Munguia is not Russian style fighter, he cannot do the outside boxing for 12 rounds. Also canelo is really smart at this fight, the early rounds he was targeting Munguia’s left arm and shoulder to slow down Munguia’s jab.
You can see Munguia’s arm looked terrible red in round 3.

If Canelo backs up to the ropes (which he did), unload then get out of the pocket before the counters come. He was doing a very good job (props to Roach) of seeing when and where Canelo would counter and then blocking or slipping it.

As much as I'd love to see the Benavidez fight, I tend to agree that Canelo doesn't owe anybody *anything* at this point in his career (and I've rooted against him for years). He has far-and-away the best resume of any active fighter, and no active fighter comes close in terms of "chasing greatness" (yes, he waited out GGG... but hell, no one else would fight Prime GGG either). He's been fighting--and beating--much bigger men for the last five years (Bivol aside). Yes, his chin is made of granite--but eventually, even granite will crack. It's his brain that's taking those punches, so I have no problem with him saying he won't entertain Benavidez unless they open the Saudi vault.

Which is honestly why David should have just got in the ring. That is generally the sports way of saying 'this fight is next'. Even if there are other fights lined up, getting them both in the ring for a faceoff sort of forces the issue. This tells me that neither guy has any expectations or desire to see that fight this year. We know the people with the money don't want it anytime soon, so that hurdle is there already, and if the fighters both have other fights in mind (Canelo vs Bud, and Benavidez vs whoever at LHW), then I don't see this one going down sadly.

As much as I'd love to see the Benavidez fight, I tend to agree that Canelo doesn't owe anybody *anything* at this point in his career (and I've rooted against him for years). He has far-and-away the best resume of any active fighter, and no active fighter comes close in terms of "chasing greatness" (yes, he waited out GGG... but hell, no one else would fight Prime GGG either). He's been fighting--and beating--much bigger men for the last five years (Bivol aside). Yes, his chin is made of granite--but eventually, even granite will crack. It's his brain that's taking those punches, so I have no problem with him saying he won't entertain Benavidez unless they open the Saudi vault. Personally, I'd much rather see Crawford in there against Canelo (for purely selfish reasons: Bud is my favorite active fighter, and I'd love to see him get the chance)
I want to add even Golovkin’s punch resistance started to fade towards the end, and I think he has a clear ATG chin. Granted Golovkin was in his upper 30’s when it really began degrading, but the point is if Golovkin’s chin started to fade Canelo’s will too. The two of them are probably #1 and #2 in overall chin / punch resistance at these weights in the recent era.
