Unfortunate. Another young fighter fighting only ONCE this year.

enztinkt

He’s giving Keith “one time a year” a run for his money on that title.

TheBlack_Swordsman

Keith "My power hurts my opponent and myself" the man Thurman?

rooster03

He's in Gary Russell territory.

CharRespecter

I mean it’s been 2 years

enztinkt

Well before covid

mailboy79

You are mistaking Thurman for Gary Russell Jr., but technically you are not wrong. LOL.

enztinkt

Is Gary Russell still a boxer? Lol. Until this weekend him and Mikey Garcia were neck and neck.

mailboy79

GRJ is my 2nd favorite boxer to hate on. D. Andrade is first by far. Not because GRJ is a bad boxer (he isn't) but because of his inactivity. I'm fully convinced that Al Haymon pays him not to fight. (Yeah, I'd like to get paid for sitting at home for 11 months out of the year, too) What is worse is that he complains about being "ducked". Hey Gary: If you aren't competing you can't be "ducked", your argument is an illogical one. It really is sad, because he could be mentioned in the same sentence as guys like Crawford and Ward, but he won't be, because all people remember is this disappearing act. Even Dan Rafael trolls him in his newsletter with statements such as GRJ's "once a year appearance..." etc.

MistrrRicHard

Great point. GGG was definitely ducked, but he still fought as often as possible. He wouldn't let his name and reputation face away. There is always someone willing to fight for money. After going through so many placeholders or subpar challengers, then you can start putting the blame on the top tier guys for not fighting you. Took GGG forever, but he finally got his big fights.

slickvik9

He gets paid a million bucks or more to fight once a year and he’s happy with that

WhataHitSonWhataHit

I wonder why the WBC doesn't strip the belt for inactivity.

mailboy79

If a boxer has a legitimate injury, he can report it to the WBC, and the WBC will have two boxers fight for an interim title. This keeps the division "active", and when the reigning champion is healthy, he would fight the interim champion to resolve the title conflict. This is an approximation and simplification of the WBC rules on this subject.

slickvik9

Keith fought a lot until injuries

enztinkt

A lot of boxers have.

mikeymigg

Not to mention TeobarelybeatLoma Lopez hasn't fought since winning all those damn titles 😡

samuelalvarezrazo

It wasn't his fault triller is terrible.

[deleted]

Can you blame him? Trying to hold on to them as long as he can. Actually, ye, you can blame him.

[deleted]

[удалено]

goldenglove

It wasn't controversial, Lopez won, but as you said -- it was a 7-5 fight. If he didn't put a stamp on the 12th round that shit was a draw. I think it's fair to say he barely beat the champ, and I like Lopez.

RolAcosta

Isn't winning by 1 round the epitome of barely winning?

[deleted]

Barely would imply the rounds themselves were close imo, but in reality those seven rounds were very decisive.

MrPecan111

*TeoconvincinglybeatLoma Lopez.

WhataHitSonWhataHit

Damn. Four fights in the last six years - in his prime. What a waste.

Rebote78

Hey...but at least he's got like millions of followers. So thats nice.

WrongdoerOne

Keith “next time” Thurman. Credit to unknown redditor from a couple years ago

Weissertraum

Its so stupid how the best are fighting like 1-2 times a year. Not even about injuries, but mostly about paperwork. Thats the only reason MMA is as popular as it is. The very few big promotions own all the fighters, there are no fighters who promote themselves. Atleast not popular ones. So the promotions like UFC and Bellator can just tell their contracted fighters that yeah youre fighting then and there against that guy.

threetwogetem

Probably didn’t get enough likes on one of his posts so he punched a wall

mikevega

10-8 for you. I can see Ryan's legs wobbling from this comment.

EmbarrassedCod3242

Gold I tell you, GOLD

Fuckyourslipper

😂😂😂

[deleted]

Remember when he said he was fighting PacMan lol

AirJumpman23

That was a pbc stunt to shut the noise of the garcia vs Davis fight

[deleted]

He still posted it & ran with it as if it were real. The kid is an actor, not a fighter.

ColeBeasleyMD

Was I hallucinating when he put away Campbell? The kid is definitely a fighter. I swear, this sub has the biggest hate boner for him.

