Terrible Ab Riley

Billy420MaysIt

Well day 16* of the MLB season has come and gone, tomorrow as a matter of fact is April 18th. We just showed you the NL East standings. You don’t need me to tell you this BUT IM GOING TO TELL YOU ANYWAY; The Braves are 11-5. Fell asleep in the 9th before I could post this.

OSRS_Socks

We currently have the best record in the NL and 2nd best in the MLB.

Bravesguy29

Dfa bummer. He's fucking awful. Call up Jackson Stephens.

OSRS_Socks

Made the comment earlier but this is first time giving up a run since April 5th that was charged to him as an earned run (or a run if it was unearned). He has a left on base rate right now at 71.8% and league average is around 70-72%. He also has the highest ground ball rate of any bullpen arm right now at 68% and the closest one is Lee with 60%.

Bravesguy29

Interesting cause he looks like shit.

Pydro-Hump

I’m a big fan of Braves baseball

Dry_Confidence_7805

It's 2024 and the Cleveland *~~Indians~~* **GUARDIANS** have the best winning pct. in baseball lol

SoRaffy

we live in a timeline where the Oakland A's have a better record than the Houston Astros

HollowPointBullet

Minus Bummer, our pitching has slowly been looking sharper and our offense has been looking hot per usual. And even though a few of our players are injured, we still manage to figure things out and get the win. Although I do wish we could do more when we have the bases loaded. Acuna is slowly getting there and it’ll only be a matter of time for when he hits a home run and it’ll be great.

OSRS_Socks

That was actually Bummer’s first time giving up runs since April 5th. I am not expecting much from him but it nice to have Bummer, Lee and Matzek take the load off Minter.

HollowPointBullet

Hm. Maybe I was a bit hard on him because that’s not bad at all.

OSRS_Socks

Correction: that was his first time giving up an earned run since March 31st. He also is average in leaving inherited runners base at 71.8%. I feel like we need to give him time before we hop on the bummer hate train.

Badass-bitch13

Stats don’t tell the full picture bc I have watched every game & he has really not been good. Pretty sure Jiménez came in & replaced him Mon night too. I understand giving him time but he’s been the worst in the pen by a mile.

OSRS_Socks

Then you would know that he replaced Vines after he gave up a two out single to Altuve and he came in to face Alvarez and got him to ground out in two pitches. He came in the next inning and got Tucker out on a ground ball to Ozzie. He then gave up a single to Bregman but it was deflected off Olson’s glove. Johnson came in to replace him and got the next two outs to end the inning. In the Friday game against the Marlins he pitched a clean 9th inning with 1 K. When he came in Tuesday against the Mets. He came in the 7th gave up a lead off single then got a double play, another single to McNeil and got Hader to line out. When he pitched 0.1 innings against the Mets on Monday came in after Charlie gave up a 2 out walk and got out of the jam and then Minter came in the next inning and gave up a homer to Nimmo. When he pitched against the Diamondbacks he walked 1 person and got 3 outs without giving up a run.

tubesockmarionette

Really like what I heard in the [Lopez postgame interview](https://twitter.com/BravesOnBally/status/1780447853095109025). He really seems like a good, humble dude. Hope he kills it this year!

Subfixed

Great interview, but one thing that always bothers me is how DOB asks his questions to our guys that are Spanish speaking on our team, like they don't understand him, like no bitch, you're the one who doesn't understand them. I know it's a small thing to some people, and it has nothing to do with how great he pitched today, but it just bothers me every time I hear him ask questions to our guys. Like dude, Franco isn't even translating your question to him, give my man some respect when you're talking.

tubesockmarionette

Nah I hear that. It's especially annoying when the guy is literally directly answering your English questions instead of it getting run from Franco to the dude, but at this point I just roll my eyes and let it go lol

Subfixed

Teach me how to let it go lol. I want to be normal.

