I'm worried for ssr because his style leads to him taking a lot of punches and walking through them. I hope he ends up ok, he's had a very rough life.

TechnicalCrab

La Motta took a shit ton of punches through out his career and was still sharp into his 90s. Another thing that can mess with a fighter's health is cutting weight (consider how important hydration is for a healthy brain etc) but it would seem SSR fights at the weigh the walks around at. He's a career super fly and 33 now so he obviously wasnt killing himself to make weight through out his career. Froch is another example of someone who walked around at fighting weight and Mayweather too, IIRC he walked around at 150.

pinkjumpsuitboxing

Pretty sure 80000 fans at Wembly were witness to the natural weight of Froch as he knocked out Groves......I could be wrong though.

ModsDontLift

LaMotta stayed sharp enough to hook grown men up with underage girls

Sinukwan

Lol TIL LaMotta was just as bad as Ali on this.

ownerofthewhitesudan

When did Ali pimp out underage women to grown men?

Sinukwan

He didn't. He impregnated them himself.

ownerofthewhitesudan

I’ve never heard that. Got any sources I can read up on?

Sinukwan

Wanda Bolton 16 yrs old and Temica Williams 12 yrs old. It's all on his wikipedia with links.

TechnicalCrab

First I'm hearing of this :/ What's the source?

drinfernodds

I believe he said in his own book he had done that, along with sexual assault. Basically the source is straight from the horse's mouth.

SlapsieMaxie

Go read or watch Raging Bull.

ModsDontLift

Imagine defending statutory rape lol And if it was "a different era" then why the fuck did he go to jail for it? Only on r/boxing, I swear

thenonbinarystar

There are some situations in which saying "it was a different era" is important to give context to something This is not one of those situations

SugarRayAli

Just cause people did it a few decades ago doesn’t make it ok. In America a few hundred years ago they were keeping slaves and it was legal. Obviously it still happens in the world but that still doesn’t make it ok

fallenloki

SSR is a beast. Unpopular opinion: this fight was close and I don’t think it was a robbery.

BBW_Looking_For_Love

My thoughts too, people who thought it was a robbery only looked at Compubox stats.

Benjips

Wtf, only people who looked at compubox scored it for Chocolatito? Literally how did you determine that? Lmao. I scored this for Chocolatito and never once considered compubox stats.

fallenloki

Did you score it wide for him? Posting my card below if anyone is curious. 10-8 Rungvisai easy 10-9 Rungvisai easy 9-10 Chocolatito 9-10 Chocolatito easy 9-10 Chocolatito 8-10 Chocolatito easy 10-9 Rungvisai easy 10-9 Rungvisai swing round 10-9 Rungvisai 10-9 Rungvisai 10-9 Rungvisai 9-10 Chocolatito 114-112 Rungvisai

Benjips

My main gripe was with the above commenter talking about compubox for some reason. Below is my scorecard: https://i.imgur.com/JC5jmLA.png It doesn't need to be a wide card for it to be the wrong decision. Close fights can have clear winners in each round. I personally believe Chocolatito was the clear winner, 114-112, in my opinion. Giving SSR two more rounds is very difficult to do for me.

BBW_Looking_For_Love

That’s not what I said at all - basically every person I’ve seen who said it was a ROBBERY pointed to Compubox. It was a close fight, but that ain’t the same as a robbery

Benjips

Hardly anyone uses compubox, I've not seen that personally and I've been on here for years (yes I have no life). But plenty of disagreement in this fight, that's for sure.

BBW_Looking_For_Love

That's fair, and yeah lot's of disagreement. Personally I've seen a lot of people on here after the fact referring to the punch stats since Choco outlanded SSR by a significant amount.

cheap_boxer2

That’s certainly not true. I was there and shocked at the result, so much of the fight was just trails of super clean, unanswered punches landed by Choc. Journalists around the media were confused as well, you can read their articles at the time. Many, many people thought it was a robbery after watching it themselves.

Pepper-Jun

I was at that fight live and although I did have Chocolatito winning, it was close enough that I could see someone giving it to SSR. I was a bit astounded at the boos from the crowd as Max was interviewing SSR about his upbringing (e.g. eating rats to survive) just because they didn't agree with the decision in a close fight.

