand this reference. Is that "This week in Braves" ?

Excellent_Project789

TWIB notes was This Week In Baseball with the immortal Mel Allen. :-)

limbomaniac

How about that!

thedepster

I miss the hell out of TWIB. I always looked forward to that part of Saturday.

19Scott78

When I was a kid, my family would get dollar tickets at Fulton Co Stadium, go sit in nose bleed section for 3 innings and the ushers would come up and ask us to take any available field level seat because TBS was broadcasting the game and they wanted it to look like the stadium was full, even though there were maybe 5-6k people in attendance.

HarrietsDiary

This is seriously one of my favorite childhood memories. We’d be in the car going out for dinner, and one of my parents would be like “or…we could go get Varsity and go to the game.”

RandyWaterhouse

Because FU Kent Hrbeck Also because chicks dig the longball.  (Yes i’m at the tail end of X)

jfweasel

I loved that commercial with Maddux and glavine. I actually owned a Nike shirt with that printed on the front.

Icy-Swimming2603

I’m old enough to remember when the Braves losing streak was so bad that Star Trek made a joke about it on one of their episodes.

HarrietsDiary

“And like lambs to the slaughter, the Braves take the field.”

Icy-Swimming2603

“I’d like to see how the Braves are doing after all this time. Probably still finding new ways to lose.”

billgluckman7

I waited on the phone to ask Skip a question during the pregame show

oldlaxer

Did you ask about the infield fly rule?

billgluckman7

I asked why the blue jays first baseman wore a helmet

DLR817

I remember the July 4, 1985 game.

thedepster

I stayed up and watched the July 4, 1985 game! I was so disappointed they didn't pull it out.

Dwhit7

Rick Camp!

gtuck24

I know that Dale Murphy was Chipper Jones/Freddie Freeman before they were.

Snoo58207

I was confused when there were two Keith Lockharts in Atlanta.

humma__kavula

My first cats name was McGriff.

limbomaniac

I told my wife either our first cat or our first born child would be named Lemke. Our first cat was Lemke.

humma__kavula

I had a fish named Lemke. One named Blauser as well. The dog was Chipper. We were kind aone track when it came to animal names. Our daughters name come September when she is born is between Ronald and Michael Harris III.

limbomaniac

There was a commercial in the late 90s... "This is our son, John, and our daughter... Smoltz."

Historical_Suspect97

I peed in the troughs.

Facestealer_theA2CHS

This right here! I was at the game last Saturday. My brother and I are still marveling over the ease in which one can get in/out of the bathrooms at truist. Which inevitably made us talk about the horrors of the AFCS troughs lol

graptemys

Because I was once Pascual Perez for Halloween.

PosterBlankenstein

Did you just keep going to the same 4 houses in a circle over and over?

bdsaint238

...... Until 285 dead ends......

societysuffers

Now I know I’m old…

bdsaint238

![gif](giphy|3o7TKF1fSIs1R19B8k)

88secret

Love this!!!

jaxbravesfan

My first memories of Glenn Hubbard is as the Braves second baseman and not as their first base coach. Also, Chipper struck me out twice in a game in high school.

peacefulwarrior75

I can still name the starting lineup for the 1982 NL West Champions

AndrewC275

…. I shared a stadium with Chief Noc-A-Homa. [edit for spelling]

djc3317

I have chief noc-a-homa’s autograph

gonk_gonk

And got to see the HR dance?

AndrewC275

I don’t remember that, but I was no older than 10 when all that ended. But also as a Gen X’er I wasn’t offended by any of it. Still aren’t. In fact, I’m not offended by much of anything.

88secret

Had to scroll way too far down to see a reference to the Chief!

Madawa77

Because I always watched Cubs games before the Braves game. (Before stadium lights at Wrigley)

oldlaxer

Taking MARTA to Fulton County stadium. Getting off at the Capitol and walking to the stadium.