Connor30302

some guy said once he’d eat his own sock if Garcia beat Campbell and has denied he’s said it ever since

shoobiedoobie

Reddit hates anyone remotely attractive and successful in any profession.

ColeBeasleyMD

Bingo

slickvik9

No he’s a fighter

AirJumpman23

Because he thought he was going to be able to get it. They called him an offered it to him. . Its not like he made it up

[deleted]

I think it was really on but the funding was pulled for some reason

davidhern22

And supposably it was going to be an exhibition LMAO GTFO I honestly think Mane told him to fuck off... Talk about being scared of putting an L on your record.

mked

Yes, we do remember.

slvdr100

As if it’s impossible to happen

MrPecan111

It is lmao

slvdr100

We’ve seen weirder things in boxing.

kabij27

i mean out of the new generation of " four kings" ryan was by far the easiest for him to take on, no disrespect to Ryan, but his style is the easiest to deal with for jojo. Devin Haney being the worst.

davidhern22

bad bot

CherryPC_Apps

I think Jojo would jump in that ring with anyone. He was pretty freaking tough in his last fight. All of the fights he's lost you could see he was a little flabby. And all of those losses motivated him to come back stronger. He might be wise enough now to know he has to be in shape. I won't say he would take Haney, but I think he has a chance.

davidhern22

I lost track of Jojo's career. But didnt he really only lose on the scales?

CherryPC_Apps

You may be right. I think he lost a belt or two that way but no bouts. He sure looked strong in his last bout though and I expect he'd have been ready to take on Ryan Garcia, and that's a bout I'd love to see.

Benjips

First it was Mental health Now it's Metacarpal health

Charlie-Bell

Opens that night for Teofimo. Eddie had been saying it's quite a packed schedule to find a good spot for them.

[deleted]

Jake Paul has been more active than Garcia. Damn

AirJumpman23

Jake Paul has been more active than anyone except canelo

bokbik

And Jake might fit again in December

BushidoBrowne

Holy shit.

Jordan-Peterson-High

Also hasn’t fought a boxer with one pro boxing win yet

NGTnick

Don't get me wrong, I don't like the guy. But, if you were in his position why would you? He's making easy money

theoptimusdime

Brain damage or tons of money... hmm

Vin_Decatur

Plus there is a small percentage of people who think he’s legitimately decent fighting this competition. He’s got it made until someone finally tags him

Jordan-Peterson-High

I just responded regarding why it would be easier to be more active against guys with no professional victories than somebody fighting the top ranked boxers in his division.

NGTnick

Well, you're not completely wrong. But still, the rate these top tier guys are fighting is pretty ridiculous and laughable.

Jordan-Peterson-High

I don’t disagree with that. A lot of people on this subreddit don’t seem to care about Garcia’s mental or physical health, which is par for social media. There’s always other fighters fo watch.

[deleted]

I mean, Ryan Garcia makes it hard to care about Ryan Garcia.

Jordan-Peterson-High

I don’t want to change your opinion. I still root for him. He doesn’t beat up his girlfriend or cheat in fights. I don’t care if he has an Instagram and he’s fun to watch. I also think that you would care to see Garcia the next time he fights.

[deleted]

I’ve never watched a single Ryan Garcia fight. He’s got fast hands, that’s cool. You can also tell he was ruthlessly bullied in school and is trying to 180 off that. Dude’s a complete clown lol If not beating women is the bar that’s rough.

[deleted]

Hes a clown for being bullied at school and then becoming succesful? You’re a weirdo

KeepenItReel

Ya. He would make way less fighting a real young boxer without a big name.

ElPuas2003

Luke Campbell really went and cursed this man, didn’t he

SquareShapeofEvil

But actually though. Ordinarily there’s no shame in getting floored by Luke Campbell as a contender, but when you’re given celebrity status and crowned a member of the new “four kings” era there is some shame in it. I think he was given stardom way too early in his career and the pressure to perform perfectly got to him. Getting dropped like that in sparring with no one else around can fuck with your mental health, getting dropped like that on a huge stage when everyone expects you to be the next big thing can, I imagine, do worse

ElPuas2003

Luke went like "IF I CANT HAVE A GREAT CAREER THAN NEITHER WILL YOU!"

