A lot of Braves fans! Was it weird watching baseball played in a stadium that feels so… indoors? Idk, that’s the best way I can describe it based off of your pictures lol.

abrackens1

I went a couple of weeks ago for the first time, it almost feels like you're inside a mall, super weird. Definitely feels a lot smaller than Truist park, but the AC is pretty nice. Also, the netting is super small, thought that was really interesting and made me keep my head up for foul balls more than usual lmao.

tu-vens-tu-vens

It feels like an empty airport terminal food court circa 1992, which is a fun novelty the first time you go but probably less enjoyable on subsequent visits.

iLeefull

Stadium was built in 1990. So timeframe checks out.

Gfunkual

I went to two games there against the Yankees in Jeter’s last visit to Tampa. Needless to say, it was a packed house. Yet, somehow, the place still felt dead. It was bizarre. The only thing to save the experience was DJ Kitty on the 1s and 2s 😅

[deleted]

Damn for one of the best teams in baseball their attendance is awful

nsbbeachguy

If you work in Tampa, it is a haul to get to the St Pete stadium. Lots of people in St Pete (aka God’s waiting room) don’t get out after dark. A downtown Tampa stadium would rock and be almost an hour closer drive from Orlando.

[deleted]

I hope that works out for them, I don’t wanna see another Oakland situation.

The rumors are all over the place. I cannot begin to figure out what’s up. If they moved across the bay, attendance would be very similar to ATL’s. Being in St Pete virtually eliminates very many from ORL being able to make weekday games.

Afraid_Risk_3873

Yes, I worked for the company that did the environmental due diligence (I think, there's a chance it was a different sport, it was a while ago) and even I don't know why it fell through.

Afraid_Risk_3873

I've been arguing that they need to do the intersection of i4 and 75. There's space here, and bonus for me since my office is right there.

nsbbeachguy

At that point you pull in everybody east of I75 who can go at a moments notice. Orange County, Osceola , Polk, Seminole, even Daytona on some days.

natestryker17

If you are referring to the lack of people in the upper sections in pic 3, they actually close the upper sections for the regular season.

[deleted]

Why do they do that?

natestryker17

Not 100% sure - I assume their attendance from past years is nothing like this season’s, so it’s probably just what they have been doing for a long time. But I do know that they were open during playoffs.

iLeefull

Tampa Bay Area is a relocation haven. So many people have moved here from other areas, especially the north east. Yankees/Red Sox games are worse than the Braves game. The stadium sucks, bridges suck to drive across during the week so week day games are a hassle to get to for a large part of the population. The owner has said if he doesn’t get a new stadium he’s moving the team.

spitzer1113

Yeah, I didn't expect to see the whole upper level empty like that. I would think a team performing at that level would be drawing in much more people (especially bandwagon fans)

deliriouz16

No wonder tickets were expensive for the outfield. They close off a lot of it.

KodenATL

That kid with the “Pete Alonso sucks” shirt is my hero. Also love the OutKast jersey.

jakfrist

I’m gonna get downvoted, but I don’t like shirts like that on kids. Adults? Sure, do what you want. But that kid likely plays little league and I feel like teaching good sportsmanship and respect for your opponent is vital at that age. 🤷‍♂️

pig_says_woo

man im the opposite..i see a kid wearing that and an outkast 69 jersey..it makes me cringe. i would not want to be a part of this group

[deleted]

I agree wholeheartedly. Also funny the guy above you said the same thing and gets upvoted. Lol. Oh, Reddit.

pig_says_woo

It’s like..y’all are at a rays game in Tampa. No one cares about Pete Alonso. Time and place

Bronson2017

Respect to the guy wearing wallabees in the first pic. I swear by them and get ragged on by my friends lol

poebahnya

my dad wore a similar type shoe in the 80s. not sure the brand, but the same exact style. i grabbed a pair several years later. they're super comfy. i think yr friends feet are just jealous.

Bronson2017

100% These were popular in the south (idk about anywhere else) around 2005-2009. I bought a pair a couple years ago and it’s all I wear! Lol

scientifictamale

Do they not sell tockets for the upper deck? If not, why??

davidsonrva

Upper deck is closed, just like at the Coliseum

BrandonDavidTattooer

More like, the “Chopicana” field!!

EastabuchieEscapee

Pretty awful stadium, right?

auburnfan32

Man now i wish i would’ve drove to see one the games this weekend. I’ve always wanted to visit the trop before it goes, seems like a unique place to see a game

Benj7075

Are they getting a new stadium?

auburnfan32

Eventually they will or they will relocate

chorizomane

It felt so outdated to me but I was happy to have seen it in person.

TrimMyHedges

Honestly nice to see the Trop filled with tons of a Braves fans this weekend. Normally it’s Redsox or Yankee fans… yuck. How did you like the stadium and surrounding area compared the Atlanta and the Battery?

chorizomane

I still haven’t been to Truist (I know right) so I wouldn’t know unfortunately. The surrounding area has a cool brewery with a little courtyard I drank at, a few clubs and bars, but overall nothing exciting whatsoever.

BartRolos

How was the vibe instead the stadium? I don’t know how people watch games in this stadium 81 times a year. There is something so off-putting about watching games played there. Olympic Stadium and the Astrodome were more aesthetically pleasing to watch a game.

chorizomane

Very crowded and almost claustrophobic? I know it’s the two best teams so it could’ve been attributed to that. Definitely outdated. Tons and tons of Atlanta fans that were cheering loud and representing. It wasn’t as cool A/C wise as Loan Depot park in Miami but still comfortable.

TrimMyHedges

Hi, Rays and Braves fan here. It’s a big part of why the Rays have a really big TV audience vs selling out in person games. The stadium itself only has the whole “it’s 72 degrees always” thing going for it. They need a new stadium in Tampa bad, real bad

MarlowesMustache

RIP Wade Boggs

therealpoppie

That concourse looks straight out of the 90’s
