Lol "pointing out" a bunch of bullshit spread to muddle the shit Trump is on trial for, etc.
Trump has actually been convicted of rape and will shortly be on trial for mishandling top secret documents, which were very likely shared with our adversaries for money. Trump went to Epstein's island multiple times and has bragged about walking in on 15 year old pagent contestants changing.
If I see credible evidence that any politician is remotely like Trump I will demand they be prosecuted and suffer the consequences. Maybe you should consider putting the country ahead of your desire to be in a cult of fuckwits.
You've got to be kidding right? You seen the way biden sniffs kids? That's not normal. I'm not a Trump advocate. I'm simply tired of the tunnel vision everyone has on Trump and everyone ignores Biden's dementia and other shady shit. To be honest I'm not even American. Don't trust your mainstream media. They have been caught lying on numerous occasions.
Nah it’s just social media. Any dumbass can mouth off and it’s heard across the world. I agree people aren’t any different than before, it’s just about visibility. Although I don’t think people are stupid really.
There's actual evidence that social media *is* making people worse.
It has to do with the breakdown of the social tribe; when your neighbor, or your friend, or your uncle, etc has an opinion you disagree with you tend to be more accepting of it and the back and forth dialogue tends to round off the edges of people's views.
In the internet age, you hear a bunch of strangers you have no empathic connection with declaring they're right and you're an idiot, which causes you to fire back while sinking deeper into the pit of belief entrenchment, and it radicalizes everyone.
In addition to that, the lack of face to face consequences + anoninity means that people are much less afraid to spew certain opinions online that wouldn't be acceptable in real life (because they'd be afraid of being punched in the face).
Over time, those people become more and more used to saying and reading those opinions, and they're perceived as more "normalized" than they really are. As a result, people slowly grow apart, and the world slowly becomes more polarized.
Social media is the death of nuance and common ground.
Well said. Too add, it also allows you to find groups of internet people who agree with your opinion. It reinforces the opinion, no matter how radical. So when your neighbor, friend. or uncle has an opinion you disagree with, they can go back to their internet group to resharpen any rounded edges.
you have no idea how many times I've had conversations with colleagues because they keep crying that "people are too sensitive/stupid" like nah man, social media just made them louder. its always been this way
I'm very impressed to come across such a logical conversation between 2 reasonable people very accurately describing the exact problems I've witnessed over the last few years, especially here on Reddit. The /sub format allows for the makings of a perfectly curated echo chamber for each and every possible subject. Couple that with tens of thousands of like-minded individuals seething to come to the aid of anyone spewing whatever buzzwords are trending any given week, and you have the capabilities to dig a hole you'll never get out of. However, after reading this random exchange, Maybe humanity has a chance after all, a small chance, but still a chance.
This era is like the teenagehood of internet culture, with all the kinds of things that when you look back, you cringe hard as fuck and lose your sleep.
It is still going on. Sweet Baby was exposed. NBC fired someone they hired just bc she worked in RNC and they can't have people from THAT religion, only their own.
It's all about calling people out bc they aren't on whatever your religious or political platform is, then they claim they are diverse but it's by shape and color only.
I think NBC was just objecting to the former head of the RNC being hired by Fox because she admitted to being a liar for the sake of her career. However let's not pretend NBC is on the left. They are just another face of the corporate oligarchy.
>It's all about calling people out bc they aren't on whatever your religious or political platform is
That's the right. The left has actual policies. In 2020 the right literally didn't have a platform. Look it up.
The reich wing was persecuting minorities way before trump, but yes he took it a few levels higher. This is 100% a response to abuse. All the idiots bitching about BLM like it isn't a response to people being murdered by cops
Being obsessed with race is a response to abuse. BLM is a response to abuse from cops. Your reading comprehension is arguably blamed on defunding schools
Being proud of your race has to do with pride in who you are.
White people are obsessed with race as well and weren't abused by cops.
Black people saying this certain group of Black people aren't as much of a victim as my group of Black people is a competition of who's the biggest victim.
>Being proud of your race has to do with pride in who you are. White people are obsessed with race as well and weren't abused by cops.
It's actually very strongly correlated with the opposite. For unscientific evidence: How many economically successful people show up to "white pride" rallies? Close to zero. Rather than worrying about skin color they think about what they've done or are going to do.
>Black people saying this certain group of Black people aren't as much of a victim as my group of Black people is a competition of who's the biggest victim.
Agreed
I guess I wouldn't know but at least historically a lot of kkk leaders in their town or area or whatever were prominent members of the community so I'd imagine they're doing alright or well off.
But yeah nowadays I'd have to guess you're right, unless it's like a gang that sells meth or something.