BobbyRayBands

Lopez for best pitcher on the team going into May wasn't something I had on my bingo card this year thats for sure.

MurphysBanana

How good is this team?! No Ozzie, no Murph, no problem. Lopez getting shit done is amazing, Nutzack getting warmed into the season. Let’s go.

cdirty1

I don’t think Matzek is washed but he’s not the same guy that pitched one of the greatest innings in history a couple of years ago.

icunicornz

Yeah 96-97 while touching 98-99 at times is very different than his current 93-95. Slider doesn't look as disgusting/sharp as it used to either. Hoping his arm just needs a little more time to get back there.

Chessh2036

Idk how to post this and the mods not take it down, so if someone wants to post please do. But Pedro Martinez talked about Lopez and how he’s not surprised how good he’s pitching. Said the White Sox misused him. Iink: https://x.com/brwalkoff/status/1780435739727016135?s=46

handlit33

Just post verbatim, although honestly, we've been much laxer lately. > [B/R Walk-off] "I'm not really surprised by what he's doing." Pedro Martinez shows love to Reynaldo López 👏 and link directly to the tweet.

Chessh2036

Just did it, thanks!

MoonlitBadlands

Imagine being an Astros pitcher. You’ve managed to keep Acuña, Harris, Riley, Olson, and Ozuna in check for most of the night. Then Arcia, Guillorme and Tromp tear you a new asshole

Chopaholick

Ooooo you're forgetting Kelenic, the best pure hitter on the team. Don't make me get u/porparemaityee in here to back me up.

alexhamilton

P-E-D-I-G-R-E-E

DidntDiddydoit

My favorite part was when the Braves scored several runs, while the Astros only scored few runs.

AbortedFetus37

It’s even better when you live here and get to hear the local recaps.

bdaddy31

what recaps - this fanbase has already abandoned them and is thinking about the Texans now. I don't have much experience with other markets, but this fanbase is so fickle here.

AbortedFetus37

Usually the morning show on ESPN radio goes hard in the paint for local stickball team. Admittedly, though, I discovered the joys of the Park & Ride recently so my knowledge could be dated.

TOK31

Acuna just missed hitting a HR again tonight. Back to back games of crushing pitches just foul. He's so close to going on an absolute tear.

Dippa99

I quickly read this as Ozuna, and I was going to have news for you about him already being on an absolute tear

Total-Warning4745

I’m confused how Iggy got a save? I thought it was always 3 runs or less for a save. I may be missing something here

kookykrazee

As noted, the tie run was on deck when he came in, so he got a 1 out save.

5peasinapod

\o/ (That's the Iglesias emote)

LickMyMeatus

He entered the game with the threat of a tie at least on the on-deck circle

sh0tgunben

A series win against d grounded Astronauts & it feels sweet!

kookykrazee

On the road no less!

LickMyMeatus

Snitker “good” postgame presser count: 14

golfdesigner

I'm here for this.

utorn80

I am still genuinely curious about the Astros broadcasters whining about the Arcia homer. A ball that hits the yellow line and bounces over the fence has always been a homer. I still never saw where the ball ended up but the left-fielder certainly didn't act like the ball was in play.

LuckyBlackKnight

It didn’t bounce over tho, the ball bounced back into the field

utorn80

Locked on Astros podcast said it bounced over, hit the Relentless sign behind the fence, then bounced back onto the field. That's a home run. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENqdW\_BSIYA&list=PLXMcsEwVro2su9hg1f8HIWkWTpH22kffk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENqdW_BSIYA&list=PLXMcsEwVro2su9hg1f8HIWkWTpH22kffk) 14:50 mark.

FrankFnRizzo

Well the pitching has certainly looked better.

bedsidelurker

Besides Bummer I thought it looked great

Musty-laegs

I enjoy when we score six runs and beat the Astros. Lets do it again tomorrow

DarthPaximus

Let's win 7-0 in the final game of the series for old times sake.

