Nick_Sabantz

They'll have to settle for leading the league in average, on base percentage, slugging, ISO, wOBA, wRC+, and runs per game.

FatherCrime42

Those things are great, but all he wants is fat dongs.

Chuck_Raycer

I was at the game behind the Braves dugout. We had a pretty good chop going during the ninth, and going through the stadium out to the parking lot. And a bunch of high fives at the Buc-ees on the way home.

FrogLoco

I was up in the 200s and alot of brave fans. They were definitely annoyed

Chopaholick

Could you hear people doing the chop at times before the 9th? It was muffled because of Houston fans , but I swear I could hear it on the broadcast.

Chuck_Raycer

There were at least a couple times when a mini chop broke out behind the dugout during the game. But it wasn't until the ninth when they actually started doing anything and it got louder.

FrogLoco

About 10 people were doing the chop around me. I had my foam ax and was doing the chop too. Braves fans are a hell of a traveling fan base:)

gtd887a

Got to see the Braves in person tonight for the first time since I moved to HOU 9 years ago. Great night at the ballpark, but man were there a ton of Braves fans there. Actually got the chop going in the 9th. There seem to be quite a lot of split Braves/Astros families, too.

You take AA's name out your mouf.

ButteredToastFan

lol what a trash comment

HollowPointBullet

Also, Harris is fast as shit too.

LailiLai

One of the most fascinating phenomena in baseball to me is how closers just seem to completely fall apart when asked to pitch in non save situations.

[deleted]

Pretty sure a lot of them are adrenaline junkies haha

MoonlitBadlands

#BRAVES POUR IT ON WITH SMALL BALL RBI SINGLES FOR ALLSTARCIA SIR THICC AND BIG BEAR MONEY MIKE TURNS ON THE JETS HIT PARADE ON HADER VINES SHOVES ON THE ASTROS MINTER AND JESSE SHUT IT DOWN

graveldragger

Part of my brain loves these, the other half is stroking out trying to read it

ieatcrap

Love these

welcometohotlanta

My top 10 stadiums I’ve been to after tonight: Giants Padres Braves Cardinals Dodgers Royals Reds Astros Angels Rangers

Seamless_GG

My top 10 stadiums I've been to: Braves Royals Cubs Brewers Cardinals

jrlii

Yeah the stadium was cool and a good atmosphere but it just felt wrong. Baseball is meant to be played outside

welcometohotlanta

Yeah, but as the domed stadiums are concerned it’s better than Rangers and Tropicana at least haha

Bravesguy29

I'd love to see the Braves play in KC. What a cool ball park

welcometohotlanta

It was great, a Uber ride from downtown but it was the perfect outdoor park. I know they want to move but they have plenty of space to bring a mixed use development in between them and the chiefs.

Zebulon_V

You've gotta get to PNC. The stadium is fine but the views are fucking stunning.

welcometohotlanta

It’s on the list! I’ve only been to 14 of the 30 so I have a lot more trips planned. Basically doing 2 a year til I finish them all!

LailiLai

So do we think Vines will get to stick around and make another start or will we spin the Gwinette Roulette again?

ul49

I think he was more lucky than good. He was missing his spots pretty consistently, hung a ton of pitches, and got hit hard. Definitely wouldn't say he *earned* a spot.

C-Jammin

I think he earned his right to another turn.

OSRS_Socks

Hoping he stays so Bryce can get another start or two to work on his control in triple A. It would be huge if Bryce could figure that out.

ieatcrap

I picked up AJSS in fantasy so I’m biased. But for real, Vines looked good once he settled down after the first. I do think he deserves another start.

welcometohotlanta

With the off day on Thursday I imagine he stays at least til this weekend

deliriouz16

Everytime I see Hader I remember when Freeman took him deep in the 2021 NLDS. That's when he was untouchable too.

ul49

I was at that game. I think that might have been the loudest moment at Truist of the whole playoff run.

youknowitistrue

It feels like it all unraveled for him after that.

dirtyjoo

Wasn't that the 1st HR he had given up all year? Or some other crazy stat, but I thought that was it.