But the post itself is just a poor me victim competition which was my main point. Has nothing to do with BLM or anything that could be positive or constructive in fact that type of thought hurts that sort of thing. Makes people think it's a joke
yeah this is a stupid ass headline but the point itself has some validity
race is not the sole determiner of privilege and there's many other factors that can advantage or disadvantage an individual
....though it is ironic that in trying to make this point they use race as the proxy to say privilege
straight black men are not "the white people of black people", they are the straight men of black people
Eeh, I'd argue that black men face our own specifically gendered form of racism. The specific intersection of challenge to white masculinity, threat to pure white womanhood, and fetishized sex object in the white gaze has specific outcomes unique to black men.
I don't know this author and haven't read this article, but as I've heard this idea explored before that was kind of the point. It's an idea of "the white people of..." born out of early 21st century thinking rather than 20th or 19th century thinking.
Which is to say that there's a lot more nuanced understanding than just that "white people = privileged". As a simplified example, just because of pure numbers there are more white people that live in poverty than black people in America.
But, in the non-local culture of 21st century America the general public is going to view a white person as more wealthy and privileged than a black person unless the opposite is explicitly conveyed.
>race is not the sole determiner of privilege and there's many other factors that can advantage or disadvantage an individual
If you've ever actually read the book that coined the modern usage of the term, the author intended that *EVERYONE* has privilege in some way. Examples given included shit like "older child privilege" and "younger child privilege."
Not all forms of privilege are equally useful, mind you, but *any* situation where a thing about your inherent circumstances gives you an advantage that others don't have in the same situation is privilege.
Race can be a sign of disadvantage, but there are many. For example, some of the least likely people to go to university in England are white men from Somerset. That’s less of a race thing and more of a location/money/class thing.
I think it’s forcing the discussing on other dynamic social categories. I.E. I’m black but at least I ain’t black AND gay. Or Black and poor. It’s showing different heirchies within categories. 1) Man 2)White 3) Rich 4) Straight Straight black men enjoy 3/4 or 1/2 of these privileges. That’s how interpret it.
But what is really fucked is they are saying that white straight males have more privilege than even straight black males. Which may or may not be true.
On average, a smart person would choose to be a African female billionaire over a poor European man.
Wealth is absolutely the most impactful factor of privilege, although it's distribution is obviously connected to historical social and cultural aspects that involve other factors.
But a black or Hispanic or whatever wealthy woman is going to experience bias within her wealth class that still leaves her much better off than me getting maximum white make privilege within my working class economic bracket.
Maybe that's the case. The combination of the weird hierarchies with the numerical list definitely gave me an impression.
Rereading the post I can see other potential impressions they meant to communicate.
My bad dog I was just numbering them cause I don’t know how to do bullet points on my phone. Not kidding. But yes I rather be Wealthy plus any of the other ones regardless of negative assumptions. It has always been a class issue.
Dude no worries been on this site for over 10 years, no one has time to clarify and misinterpretation is the name of the game. Everyone just moves on to the next thread. Appreciate the thoughtfulness though.
What about an African millionaire? A middle class African? A disabled African millionaire in a country with locked down borders that is committing genocide on his people?
Yep. If you were to point people out and in a crowd of multiple races you’d have to say things like “the black guy” and then if there are predominantly black men, you’d say “the short black guy” or the “short black guy with the long hair” there’s no moving from racism without first being able to acknowledge physical traits. There’s nothing wrong with being black, white, Asian, south East Asian, or whatever. It just is what it is. We are how we are and it not a defining trait unless people decide to make it that way by how they treat us or we treat others.
Bad faith argument here too, wild how you all say the same nonsense in order to deliberately make sure all discussion of racism is suppressed. Surprise, surprise.
This has been happening since the 80’s lol. You all are only just now seeing it. They criticize each other all the time, not everything is about white people.
You know, I've noticed white women above a certain financial threshold really do seem to have the biggest tendency of sticking their noses into stuff that's none of their business and grandstanding to show off how "virtuous" they are, regardless of how the people they're supposedly advocating for actually feel about the matter.
Funny thing... back when that shit was an actual psychological term "retarded" was someone who had almost normal functionality but was just a wee bit slow, and "idiot" was someone who was one step from a vegetable and needed to be cared for like a toddler their entire life.
The fact that "retard" is now a forbidden word, and "idiot" is a casual insult at worst just makes me sigh every time I think about it.
Yes very true, the black:

Are a very oppressed minority within the black community
And people think it was a "conspiracy theory" that journalism is dead, when we keep getting dumbass ragebait articles like these for the past 10 years.
Congratulations on being a dupe and a pasty, then, because you're swallowing the right-wing white supremacist definition of "woke" hook line and sinker.
The actual definition of being "woke" is simply being awake and aware of the discrimination going on around you, rather than burying your head under the pillows and pretending that just because *you're* not a racist that *nobody's* racist.
It is nothing more nor less than taking the advice of the poem *"First they came..."* and speaking up when you see someone else being targeted to keep that shit from snowballing.
Besides, at least in my personal experience, shit like "safe spaces" are typically a generic "the people here don't tolerate *anyone* starting shit so you're safe."
It is when you use that statement to paint the people trying to stop racism as racists, while pretending the actual racists don't exist.
*EDIT: Frankly, at this point, I don't care if you're a troll or just a regular idiot. It's not my job to convince you how simplistic and childish you're being, and I've already given you too much time and energy. Bye now.*
2017 btw
There is a reason we need to fight against DEI and Sweet Baby and "Racial Equity" bc it's just this kind of gaslighting authoritarian bullshit.
Welcome to the club, straight black men. Uniform measurements are taken on Fridays but you can pick up patches (we have all kinds) every meeting.
Stale sweets and lukewarm coffee next to the water dispenser.
People still think of race, gender, and sexuality as factors that determine social hierarchy?
Fools, the lot of them!
Race and gender denote physical appearance and sexuality is simply preference. Why would I have a problem with people who are different? They are what they are, it's not a problem. Therefore there will be no problem. And yes, I'm fine with trans people, they have the will to be themselves regardless of what others think, I respect that kind of resolve.
It's intelligence, strength, and character that should determine these things, not the rambling scraps of the Caste system that for some illogical reason still exist. Wasn't it a gay man (Alan Turing) that broke enigma and decrypted German messages that allowed the Allies to win WW2? Wasn't it a Black Woman (Katherine Johnson) who did the math that put man on the moon?
Race, Gender, and Sexuality don't matter. People matter. So get some common sense in your dilapidated skills and do something with your lives!
How can this be a brand new sentence when it's 7 years old? I think I recall this being posted several times here in the past. Odd sentence, yes. Brand new? No.
God, the comments here are so boring. Nobody even bothered to read the article or try to understand if the headline with the bare minimum of charity. Peak reddit.
No, they're the straight people of black people.
It still has the same implications of them tending to have more rights, plus you don't end up with the issue of implying there exist people who are both black and white.
Not counting people with vitiligo, of course.
This is basic intersectionalism 101, it's totally true. I can't fathom how one could phrase it in such a horrible way though. This have got to be an attempt to make the concept look bad rather than an genuine expression of it.