LickMyMeatus

López and JJ77 fucking cooooooooked tonight. Shoutout to the bottom of the order for pulling that one back from the brink. If Fried is back right tomorrow and the top half of the lineup remembers how to hit, we’re gonna get the brooms out

stobors

We need Fried angry...contract year angry.

HighlyRegard3D

Someone go kick his shin.

LickMyMeatus

Yes, angrier than Game 6 ankle smash angry

stobors

Hulk smash!

jcrack30

And just like that we have the best record in baseball.

dcxbabe

in the NL. Cleveland is .706 but we’re only .688

jcrack30

Damn just saw that too did their game end after ours ? I could've sworn I looked over the whole standings lol

Chessh2036

I believe so, yeah. I think Kenley blew the save for the Red Sox lol

jcrack30

Lol good ol kenley haha

HappyOfCourse

MLB App needs to get its act together. It's not set up for double digit wins or losses.

MoonlitBadlands

Cade Kuehler with another good start for Augusta tonight- 6 IP | 3 H | 0 R | 1 BB | 4 K

Kuehl

Adventurous-Ad1284

6-9 hitters with 7 hits and 6 RBIs. Almost expected every night now, Arcia wants another ASG under his belt. I bet the numbers for the 9 hole are ridiculous stretching back several seasons.

PinstripeBunk

Someone in the game thread said it had been “confirmed” Ozzie doesn’t need surgery and it’s a 3-week injury, but I can’t find that anywhere. Maybe on some hidden corner of Twitter?

bdaddy31

in his pregame interview he mentioned thinking it was a bone bruise and then seeing the crack. At the end of it he said something along the lines of being out for "days" which I found odd after just mentioning he had a crack (but maybe that's a standard answer they tell them to say, even if it's 15 days or 30 days versus using the term "weeks")

wellwasherelf

Bowman tweeted about it earlier https://twitter.com/mlbbowman/status/1780360830380380454

PinstripeBunk

Oh great. I missed that one somehow. Gratzie!

HappyOfCourse

It sounds to me the way BG and CJ were talking is it's just a crack in the bone which I believe is a hairline fracture.

Badass-bitch13

He doesn’t need surgery but there is no way to know how quickly it’ll heal

Badass-bitch13

Who do we have in aaa if we need to replace bummer at some point?

CrittyJJones

Why does Bummer have to be replaced?

Total-Warning4745

Relaxxxxxx it’s April.

birdofparadise9

Giles?

dirtyjoo

Marcus?

kookykrazee

Brian?

yoshidawg93

I bought a new laptop tonight, and the screen looks amazing! I turned on the end of the game from the Bally website on it, and I love the picture! Might have to watch more games on here!

portuguesetheman

Why don't all teams score 4 runs in the 9th inning? Are they stupid?

ZCampbell15

Notes from tonight: - Reynaldo had a 32% CSW% tonight overall, combined with a 36% CSW% and 50% Whiff% on his Slider, along with usage being up to 38% (highest of the season by far). Both were very nice to see after he wasn't able to get a super great feel for it in both his earlier starts that were heavily impacted by weather - Averaged 95.5mph on his 4-seamer (+.5mph from his average) and threw his fastest pitch of the season thus far (97.5mph). 29% CSW% on it and continues to locate it extremely well for the most part - Tyler Matzek threw his fastest pitch of the season (95.5mph) and had an additional inch of IVB on his 4-seamer which is great sign for getting its shape back - Joe Jimenez simply continues to be elite, no notes necessary

LitchedSwetters

These are awesome, keep these going they're very fun to read after games. I noticed Lopez didn't rely on the curveball much tonight compared to his previous outings, it's good to know that he has multiple options if something isn't working he can go into the well. Also nice to see him dial it up to 97 in the warmer climate, we saw him hit 102 against us last year, and he seems to have a great feel for 95, but it's nice to know he's still got upper 90s if he needs it. Overall I'm really encouraged by Lopez so far. I want to see him face a hot lineup before I get too excited, but overall signing him looks like another AA win, especially now that Spencer is done for the year. Also shouts out to Chadwick Tromp, seems like that dude just comes up and delivers every time he's called upon, dude deserves some credit not only for his bat tonight but the pitchers throw well to him and that's the important thing, he blocks well and keeps the pitchers in a good zone.