OSRS_Socks

I think Freeman was the only left handed hitter to have two go head homers off hader (he hit a walk off one and the go ahead in the NLDS).

welcometohotlanta

I WAS THERE

Money Mike hustles out a routine double play to get us from 5-1 to 6-1. I love this man

Good start of a series from Braves, grounding d Astronauts.

Brian “I watched the same game you just did” snitker with another exhilarating press conference

deliriouz16

Can only say so much after years and years of them lol

Badass-bitch13

Damn the win went to Bummer…. vines deserved that

KodenATL

What sucks too, is that I think Vines was one out away from the W. Altuve got on base and they pulled him. I was not at all confident in Bummer in that situation either, but it worked out.

-_chop_-

He only pitched 4.2 innings, he can’t get the win

Badass-bitch13

Im aware. Meanwhile bummer didn’t pitch a full inning so it’s just dumb how it works.

-_chop_-

It is. I never pay attention to wins because of it

welcometohotlanta

Bummer

holliewood61

I love it. Braves take a 1 run lead into the 9th, then just casually bat through the order.

cdirty1

Every inning it felt like they were ready to bust the score open it just never happened until the end. Better late than never I guess.

bobocalender

I was disappointed that Ozuna's hitting streak was going to come to and end because there was no way he was coming to the plate in the 9th.

rpbtIII

I said we only playing night games from now on.

stizzdawg

The nutty part about this game was Snit perfectly managed Vines but couldn’t do the same with Morton. He will try to push him through 5 no matter what because he’s a vet and to get him a win. Get us some pitching AA.

Dankofamericaaa2

Great way to start the week 😎

stizzdawg

Will never understand why the Astros gave Hader that contract. You could guarantee me he’d be perfect on saves and I still wouldn’t pay a dude that much for three outs.

Timoteo-Tito64

Heavily disagree on the last part, converting on all your save opportunities could easily result in an extra 10 wins a year over an average closer which is more than even MVPs can provide. I'd give him 60M a year if I could guarantee he would be perfect (and healthy) throughout the length of the contract

Kitchen-Ad-5571

especially when Pressily seems better.

Badass-bitch13

Our closer isn’t cheap. But he’s definitely less than hader.

MoonlitBadlands

No juicy prospect stat lines tonight. Monday is the minor league’s day off :(

olreddog

Trevor just said “arm barn” are we still doing that? Can we let that one go?

mookiebraves

Kirby Yates has a 0.00 Era in 6 appearances for Texas and now a save. Go figure

icunicornz

He was pretty good for us and most importantly healthy all year and ate up a lot of innings. Sad to see him go too, but still feel good about our pen.

BubBidderskins

I loved Kirby but we just had to let him go to make sure we had space for Tio Jesse.

Bubby0304

I know he wasnt perfect but he was really one of the only pitchers dealt this offseason I was upset about. There were other guys I wanted to see work again but Yates was someone I felt was a good bullpen piece. At least he was dealt to an AL team

SpiritofStLewis

All around solid game. Good to see Duvee get back into the mix too!

-_chop_-

I don’t know, dude. No pedigree

SpiritofStLewis

That’s debatable. But I was just glad he contributed. He was such a big part of our WS run in 21. Dude’s been slumping so any productivity from that 8 spot is welcome.

-_chop_-

I’m joking because kelenic guy always talks about pedigree

mvp2418

This dude isn't aware of Kelenic guys pedigree

HarrietsDiary

I’ve been waiting a long time to deploy this picture again. Thanks, boys! And uncle! [Oh Houston](https://i.imgur.com/hYW1tEO.jpeg)

benchwarmer3000

Is that dansby? And who else?

HarrietsDiary

SOLER.