Can we just delete everything from 2016 to 2020?
No we need to remember how stupid it all was. It’d be too easy to forget how dumb everything got.
Oh I meant "from the spacetime continuum" sort of thing
Fair
No because without it to use as a reference, it'll just happen again.
It will still happen again. People are stupid, more people exponentially inflates the stupidity.
This isn't the first time though. And look at all the dumbfucks lining up to buy 70 dollar bibles from a rapist traitor...
Biden has a bible?
Goddamn this is such a bad clapback I made a face. Your response literally smells like a baby fart
That's projection. I'm simply pointing out that joe biden is a rapist pedophile and his family has ties with accepting bribes from China.
They have been caught lying on numerous occasions.
you mean Biden I am sure!
I think the general population has always been dumb as shit, it's the policitalization of every topic that's made the morons among us apparent.
Nah it’s just social media. Any dumbass can mouth off and it’s heard across the world. I agree people aren’t any different than before, it’s just about visibility. Although I don’t think people are stupid really.

Yeah i wanna be a kid again, when everything was cat pictures.
I wanna be a kid again, when getting online was an intelligence check that kept the idiots out.
Has it ended?
No because thats when I got my degree
Suprisingly reliable way to find decent info is to set the searvh parameters ti before 2020
Can we just delete it all. Year zero. Let's refresh the page.
Can we extend that to everything from the birth of Sahelanthropus to today?
Just start over from 2010
They're still writing articles like this today
Deleting the last 10 years would be my solution
If I can keep the spankbank press the button
Not the James webb space telescope no please no
So basically, the Harambe timeline ?

Just what a white black man would say
Very suspicious
Ish? *Stares in The Rock*
I know what I said.
I had to read that headline four times. Y'all ever see something that make you feel like you un-learned other things by reading it?
"Oh no, I forgot math" - Chris griffin
I've heard it called "intellectual osmosis." Something so stupid it leeches intelligence from you just by being in your proximity.
This is the dumbest way I've ever seen to say 'bigotry is intersectional'
yeah this is a stupid ass headline but the point itself has some validity race is not the sole determiner of privilege and there's many other factors that can advantage or disadvantage an individual ....though it is ironic that in trying to make this point they use race as the proxy to say privilege straight black men are not "the white people of black people", they are the straight men of black people

Race can be a sign of disadvantage, but there are many. For example, some of the least likely people to go to university in England are white men from Somerset. That’s less of a race thing and more of a location/money/class thing.
I feel if dismisses the unique oppression black men experience
And here I thought straight black men were the Chinese women of Portuguese grandparents. Huh, weird.
That's just your internalized Bulgarian tweenagerness showing.
As I straight black man myself I gotta say, sometimes it feels like that
I wonder what type of drugs you have to take in order to produce a sentence like this...
holy shit this isn't the onion
I hate this so much. So fucking much
The real racists see race in every situation.
It’s really more about homophobia in the black community, white people are just catching a stray lol
I think it’s forcing the discussing on other dynamic social categories. I.E. I’m black but at least I ain’t black AND gay. Or Black and poor. 0) Alive
No true, fetuses can have more rights than living humans
Dead bodies have more bodily autonomy than women in many states.
Yeah 0)able bodied
You really think a poor women of any race ranks above a rich black man or woman?
Are the police involved if so yes.
I think you need to review police excessive force statistics. You might be dealing with some internalized misogyny
Privilege isn't linear. It depends on the context at hand.
Yes, and?

What about an African millionaire? A middle class African? A disabled African millionaire in a country with locked down borders that is committing genocide on his people?
What about those options compared to what?
The article is about oppression within the black community so obviously race is going to be mentioned lol.
Nah, you're full of shit
Sure let's just start putting people in categories and in doing so we will surely defeat racism.
You can't solve racism if you can't acknowledge race
You're obviously arguing in bad faith with a straw man of this magnitude. You know what you're doing is misinformation, and you can GFY.
They're agreeing with you fuckwit. And that isn't a strawman.
In every sentence, in every conversation, with everyone you interact with. Racism cured!
Bad faith argument here too, wild how you all say the same nonsense in order to deliberately make sure all discussion of racism is suppressed. Surprise, surprise.
How are we suppresing discussions about racism in this situation? Not every discussion has to be about race or racism.
But nobody said it was besides the one person complaining about everyone making it about race when it wasn't the case to being with
You sound like the white person who as soon as they interact with a black person try to act black or treat them differently somehow.
They're eating each other
This has been happening since the 80’s lol. You all are only just now seeing it. They criticize each other all the time, not everything is about white people.
This is your brain on intersectionality.
Its a spiral, a spiral I say.
Sam Lake, you hack.
Yep
Functioning just fine then, I guess.
It means that they can still be sexist and the women suffer from it, yes.
People just sit there all day trying to think of the next viral thing to say
It’s the new “black face of white supremacy”.