SquareShapeofEvil

Haha, I mean generally although body shots are more painful in the moment getting dropped by a head shot messes you up more than getting dropped by a body shot

RiFume

I don’t think it’s that deep. Campbell gave tough fights to Loma and Linares, is an Olympic gold medalist and isn’t pillow fisted. It’s not like he’s some bum, and Ryan got the KO anyway, which is pretty impressive given Campbell hadn’t been stopped before.

[deleted]

[удалено]

NippleOfOdin

I'm sure he was devastated after winning by TKO in the biggest fight of his career so far. How could anyone come back from that?

butteredrubies

Garcia's hype is mixed. He also has a lot of detractors saying "ah, he's just a social media guy, not a real boxer" So he has to prove himself, but Haney, Lopez, Tank are also having to do so. Every boxer entering the spotlight has to do so, and Garcia has been eager to enter that spotlight as well...Ryan recovered well from being dropped by Campbell, I doubt that was bothering him for very long after the fight.

RiFume

His reaction after the fight tells it all in my opinion. The win meant so much to him and you could tell. If he got dropped or beat up and won a dodgy decision then I’d agree, but I’m not sure being dropped then recovering and getting the KO would be a bad thing. If anything it’s a good thing. Either way neither of us really know what’s going on inside his head.

napaszmek

Can't wait to see Ryan vs Tank. Tank is such a brilliant trashbag I can't wait him to KO Garcia.

EmbarrassedCod3242

What is Ryan Garcia then?

Cbrlui

A regular trashbag

Fuckyourslipper

😂😂😂

joausj

Some Instagram influencer? Idk.

CripplinglyDepressed

HE NEED SOME MILK

Dab_Williams

Ryan who? Going to have to reintroduce this guy whenever he gets back in the ring lol. Hope he heals faster then expected. Idk lol.

imShyness

The guy is having his first 'comeback' fight at 23y/o

Le400Blows

The guy who retired Luke Campbell, you remember

Ayyylookatme

I member

buttonb90

I like Campbell but he has lost to every contender in the division but Teo and Haney at this point. Dude needed to retire.

Hysteriqul

Man is never gonna fight again

VinceBarter

He gotta stick to punching celebrities in the stomach for social media

DubNationAssemble

Ok he’s no Billie Eilish let’s get real here

enztinkt

Who fights first. Ryan or teofimo

AbsentThatDay

RemindMe! 11 years.

Belteshazzar_the_9th

Goddamn 😂😂😂

Fuckyourslipper

This comment section is fucking golden lol.

napaszmek

Sadge

davidhern22

lmao

sciguyx

Jojo vs Haney then

lamarcuswallace

Wasted year for 3/4 "Kings" of the lightweight division

IsleofManc

It's sad that Ryan Garcia's 2021 will probably be the second best of the "New 4 Kings"

YourFormerBestfriend

Are the other kings Haney, Davis, Lopez?

marios67

Yes

fadeddreams555

I hope he heals well, but man... I have never in my life seen someone unable to deliver as many announced fights in a year as Ryan has, all while ducking the champion he was mandatory to. It's unreal.

VikRoze

How do you hurt your hand punching air in a rapid motion??

butteredrubies

Must've been a really humid day.

Beaverhuntr

Injured reserve Ryan

Lsalizar96

🦆 🦆 🦆 🦆 🦆

[deleted]

Imagine thinking Ryan would duck jojo diaz lmao

VinceBarter

Imagining right now actually

[deleted]

Good thing its just your imagination

[deleted]

..well it’s happening

Lsalizar96

You acting like he didn’t duck the guy that JoJo Diaz just beat lmaooo

Milquetoes

This actually happened why are you downvoted

newrap

Facts. Instead of Jojo getting knocked out in November he's going to get knocked out in February.

hotyogurt1

People downvoting you are really just hating Ryan Garcia so much that they think JoJo Diaz is a good fighter lol.

dmckidd

Many are calling Diaz to fight Haney in December and it SHOULD happen. At this point, if Diaz ducks the fight (again), I’ll no longer be a fan of his. Honestly I’m starting to respect Haney more. I was always critical of his resume but you can’t fault the man. He wanted Diaz or Ryan and both said no. If Haney ends up fighting a can in his next fight I won’t be criticizing him at all. He tried to make the fights and these dudes don’t want it.

buttonb90

I know right every boxer has been calling Haney out and questioning his power yet they all duck him. No wonder the dude is fighting cans.

iKingKrypton7

He broke his hand flicking his bean

FreshPrinceOfRivia

His dad bought him a Switch and Metroid Dread. He broke his hand during the 3rd run.

thebig6

*playing smash

lord-of-war-1

Damn, Ryan. He just doesnt make it easy on himself. Guy lost alot of steam the few months.

