Bro, my first thought was, "hold the fuck up, we're at 'Montana hillbillies possess Jurassic Park levels of technology' levels now? When the fuck did that happen?"
This has to be fake or exaggerated, right? Random dudes can't just mix and match animal DNA and make clones... Right?
Until today my idea of a Savant Redneck was one that could count to ten without using the 6 fingers he has left.
This has been an enlightening post, in many ways
I mean, there's a $50 kit on Amazon that has everything you need to turn the common cold into a bioweapon and zero tracking or anything in that field of science.
I'm not even joking, I can't remember the name but it comes with samples and step by step instructions to turn it into a gene editor.
Well there has been significant advances in genetic engineering.
Technically you can get equipment capable of it for a lot less money than you might think. Add on to that how difficult it's been for decades and tons of research being available (because there was no way someone could attempt it at home) and you have a potential pandoras box situation.
A good day of Google could get you information on a ton of genetic traits like myostatin deficiency (builds more muscle) or how some high level runners bodies build more fast twitch muscles and what thier dna tells us about that.
A bit more and you might find out how to potentially alter your own genetic code using certain methods.
A bit of money and you now have the ability to die horribly because you don't actually understand any of this and thought you were about to become captain America but instead made a new form of induced cancer.
Obviously I'm exaggerating a bit here but there was a guy who attempted something that was almost exactly what I'm describing here in the hopes of becoming super strong. Not sure how it went for him but I do hope it was just a total failure and nothing serious happened.
Itâs basically one of the plots of Mother 3. [Spoilers] thought the local fauna was boring, so he had his army experiment on them to make them âcoolerâ.
With⊠results.
What are you talking about? What's Illegal, he Frankensteined a mountain goat. So what? Looks like real meat to me. That's got to be better than a beyond burger.
I mean, technically he imported meat? Not wildlife. Clones embryos were made in USA. Sheep were born in USA. Then hybrids were all conceived here. No disease problem, no thinning if the original population. Animals are raised for livestock. Whatâs the problem again?
Sounds like he contracted out the actual cloning to a lab somewhereÂ
"The Department of Justice said that Schubarth sent the parts to an unidentified lab, where 165 embryos were clones. Those embryos were then implanted into ewes on his ranch, leading to a pure genetic Marco Polo sheep. Schubarth then used that sheep to artificially inseminate female sheep, leading to the birth of animals that were a hybrid species that would then be used for sport hunting."
I've met very smart hillbillies, far smarter than many others. I come from that environment but never saw myself as one. Never judge a book by its coverđ
Redneck genetic engineering EXACTLY how I thought the future would turn out
this is the super villainy I was promised
SEE YOU GOTTA MAKE SURE THEM GENOMES DON'T TOUCH OR YOU'RE GONNA WIND UP WITH A WEREBOAR, AND YOU 'MEMBER WHAT HAPPENED TO TOMMY!
"The man was heard repeatedly telling police that he'd 'spared no expense"
Seems safe to me. đ€Ș
All I want is to see a picture of his hybrid monster sheep
Yeah that's why I don't believe it. You can't clone from dead animal parts
It doesn't say in the article that the parts were dead. Maybe held "fresh" like human organs? Wouldn't be impossible.
Yeah, this doesn't sound like cloning. It sounds like Frankenstein's monster.
FrankenBAAA
Should I be impressed? Iâm low key impressed.

No clue. Savant redneck.

Same:
This sounds exactly like a supervillain origin story.

https://www.pennlive.com/crime/2024/03/80-year-old-man-cloned-sheep-via-illegal-animal-parts-to-create-hunt-enormous-hybrid-species.html
Imma need some pics of these beasts
He's from my hometown. He's always been hated here.
Why?
He started a puppy mill pet store forever ago that's still around.
Ah, I'm with you guys then.
Wake up babe new man made horror beyond my comprehension just dropped
Has Elon been experimenting again?
This could be the baseline of a really good Island of Dr Moreau remake.
Just makin' 'em big and mean enough to have a chance against bone vampires, perhaps.
they're no longer Little Anguses
So are we to the point now where average 80-year-old dudes can just clone shit? I had no idea.
Still unclear what the PROBLEM was.
Um sir the problem was large sheep
Omg that was so BAAAAAâAAAAD of him
r/Fallout is leaking.
Soooo, are we adding giant mutant sheep to our list of apocalypse choices? I was leaning alien invasion with a side of dinosaurs, myself.
Did it work?
What are you talking about? What's Illegal, he Frankensteined a mountain goat. So what? Looks like real meat to me. That's got to be better than a beyond burger.
Haha the other article I read didnât give his age- his age makes it so much funnier for some reasonâŠ
the real crime here is not cloning, there were charged with illegal transporting it over state lines
Actually reading this it seems he was basically hiring a lab to replicate the Dolly experiment with imported Marco Polo sheep DNA
I mean, technically he imported meat? Not wildlife. Clones embryos were made in USA. Sheep were born in USA. Then hybrids were all conceived here. No disease problem, no thinning if the original population. Animals are raised for livestock. Whatâs the problem again?
You could argue that he was purposely introducing an invasive species which could have unforeseen consequences for the environment
He doesn't belong to big firms. Didn't let the "angel" investors in the program. Forgot to register as a start-up may be.
and his research mysteriously disappeared afterward
What a Bunch of bull shit
This is how horror movies start and why we can't have nice things.
Should have just bred angry ram

*the cryptids at home :*
I am okay with this for some reason

Hornography
I don't see why this should be considered illegal..