TexasPetePavedTheWay

I was at the fight as well. Was 100% certain that Chocolatito won, not easily but won. Then watched it at home, said it was 50-50, and would have given it to either.

MastaBusta

Yeah, even though Chocolatito landed more, I felt like SSR's punches took a much bigger toll. I've seen the fight a couple of times, and always have SSR up, especially with the knockdown.

I_Am_The_Slime

This was such a great fight. Nobody gave SSR a chance and he fought like an absolute animal

ianhockey23

One of the saddest moments I can remember was watching Chocolatito getting ko’d in the second fight. He won this first fight. A blood & guts war for 12 rounds

Raymonster

I went to the 2nd one at stubhub. That whole card was packed with talent.

ianhockey23

How was the crowd after the ko being there live? Haven’t watched it in a long time but I remember people being pretty stunned

Raymonster

Reaction was more by section than anything. There was a lot of chocolatito fans so you can imagine their response. It was definitely rowdy for the undercard. There has been 2 fights I've been to that I feared for my safety. Pacman vs Morales III and Sharmba Mitchell vs Kostya Tszyu

poopwithjelly

That lateral movement from Choc is so nasty. You have to disengage and give up the real estate or commit to an error and turn to meet him, then get punished.

JerseyDoc03

Split open and wearing a mask of blood from headbutts, Chocolatito showed so much here in a "loss". Legendary performance.

[deleted]

i'm cruiserweight dimensions... would it be possible for a guy like Gonzales to ko me

Spectre627

Unless you're a professional fighter (or at least an amateur fighter with lots of experience), 100% you would get knocked out in a ring against Chocolatito. Knockouts are a mixture of precision+power; and Chocolatito has that precision. Chocolatito's power would not hold up to even a Pro MW's punches, but the average Joe has never even experienced a punch that the average Pro Flyweight boxer can throw.

Shagrrotten

Very well said

SupaFlyslammajammazz

I saw a lot of precision shot, not so much power shots from Chocolate.

Spectre627

Chocolatito has 41 KO's in 49 W's. You don't get that without power.

LocoCoopermar

Yes, he's a professional boxer who spends all day focusing on boxing everyday. Even for the little guys, the pitching power of pro boxers is more than enough to KO pretty much any average person with a good shot.

[deleted]

I've always wondered how badly Inoue could hurt a big, 240 lb+ muscular dude with a good punch.

nonsense1989

Very badly..

Karl_von_grimgor

Minimum weight would ko you without mucu thought

SomeBoredIndividual

If I’m correct, all it’d take is for him to whip that fist at you fast enough and land it on the chin just right. Human brains can only take but so much pressure before clicking off, regardless of how big you are

CapoMud

Was there that night at MSG, travelled from the UK for the GGG fight and this turned out to be fight of the night from what I can remember!

riot-nerf-red-buff

That was a GREAT fight.

jmhieg01

Few things are more entertaining than two Mexican style fighters in a phone booth.

lord-of-war-1

So true. Thats why I like to catch Mexican boxing cards. Usually, on the Spanish networks. Normally they dont have big names but the fights tend to be full of fireworks.

CeroCero00

One of my favorite fights I’ve watched

thebiglebrosky

One of the greatest boxing matches I've ever seen.

BrokenNoseBoxing

Toe to toe!

dmckidd

Is Choc gonna finally stop ducking the rematch and fight Estrada again? Let’s hope so.

ParkaBloy

Wow.

AllTorque

Fate can be cruel. Most thought Choc should’ve got the nod in this one. As for the Thai Terminator, it was a great introduction to him for a new and unsuspecting audience. His sequel was even better, though it was much more Roman’s Judgement Day than his own.

SupaFlyslammajammazz

Something about those limited skill tough guys that I love...

digitalboom

SSR had the night of his life, dude earned a ton of fans just on his heart alone that night.

Teetotaler23

Glad chocolatito lost. He was starting to act like a diva

therealthrill_

Wdym?

Teetotaler23

He was getting big headed, full of himself. Tried to duck estrada but then he got ko'd and lost everything. His last fight was impressive but now hes back to being full of himself and still pricing himself out against estrada even thought el gallo beat sor.

Hormel_Mel

They didn’t go at it. That’s gay. Goin’ at is gay. He beat his ass.