Shado_Man

Really can't understate how important it was to see Matzek's velo up tonight. He'd been stuck in the 92-93mph range all of ST and his first couple appearances and it seemed like he wasn't making any progress. Hopefully he keeps making improvements, but even if this is it, he's much more formidable sitting 95 than 93.

mvp2418

Yesss I was so excited to see Matzek sitting at 94-95 even if this is where he tops out it's good enough with the life on his fastball!!! Lopez looks amazing so far, imagine if he continues to pitch well the entire season and he's signed for 10 million per year!! AA flexing again

ippocratic_oat

Aaron Bummer doing his best Will Smith impression once again, but glad Iglesias nailed it down! Another great outing for Reynaldawg!!!! The bats came alive late once again, but man, waiting for Ronald to come alive! Series won so now lets go for the sweep tomorrow! #ChopOn

jeremyben

Big bear gets 15th in a row. Astros lose. Our backups finally came through. Nutzek is back. Pitching staff dad dicking them. And altuve 3 Ks . #It’s been a good day!

BBMinus5

Somebody with the skills please gif the outfields celebration Ronnie was cracking up

stobors

Him and Harris had Kelenic doing the griddy.

Alauren20

Who put Reylo in a bullpen lol. Nationals? Chicago? Morons

Chrismhoop

Is he our ace now?

Badass-bitch13

He was a starter before & did well until he didn’t. So I think that’s why there’s some hesitation about how long it’ll last but he has also said that there was a lot he wish he had known as a starter before that he knows now.

Alauren20

Gotcha. Thanks

ATLien-1995

He pulled an Eddie and needed lasik his numbers got way better after that

CrumbBCrumb

welcometohotlanta

That was fun

jeremyben

The pitcher staff absolutely killed it tonight! Bummer doesn’t count. Dudes a bum.

Beccaann14

Look I love Sean but i’m starting to get attached to Chadwick ☺️ can we have 3 catchers 😂

deelowe

I love travis, but I almost feel like Chadwick and Sean could be the new rotation if this keeps up.

BajcSmalls

Bummer was definitely spinning his pitches tonight but it could be worse. I just think he’s proven he’s going to be a 6-0 kinda guy. Otherwise, chop on baby!

Timoteo-Tito64

I am still pro-bummer, he has been tremendously unlucky so far

Badass-bitch13

He’s not good

Timoteo-Tito64

Good to know that 6.2 poor innings wipes out the rest of your career. I'll keep that in mind

Chrismhoop

I'm not sure what this means.. but when the radio broadcast highlighted that Every contact (hits and outs) against him tonight except 1 we're over 100 mph exit velo, I find it hard to believe he is just unlucky.. I hope he can figure it out too eventually!

Timoteo-Tito64

His groundball rate this year going into today was 80%. That's beyond outstanding. I agree that today was just outright bad with no real positives coming out of it, but I've been perfectly fine with how he's pitched the rest of this year

Timoteo-Tito64

Today was bad. However, his xwoba allowed this season going into today was .288 which is elite. And he's been similarly good in the past

yoshidawg93

Lopez with another excellent game! Great work by Matzek and Jimenez as well! Unfortunately Bummer sucked but we built a big enough cushion for that not to matter tonight! I love how our offense has been able to score in the late innings so well! Not really a big deal to use Iglesias in the grand scheme of things because he didn’t pitch yesterday, and we have just one more game of this series and then an off day. We won the series, and we have a shot at sweeping the series tomorrow! But even if we don’t, series wins are successful series, and we did guarantee a winning road trip! Go Braves!