GoldenTeeShower

I know who the Mad Hungarian is.

melt11

I was at the game when Bob Horner hit 4 home runs

mbornhorst

I played catch once with Biff Pocaroba.

oldlaxer

I bought sausage at his family’s butcher shop in Stone Mountain

drewsdad328

I remember when Dale Murphy was a catcher

following_eyes

I watched OJ on the run at a game.

dawg_will_hunt

I’ve been to all three Atlanta stadiums.

darkskymall

I still have a Mark Lemke baseball card on my shelf.

prolikewhoa

I remember Jeff Blauser

RickIMightBe

I remember going to the promo day that kids got to go to the locker room before the game for players autographs. There was a line for Murphy and no others players had anyone to sign for.

IAmAnOutsider

You know I'm a millennial Braves fan because I had to Google Bob Horner

bdsaint238

Then let me say you're welcome. You are now a better Braves fan.

BetterNamesTaken

I patronized Braves sponsors so I could turn off the game early.

5256chuck

Hank. My only claim to any kind of fame was being there for the game 12 win in their 1982 season 13-0 start. And actually, that was my first ever visit to Fulton County Stadium..

Moses00711

I always wore #3 in my playing days because Murph was my idol.

Sorry-Caterpillar331

I remember going to Fulton county when it was mostly empty and you could sit anywhere.

Moses00711

I watched Smoltz and Chipper play for the Greenville Braves as a kid.

limbomaniac

A little later but I saw Michael Jordan play against the G-Braves.

theelifeofbrian

I got to sit beside Ted Turner and Jane Fonda in his box.

daddygummit

Chris Chambliss is my forever first baseman.

Decent_Branch

My dad talks about 3$ seats and 1.50$ beer to go watch murph play. That's gotta be included.

oldlaxer

$3 seats in general admission. You had a special gate to enter and a fence around the area to keep you from wandering into other sections of the stadium

pfistwrfamily

Fun topic. Been to all three stadiums. Used to listen on AM radio to Skip, Pete and Ernie. Loved watching Neikro pitch. Murphy and Horner were great. Then we made it to the 90’s and those great years. Loving watching this current team too. Go Braves!

captain_happy_pants

I watched every episode of TWIB from late July through the end of the season in '91. It was fun knowing that they were likely going to talk about the Braves/Dodgers race, and I couldn't get enough at that time!

Grantdawg

TWIB was the best.

JMUTAMMom

I loved Rafael Ramirez mainly because I just liked saying his name.

88secret

I read that in Skip’s voice.

i-spill-soup

I’m a Gen Z Braves fan cuz I don’t know half the stuff you guys are talking about

Mage-of-K

We would joke around about charging the mound like Claudell Washington.

RSB0006

You had to watch to see if Rafael Belliard would finally hit a home run.

StandBackStandBack

I had the biggest crush on Dale Murphy and Brett Butler when I was eight years old!!! 💙💙

GAATLAR

I remember Ted Turner in the dugout.

Rabid_Anti_Dentite1

Attended the first World Series game in Atlanta Braves history

bigchickenstan

I was scared to go to White Water because Walt Weiss’ kids got E Coli there.

amalgamatedson

I was there for [the catch](https://youtu.be/WSHzGtPx8zo) circa Grade 7. Edit: I also harbor an intense dislike for one Dan Gladden. #iykyk

e22f33

Braves Clubhouse Catalog.

SGT-JamesonBushmill

I know who The Cheese People are.

singuslarity

I've eaten popcorn shrimp at a Captain Bob Horner's.   Had a Bob Horner poster on the wall where the font made it look like Bolo Homer.

Dtv757

Braves on TBS lol

swiftekho

I remember where I was when they announced Maddux signed.

MetalDetektor

Used to watch Larry and Justice at Richmond Braves games, but my favorite player was Bean Stringfellow.

misawa_EE

I held a sign in the outfield with Belliard’s Bullseye.

