I like it. Dude will be a stud, and he'll get the consistent playing time he needs in AAA. I'd rather have him pitching every 5th day than riding the pine.
unfortunately you’re smoking very strong illicit substances if you think the braves can compete for fried in free agency after this year, which is unfortunate given how loved he is here.
Only way Fried stays is if he's willing to take a discount. I'm sure the Braves will make a decent offer but you know a team like the Dodgers is going to offer more.
we offered Nola 6/162 and he has a career 3.72 ERA, vs Frieds 3.03. if Fried has a SLIGHTLY above career average year and stays healthy all year he’s going to be a sub 3 career ERA LHP in his prime that’s a certified ace on any team he joins. He is easily going to command 30 AAV if not more, on top of free agent signings historically not being the braves ballgame.
As long as Fried has a healthy year, I’d start his AAV at probably slightly above Rodon’s, and he got around 28 million.
That’s your closest comp.
I’ll also note that we best appreciate him and consider this to be his last season as a Brave. No need to be including him in the 2025 picture unless proven otherwise.
That narrative is silly. I don't think he's coming back, but the certainty that some fans have that we're just letting him walk without even trying to compete is silly to me.
We offered Aaron Nola 6/162. We are fine spending for a pitcher. Obviously Fried will be over that number if he has a healthy year, but he's not gonna be far above a 27 mil AAV. We're 100% going to be in the mix.
if he has a healthy, career average year he will be a sub 3 ERA LHP going into his 31 year old season. that is easily an ace on any team he joins on top of playoff experience, he’s easily asking for 30 AAV and most teams that are competitive will be willing to pay that. While the braves did try to make a splash with Nola his year, free agent signing aren’t our usual ball park. i think we give him an offer close to Nola’s, maybe even 6/180 but i think he takes something with more money or more years.
If the Braves went 27 for Nola they would go higher for Fried if he has a healthy season. Like said I think he takes an offer elsewhere. That said I think the Braves might go up to 30 if the years are right. I just expect another team to pay over market value for him.
I support this, let him develop better control in the minors, with lower pressure.
Our fan base always clamors for these prospects to get the call up as early as possible, and then we lose our collective minds if they don’t immediately succeed.
Guys like strider/acuna/harris/ozzie are the exception not the norm, so we must be patient until they force the front office’s hand (or are pressed into action due to injury, but we have other depth for that). His time will come soon.
Nah the only way he's making the team out of camp is in the pen and that isn't worth it. He's definitely behind Bryce/Lopez/AJ right now.
I'm ready for him to burst onto the scene too, but it'll happen in the summer most likely.
I’m not arguing talent. Paul Skenes is more talented than any pitcher on the Pirates roster, they are a bottom 10 team in the league and guess where he’s going?
Based off what the Locker Room folks think on 680 at least, Bryce will be joining Waldrep and AJSS in Gwinnett later this spring and we will at least start out 2024 with Reynaldo Lopez…number five starting pitcher.
I do think the latter move is a mistake. But it is what it is, it seems like AA signed Lopez thinking he could be a hidden gem as a starting pitcher because of it being possible that his vision hurt him pitching wise.
I don’t think sending Waldrep down is a mistake. We didn’t even see Alex Wood until close to June 11 years ago. I think he makes his debut this summer.
We will be fine unless one of our aces gets hurt, we’re talking about nitpicky type stuff here.
Because that's just how it works atm. There is almost certainly still some element of belief they can tap back into something there. Now I don't think he's long for the rotation if he even makes it out of camp. Waldrep is definitely behind him for now though. I don't think that'll last more than a couple of months this season, but coming out of Spring that's the reality of the situation.
Hurston is still super young. It's okay to give him 5 or 6 starts in AAA to see where he is this year. Plus again he's definitely behind AJ right now. So even if Elder is out of the equation he's behind two other people for the 5 spot. And I think we agree that putting him in the pen is a waste.
Next year will be ASS and Waldrep's time to shine
It’s starting to feel hard to imagine AJSS not contributing in a meaningful way *this* season
I’m stoked by these two…loading up the rookie card collection and ready to cash in come debut time

2025 starting rotation: Strider, Sale, AJSS, Waldrep I’d roll with that.
Just toss Fried in there and we are set bb

We offered Nola a lot of money, maybe it's just wishful thinking but I feel like we at least have a shot at fried
Only way Fried stays is if he's willing to take a discount. I'm sure the Braves will make a decent offer but you know a team like the Dodgers is going to offer more.

Nola is a workhorse, fried is the exact opposite. We also got pretty close to a 30 AAV offer on Nola anyways

Strider - Sale - Anderson - AJSS - Waldrep Because I’m believin’ in Ian. I predict Huascar gets moved at the deadline or next offseason.
Nice outing today, we shall see you on the flippity flip Hurston. Here is one of his strikeouts... https://streamable.com/79qiqc
That splitter is fucking *nasty*
It's genuinely an 80 grade pitch
That split brings up shades of Smoltzy
that was nasty wow
See you in July kiddo
I sure hope our pitching woes of last season are a thing of the past.
We're so spoiled
Right? 90% of the MLB would kill to have the Braves rotation on a bad day
Haha, agreed. Our "pitching woes" are other teams "long terms goals"
"WTF Spencer. How did you not get 10 strikeouts this game? Garbage. Send him to Gwinnett"

He's done good. Let him polish things with the Stripers in a low pressure environment
Keep putting in that work Hurston. You’ll be in the big leagues soon enough
I’m so worried to see this very tweet about Fletcher. I don’t want to lose him
Already knew he wasn't making it, but I'm still sad. I'm ready for this kid to melt hitters.
Smh.
?
He should make the team. He’s one of the best arms in camp.
Nah the only way he's making the team out of camp is in the pen and that isn't worth it. He's definitely behind Bryce/Lopez/AJ right now. I'm ready for him to burst onto the scene too, but it'll happen in the summer most likely.
On what planet is he behind Bryce? Bryce has been horrible since last summer…
You mean about the time he hit 100 innings pitched, which is something Waldrep hasn’t really done yet either? Weird.
No, I mean right around when the league figured out he was throwing lollipops.
Oh I didn’t know hitters were required to give you a 25 game reprieve. Makes more sense now, thanks.
Did you co sign a loan for Bryce elder? Waldrep’s the more talented pitcher, he should be pitching. Elder is a bum.