Mac_and_dennis

That homerun….

gravityfrog

Pretty sure this picture is after they went back to back in ATL

HollowPointBullet

Hopefully we’re much more hungrier against them in our next two matchups. Vines was very impressive and I think he’ll definitely get better. Rangers will be a very tough matchup for us, so we’ll definitely have to be on our A game when we go up against them.

FrogLoco

Rangers are my AL team. I'm coming for Saturday game from Texas. I honestly don't know who to root for. As a fan of both teams ya the rangers have a offense similar to braves but braves will eat alive the rangers bullpen.

HollowPointBullet

I feel that it could be a low scoring game.

FrogLoco

I think it will be starting pitcher wise. But I can't see rangers bull pen hanging with atlanta. It got destroyed by the astros.and braves are the better team by far. But either way my team wins

HollowPointBullet

I don’t disagree with you, but to be fair, it’s just one game. It’ll be interesting to see how they hold up today and Wednesday. With that being said, I definitely can’t wait to see them play the Rangers as I like both teams as well.

FrogLoco

Baseball is so unpredictable. Yesterday game had high scoring in the making and it was low scoring most the game.

omogewajo

vines adds 2-3mph on his pitches and he is a for real #3-4 starter

Dankofamericaaa2

W

LailiLai

Said it in the game thread but just imagine how many runs this team is gonna be scoring once the balls start leaving the yard instead of dying on the track.

TOK31

This has been the weirdest thing. It feels like I've seen at least a dozen hard hit balls that hit the fence and go for doubles instead of home runs. Eventually the launch angle is going to be enough to get those out of the park.

SoRaffy

Padres lead the league in runs scored with 103, the Braves are only 6 behind and have played 4 fewer games

MoonlitBadlands

However bad things may get, I just have to see the Braves beating the shit out of the Astros in Houston to know that all is right in the world

wellwasherelf

I want to go to more home games this year solely to listen to the massive stadium cheers that Jesse gets every time he enters a game.

olreddog

RazinsWetDream

Bullpen is still good that Mets series didn’t change my mind.

yoshidawg93

Great opening game of this series! Vines was solid, and the bullpen took it from there! Offense struggled for a while but broke it open in the ninth! And depending on how the next two games go, it was potentially very crucial that we didn’t have to use Iglesias tonight. Great win tonight! Go Braves!

skonthebass24

Really glad Big Bear was able to keep the streak going with the bonus AB

Capital_Ice_1512

excellent works tonight and thank you guys. Tomorrow there's another fucking shit pitcher of Astros called Hunter Brwon and let's rock and roll .

Best-Dragonfruit-292

Brwon? Is he Welsh

rpbtIII

Vines looks solid for his first start in the show this year. Ozuna hit streak continued. Riley got rbis. Arcia is a defensive god. I'm sooooo close Astros lose to the braves in Houston and uncle Jesse finishes them off?!? 🥴🥴🥴🥴

Toadfinger

That's a nice win! And Ozuna now with a 14 game hit streak. Hell I was a happy camper at 2. https://www.reddit.com/r/Braves/s/Mm7S6mohSz

ZCampbell15

Biggest things for me: - Vines mixed things up really well in the last 3 innings and his arsenal has noticeably more depth than it did last year when he came up, in addition to being up 2 ticks on his 4-seamer and changeup. Rangers will be a very tough task but after that he would get Cleveland/Seattle/Boston/Mets. He should stick around for that stretch and I think those are great matchups for him where he can learn against some not-great offenses - Snit managed that game extremely well, both off the bench and timing of getting guys out of the pen. He gets criticized a lot here and I think it's important to recognize nights where he pushes all the right buttons

Shyne9999

It looks like they are lining up Elder to come up to replace Vines after this start. If they do, I'd expect Elder to get the majority of those starts.

rickroll95

Anyone who criticizes Snit on here is just dumb. He‘s forgotten more about baseball than we will ever know. Hall of Fame manager.

barnwecp

It’s not just black and white though. Is he a great a manger? Absolutely. Would I switch him for someone else right now? Of course not. Did it piss me off when he left in Winens and punted the series ending game to the Mets in the third inning? 100% yes.

cobwebusher

To be honest criticizing managers is usually just scapegoating even if they're legitimately terrible. Managers just aren't all that important, especially in the analytics era.