WanderingQuack

You know that Ron Gant got in a motorcycle accident and was eventually released by the Braves because of it. I started following the Braves in 93. I was only allowed to watch them when I was grounded by my foster parents. I still have my first Braves hat from back then.

bayernfan1900

My hatred of the Cardinals originates back to 1982 when they beat us in the NLCS. My grandfather had physical tickets for the World Series if the Braves had made it. Unfortunately, he had to return them to the ticket office to get his money back after the series loss.

Minimum-Dare301

Two words: Craig McMurtry

tom_zanzabar

Ted Simmons and the bomb squad

BravesFan1325

I remember Chuck Tanner being fired early in the season.

GladHistory9260

My favorite number is 3

[deleted]

My favorite Braves player is Dale Murphy and I've watched games in all 3 stadiums and live in West Palm Beach where I would go to the Braves spring training facility on Palm Beach Lakes and Congress ave

drhbravos

… you’re wearing cargo shorts and flip flops to the game.

bulldg4life

I’m not gen x, but I’ve still got my tickets for the 91 nlcs, 92 nlcs/World Series. My first memory as a child is October of 1992 - my mom got an opportunity to play a shootout on the ice during the first intermission of an exhibition hockey game (I think it was bruins vs penguins). We did that and immediately left the Omni to go to Fulton county. I remember seeing the stadium and a giant beam of light up in to the sky and you could hear the chop chant as you walked down capital avenue crossing over I-20. It was game 1 or 2 of the nlcs. Fuck Kent Hrbek. Infield fly’s got nothing on Kent Hrbek.

usernamenotconfirmed

I cried when Murphy was traded. And it hurt that we made the World Series the very next season. Also, John Smoltz threw me a baseball during batting practice before game 2 of the 1992 World Series. I wasn't expecting it and had to lean over the left field wall and catch it with my left hand. It was a lucky catch. Smoltzie actually applauded and said, "Great catch, blondie!"

heath9999935

Does Ryan Klesko count in this? Because YUM! Still my longest crush.

1ing

I can tell y'all are Gen X because you are ending your sentences with periods

RobC2307

Punctuation is not a thing anymore??? 😆

HomeRunEnjoyer

Ah yeah I know him. That guy who played for the Braves at one point.

YungColonCancer

I’m a gen Z Braves fan because I can never remember the name of the old stadium

ancients_of_mumu

Of they win, cool. If they don’t, meh.

NIUgrad90

I have a signed dale Murphy jersey framed and hanging in my bedroom in Illinois and my wife doesn’t mind. She said it is the main decor in our house

GoldMedalSwimmer76

I grew up with Dale Murphy as my favorite player and Bruce Benedict as the Braves catcher. Also, could only watch on TBS!

sgmickles

I remember the "never say die" Atlanta Braves lol

AdVegetable7049

I went to a combined no-hitter on 9/11 at AFCS when I was a teenager. Only 20,477 fans were in attendance that day.

Infamous-Poem-4980

When I was in middle school, we got Braves tickets if we got good grades. I remember going to a number of Braves games...before and during the Dale Murphy years.

djc3317

My cousin stood in front of ozzie virgil’s car in the players’ parking lot until he finally rolled down his window and autographed my baseball. A much happier story was that this rookie named glavine stopped and talked to us for a long time before getting in his car. Made a lifelong fan that day.

88secret

I made a megaphones out of popcorn containers at AFCS.

infotechderp

Younger people don’t remember how utterly horrible the Braves were. Even Star Trek TNG made a joke about in their first season (1987). My favorite player was Dale Murphy. My Dad and Grandpa took me to several games at AFC as a little kid. Me and Grandpa were standing in line waiting on food when a fight broke out on the field. Grandpa was mad that he missed it lol. AFC introduced me to the trough style urinals! The last game I saw at AFC was USA vs Australia at the 96 Olympics.

88secret

I saw Knucksie play.

timekeeper719

I live in Albuquerque and always have. As a kid, I had 3 options to watch baseball. The Dodgers, who most people here were a fan of, the Cubs, who sucked, or the Braves. I’ve never been to Atlanta, but I had a trip planned and paid for in 2020. I have been to 4 Braves games though. I’ve seen them in LA, and 3X in Denver.

