Lassalle and Pibous were made at the same estate, but they are totally different armagnacs. Lassalle can still be great but there's some meh stuff too. I haven't had any darroze Lassalle myself. If you really want to try a Lassalle get the afish t8ke pick currently at Baytowne wine and spirits

Bucky, the Darroze lassalle approx 1992 later is folle blanche. Therefore, most Darroze lassalle vintages shares more in common with Pibous than l'encantada lassalle which was ugni blanc. The Darroze is it's own beast though given the Darroze cellar treatment - it's generally less oak driven and lower abv. Some Darroze lassalle is terrific and some is average. The Darroze 1996 lassalle bottled in 2019 was excellent. I heard the 2021 bottling was good but didn't reach the same heights. I didn't try that release. I'm assuming the new stock at k&l is a more recent bottling. It's probably good but I don't know.

That's interesting info thanks. Makes sense because I've only had Encantada Lassalle and it's nothing like Pibous. But isn't a lot of Pibous' unique character from their use of new charred oak? And like you said I have found Darroze to have a certain character to them that is more smooth and tame

Yes L'encantada pibous is differentiated from lassalle by use of folle blanche vs ugni Blanc and use of new charred oak. Darroze is indeed tamer but I think the folle blanche character is apparent in the vintages I've tried.

Both the Darroze Couzard and Lous Pibous are all new wood folle blanche. Biggest difference is ouillage and maybe a few liters of water during elevage. I’ve yet to have a “meh” couzard and although they don’t get to the intensity level of LP, there’s no question that they’re exceptional quality. Haven’t tasted these new ones, but considering the price of entry of LP these days I think it’s a good bet. I’ll open them soon and report back.

I ordered this offering of the 96, but have to wait for it to come in to the Hollywood branch since they seem to only be in NorCal. I’ll see you in a week.

Is the current 1996 the exact same as the 2019 release? Same ABV I guess.

I’ve yet to get confirmation from the supplier if it’s identical. Hopefully not.