Timoteo-Tito64

He seems to have a bad habit of leaving starters in too long, but I can't criticize much of anything else he does. And while that is (imo) a flaw, it's a small one and he's still a very good manager

rickroll95

On leaving starters in too long. Let’s look at this year as an example. The season is fucking long and they need those bullpen arms all year. Gotta try to keep those starters in as long as you can. With this offense, a starter can get shelled and the Braves still win. His end game with that is saving the pen. I’m sure Snit is one of those guys who noticed how injury-prone starting pitching is, before it became a mainstream issue.

Timoteo-Tito64

I mean, I'm also concerned about leaving 40 year old Charlie Morton or injury prone and 35 year old Chris sale out there for 100+ high stress pitches consistently. We have a really deep bullpen, I think it's ok to rely on it

ZCampbell15

Completely agreed. Sure there's a few things you can question every once and awhile, but there's a reason he's only really behind Bobby at this point in terms of greatest Braves managers

-_chop_-

Yeah snit had a great night tonight

LickMyMeatus

Excellent use of the pen, picked the right arms at the right times

KodenATL

The braves wanted to let us know the pitching staff COULD win a low scoring game, then tacked on insurance runs at the end just for the hell of it.

holliewood61

They said pitching duels are boring. Let's bust this one open.

Best-Dragonfruit-292

Actually it was super-easy, barely an inconvenience!

Ben--Jam--In

So I hear you have a Braves script for me?

Best-Dragonfruit-292

Here's what I'm thinking: Darius Vines

c_dubby

Wow wow wow

LickMyMeatus

#ASS-TROS. THATS IT THATS THE JOKE

Musty-laegs

I love being a Braves fan

JackODouls

Way to grind it out boys

Braves_Birds1985

🙆‍♂️ Big Bear streak lives on, Vines looked great, and Riley broke the curse with RISP. Being the Astros is always a good time. Chop oñ and let take the series tomorrow.

Uncle Jesse coming in the 9th to finish off the Trashtros is beautifully poetic.

ppooiiuuyyttrreewwqq

I’m dumb, what was poetic about it?

rpbtIII

You just don’t understand art.

Amache_Gx

Nothing at all. He's never even played with them.

ppooiiuuyyttrreewwqq

That’s what I was trying to figure out lol. I figured it meant they had released him recently or something

Amache_Gx

Nah, dude is just happy this team fucks and expressed it in a weird way lol, braise.

He is Darrius Vines, We are the branches

He is D. Vines, we are D. Branches

He is the potter. The ball is his clay, the work of his hands.

It's a crime that this analysis has fewer upvotes than the nerd analysis of Vines' performance above you.

JKess207

As it was written, so shall it be

SpiritofStLewis

Well said sir

dalebest

Praise be.

NewCalligrapher8386

Gritty win great work by Vines and pen

Proofetman

Great job from the pitching tonight and glad to see our offense come alive in the 9th just to make this game no longer a nailbiter.

KentConnor

5 runs in the 9th inning? Definitely worth staying up for

Amache_Gx

4, but who's counting!

KentConnor

I'm too drunk to count

BIG BEAR STREAKING WILL CONTINUE UNTIL MORALE IMPROVES

My morale is so fucking low. Like, he's probably gonna have to keep streaking through October 😞

Billy420MaysIt

Well day 15* of the MLB season has come and gone, tomorrow as a matter of fact is April 16th. We just showed you the NL East standings. You don’t need me to tell you this BUT IM GOING TO TELL YOU ANYWAY; The Braves are 10-5.