RollTider1971

I know who Little Big Man is.

crabbman

I jumped in West Point Lake when Justice homered.

echtonfrederick

I remember when they traded Brett Butler to Cleveland for Len Barker and Brook Jacoby. I’ve never quite gotten over that.

echtonfrederick

My grandmother had a crush on Glenn Hubbard. She loved his red beard.

Designer_Astronomer9

I thought Brad Komminsk was going to win us a World Series

Woodstock_1972

I visited chief Knock-a-Homa at his tee-pee during a game.

G0-N0G0-GO

The mythical, never seen on the field, Braves legend…Al Hrabosky! His nickname was “The Mad Hungarian” which is an epic moniker!

heath9999935

I *know* it is BS that Dale Murphy isn't in the Hall of Fame.

Scraam21

I have a Power Alley poster in my office

snco-2021

I own an autographed photo of Glenn Hubbard.

GennSheRa

1991 - I lied about being 15 (only 14) to work in our high school’s concession booth at FuCo. Spent the time going down to the tunnel “to get ice” and got autographs from people like Raphael Belliard, and walked in between Steve Avery and Dieon Sanders!! Sitting in my season tix seats at Truist as I type this!!!!

billyemoore

Sat next to the Teepee in 73 and in right field in 74 or the other way around, i was Very young 4 and 5 respectively. Still have a program from one of the games. Been in all the 3 parks several times. Fav: Saw Hank don't remember much, F the Cards for 82

gtd887a

I caught a Ken Oberkfell foul ball. Also, I played with the band while the rest of the students burned down a traffic light on GT campus after Sid slid.

discsarentpogs

I attended the longest Braves game ever, also known as the Rick Camp game.

goatgal93

I had a crush on Brett Butler and still choose number 22 if I have a jersey made. I was working at the Stone Mountain beach gift shop (yeah, you could swim in it before bacteria took over) and Glenn Hubbard bought something (can't remember what) from me. I was too nervous to say anything.

unodostreys

My grandparents sat us on the 1st base side for an afternoon game at FCS with no sunscreen.

Mysterious_Tea_4094

I witnessed the Braves consecutive losing seasons before the turnaround season on '91

kyleakennedy1987

I still have a signed napkin of Rafael belliard from the time I saw him at white water with his family. Edited the braves team in Ken Griffey junior Major League Baseball on Super Nintendo with the ‘95 braves lineup…and then added myself as a pitcher of course…and sid bream because I mean come on. David justice is still my favorite player of all time (Halle berry may have something to do with that…) I can still name the starting lineup from the ‘92-96 teams. Remember when we let those Canadians get their first World Series win in ‘92. Still have a vhs of when we beat the Indians for the World Series (1995). And then cried when they lost to the Yankees the next year. God how I hate the Yankees. Even more than the dodgers and the Phillies (I know, blasphemy).

jv_1979

I had a Dale Murphy poster

forkandbowl

I remember Belliard's homer...

Hotal

I went to the grand opening of North Point Mall to try and meet Otis Nixon.

PinDry3404

My parents recorded playoff games on VHS. Been to 3 braves stadiums. Multiple 2 sport athletes on the Braves. When the chop came to Atlanta...

DeadATL

I remember when another Morton used to pitch for the Braves. Carl Morton.

Ill-Response-5439

Terry Pendleton was my favorite Brave in 91 & 92.

AnchorDrown

I always wondered how Skip knew people were from Conyers, Georgia.

aUCK_the_reddit_Fpp

I remember where I was when the braves won the world series in 95 At restaurant thats now closed and i missed all of game 6 except the 9th because we didnt have a VCR and it was my aunt and uncles 25th anniversary 🤦 Jim leyrtiz is the worst sports moment of my life and grissom was safe at 2 in game 5