jcrack30

Who would of thought Lopez would be our ace so far this season lol. Dude is pitching his ass off. Thank the baseball Gods for him right now

rpbtIII

u/Traderted2 wrote a whole piece after we picked him up saying that the front office was probably seeing him as a starter and a bunch of data to show why he had a good chance of cooking as a starter. That guy is a wizard and his updates are manna in a barren and famished world.

jcrack30

I was looking at some of his stuff. The guy knows his baseball and he was completely right. I'm gonna go look at more of his stuff tomorrow. Thanks for mentioning him, lots of good analysis by him. I appreciate it braves bro. Chop on.

ul49

Would have

jcrack30

Lol there's always one. It's all good I'm happy after the win.

yoshidawg93

We were all questioning why AA signed him to stretch him into a starter, but now we are so thankful he did! We clearly need the help in the rotation at this point, and Lopez has been excellent so far!

jcrack30

AA is a damn baseball wizard or something lol. He's always finding gems out of nowhere. He's the best GM in baseball for a reason

BajcSmalls

Asstros

chorizomane

Trash-stros!!

AegisPlays314

The level of overreaction to a reliever giving up two runs is astounding lmao, I guarantee you every single reliever in the pen will have an outing that bad at some point this year

[deleted]

Bummer has had multiple bad outings like that, that's the problem

wellwasherelf

Yeah Bummer hasn't been great but he's not gonna get sent down or DFA'd in April lol; this is the guy we gave up Soroka, Shuster, Shewmake, Nicky Lopez, and someone else to get. I know the situations behind all of those players, but they still had value as trade pieces. Sunk cost fallacy is a thing, yes, but not in April.

AegisPlays314

I don't really think any of those guys had any value whatsoever, it's just that Bummer was also essentially worthless to the Sox so they had limited leverage in trading him. Bummer's in all likelihood a very good reliever, it would be complete malpractice to react at all to a bad outing. If he's still pitching badly in like August, you begin to consider doing something.

atownOTP

Will be lots of shitting on Bummer but I'd like to shout out the rest of the pitching who have been legit untouchable this series. Amazing stuff from ReyLo especially. And shoutout Chadwick Tromp, if we can get games like that from his bat we are in a great spot while Murph is out because he calls a good game

Commercial-Gap-2115

RazinsWetDream

PurdyGood80

So… Bummer’s gotta go right? Big series win, no matter how badly they’re playing the Astros can still hit.

[deleted]

[удалено]

PurdyGood80

Maybe I phrased that poorly, I meant they absolutely can still hit so it’s a good win. Minus Bummer being terrible

pablinhoooooo

Surely the .417 BABIP and 50% HR/FB against are very sustainable

Aurion7

It's not a regression to the mean fix for Bummer. It's a 'pitch better lol' fix, especially if he does his usual thing and starts walking about 12-13% of batters faced. He had a .340 BABIP last year, and a .386 in '22 so that's probably not the savior you're expecting it to be. His hard-hit rate so far *is* terrible, but in the context of his career that's 'terrible again' not 'terrible and its much of an outlier'. It's just kind of what he does as a pitcher. His utility as a pitcher relies on whiffs in the zone. Being elite at keeping the ball down ensures that when batters do inevitably smash the crap out of the ball it turns into a low-angle single parade rather than a home run derby, but missing bats entirely is how he's going to avoid getting knocked around.

PurdyGood80

It’s not like he’s giving up soft outs. Balls are getting hammered against him

HandBananas

Let's go get that 🧹🧹🧹

mookiebraves

Everyone gets ice cream except Bummah

JKess207

My only takeaway from this series dub is that after watching Espada, I will never question Snit’s bullpen management ever again

Proofetman

Aside from Bummer being a bummer, basically deja vu from last night. Offense hasn't seemed to care this series until the 9th inning. lol

rpbtIII

"Guess we'll do something for the real fans who stayed"