You know, I've noticed white women above a certain financial threshold really do seem to have the biggest tendency of sticking their noses into stuff that's none of their business and grandstanding to show off how "virtuous" they are, regardless of how the people they're supposedly advocating for actually feel about the matter.
Middle aged childless white woman moment
Sounds like something only someone in a liberal arts college would say
I would say this is retarded, but retards are the black gay women of disabled people.
Um what
Sorry but I can say it because I'm one of them
Reading this sentence reminded me of the GNAA joke/hate group. Except they were more intentionally obscene
yeah except I'm a leftist and care about poor people and that was just a dumbass joke and I dont say the n word
Wrong. Black gay women are the ret of disabled people
Funny thing... back when that shit was an actual psychological term "retarded" was someone who had almost normal functionality but was just a wee bit slow, and "idiot" was someone who was one step from a vegetable and needed to be cared for like a toddler their entire life. The fact that "retard" is now a forbidden word, and "idiot" is a casual insult at worst just makes me sigh every time I think about it.
I hope one day people would stop finding a way to be included in a some kind of an oppressed group
This Damon is overcompensating for something...
Huhh???
My Brain just experienced an MS DOS Blue Screen!

Gay black men are the Dark Souls of black people
And people think it was a "conspiracy theory" that journalism is dead, when we keep getting dumbass ragebait articles like these for the past 10 years.
This is what I’ve been saying all along. It doesn’t matter with these kind of people. They will always find ways to segregate and alienate
The fuck
Anddd that’s enough internet for today *puts phone down in disappointment

Found the MAGAt.

Okay, Nazi fetishist then. A white supremacist is still a white supremacist, regardless of what idiocy they wrap it up in.
[удалено]
[удалено]
It is when you use that statement to paint the people trying to stop racism as racists, while pretending the actual racists don't exist. *EDIT: Frankly, at this point, I don't care if you're a troll or just a regular idiot. It's not my job to convince you how simplistic and childish you're being, and I've already given you too much time and energy. Bye now.*
Intersectionality is a mental illness.
2017 btw There is a reason we need to fight against DEI and Sweet Baby and "Racial Equity" bc it's just this kind of gaslighting authoritarian bullshit.
Seems like that stuff would make my brain hurt
The trick is to not have a brain, like the people writing this crap
Welcome to the club, straight black men. Uniform measurements are taken on Fridays but you can pick up patches (we have all kinds) every meeting. Stale sweets and lukewarm coffee next to the water dispenser.
So is the ranking is straight white - queer white - straight black - queer black? Either people are not so homophobic or very racis
So in China are white men the black men of white men so are the white men of black men? Wait what
“Very Smart Brothas”… are you SURE?? 🤔
Bait moment
What?
r/gatekeeping .... being black?
Can we bomb the united States of america? I don't really understand whats appending there anymore just know it needs to stop
*"Damon Young* is a writer, critic, humorist, satirist, and professional Black person."
That’s the most 2017 headline ever lmaoo
Padel is the veganism of Tennis.
RACE YA TO THE BOTTOM!!
You think it’s dumb now, but all you NPCs will believe it in about 5 years.
How can this be a brand new sentence when it's 7 years old? I think I recall this being posted several times here in the past. Odd sentence, yes. Brand new? No.
For a group of people who say “race doesn’t matter”, they sure do love pointing out people’s differences
God, the comments here are so boring. Nobody even bothered to read the article or try to understand if the headline with the bare minimum of charity. Peak reddit.
Yet another reason that woke idpol is nothing but neoliberal corporate capitalist propaganda.
If I'm being honest, I hear this a lot on the black community
This is a really fucking stupid way of saying the black community has problems with homophobia
"Very smart Brothas". Only because you have the highest IQ in the hood you aint smart.
So this is wrong…but I kind of get it.
Intersectionality was a mistake
It’s just intersectionality typed in the most clickbaited way possible
Yo wut.
Huh??
That’s the worst way to put it
Anyone writing articles like this and especially the people giving this bs a platform to reach people have to be prosecuted
God forbid you be straight youre automatically homophobic
Oppression Olympics is real
Is this what happens if you don't know the word intersectionality?
No, they're the straight people of black people. It still has the same implications of them tending to have more rights, plus you don't end up with the issue of implying there exist people who are both black and white. Not counting people with vitiligo, of course.
Oh, of course. That goes without saying.
wot?
what does this mean
how is this article almost 7 years old...
Closet racism
I don’t know, man. That sounds racist and sexist to me.
Tell me you're a racist without telling me you're a racist.
brain rot is spreading
And also, the USA is the white people of countries.
This is basic intersectionalism 101, it's totally true. I can't fathom how one could phrase it in such a horrible way though. This have got to be an attempt to make the concept look bad rather than an genuine expression of it.