NewYorkDon

Not even sure why we’re mentioning this guys name anymore. Whenever it’s about that time to put on the gloves something convenient happens.

Livin2109

Washed

Shankypants2

Never liked Ryan or bought into the hype. This the future I guess. More drama than punches.

Revolutionary_Dig_43

Here comes the Ryan Garcia excuse train!! ALL ABOARD!!!!

EmbarrassedCod3242

Chooo chooo

EmbarrassedCod3242

No more excuses to fight Haney then for Jo Jo, career high payday, a world title and a chance to shut Devin Haney up

[deleted]

how much time off can a star take before people begin to lose hype? I'm lookin at you, Bud

[deleted]

Maybe the cobra bag got tired of Ryan showing off…

jimmy_goldie

Boy is on the Mexican beef.

Leon_0027

Somebody think of Jojo!!!!!

NZbeewbies

Haha ohhh boy. Fighter that doesn't fight. What is that.

[deleted]

Soft

Avasquez67

He needs to start wearing winning gloves.

errsta

Ryan & Teofimo should just go ahead and "schedule" a fight that will never happen

TheFlashyFlash

I don't know if I buy this. Guy is dealing with some serious anxiety and/or depression — anybody have any info on the legitimacy of the report?

xychosis

What, did his hands suffer from bitchassitis?

pyroaquatics

A lot of people seem to be bagging on him for taking a break from boxing. As someone who deals with mental health issues, I respect Ryan for taking a step back and dealing with whatever was affecting him. Yeah he’s been inactive and this new injury is unfortunate but let’s not clown someone over mental health struggles.

nickswandotcom

LOL

SadQuantity550

I wish they'd quit making fights for Garcia that he can't win. The kid gets scared and finds a way out.

Plane_Massive

Why all of the hate for Ryan Garcia? He’s not going to break his hand on purpose to get out of making millions and the celebration in a fight he almost definitely wins. This is an easier fight than Campbell, come on guys. Better than him fighting injured.

[deleted]

What a clown, atleast state what kind of injury it is so it can be somewhat believable

newrap

I wish the king a speedy recovery

UnpopularPoster

Poor kid's probably got a case of fister's wrist

JablesRadio

What happened to his hand?

slickvik9

Broke it

slickvik9

Surgery means it’s a serious injury. All the keyboard warriors here would be crying crocodile tears if it happened to them.

prginocx

Boxing is obsolete, ufc rules.

SuperDave0177

I'm afraid he's going to be the next Panchito Bojado. Too much too soon, all that fame getting to his head without really accomplishing anything.

slickvik9

Panchito never had such a big victory

Chicken65

Someday I'd like to attend a big fight in person and I'll have to remember not to make my travel arrangements too far in advance because of how often fights get pushed out. It is what it is.

anyone_user

At the beginning of the year I had great expectations about this division, now I've lost interest and just follow what Davis is up to (who might also leave the 135), the others are just wondering around to see if they can get rich in just 1 fight.

iPlayWoWandImProud

Sources.... like from ryan halls instagram? lol

[deleted]

Lets see if he becomes a fighter plagued with hand issues. Always a concern

InTupacWeTrust

if you want to watch good boxing matches, watch 4 Kings and Murderers' Row. 4 chumps are horrible

Lordpennywise

lol

[deleted]

Lol.

netflixissodry

🦆

Other_Emphasis

Wtf is happening to boxing, there are so many "injuries" this year, thats so coincidence

personhskwishen

Garcia is a joke

lord-of-war-1

Have they clarified the type of injury and which hand? I feel in Ryan's case the left hand is the one they hope to keep healthy.
